HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Champs crowned in boys and girls track, wrestling, gymnastics

While the boys and girls basketball and ice hockey tournaments are just about ready to kick off, other winter sports are winding down. On Saturday, the MIAA staged the indoor track and field Meet of Champions at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, along with the All-State wrestling championships and the girls gymnastics sectional meets.

Local athletes starred at each of those events, including a couple of Pembroke track athletes who won individual titles.

Here's a look at who did what:

GIRLS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Titans boast lone individual champ: Pembroke's Sarah Claflin was the sole South Shore individual champion at the All-State meet, winning the 55-meter title in 7.12 seconds. She also ran on the fourth-place 4x200m relay (1:45.98) along with Catrena Ghattas, Katie Gibbons and Caroline Minogue. Ghattas also tied for 15th in the high jump, clearing 5 feet.

Plymouth North's Macey Shriner was runner-up in the 1,000m, breaking her own school record in 2:55.55.

Quincy/North Quincy's 4x800m relay was second (9:41.62) with Salma Boukhtam (Q), Aluna Coogan-Coyne (NQ), Maddie McGillicuddy (NQ) and Hannah Moriarty (NQ). Boukhtam was 10th in the 600m (1:39.76), and Coogan-Coyne was 13th in the mile (5:15.28).

Weymouth's Gracie Richard was fourth in the 1,000m (2:59.62) and also ran on the Wildcats' sixth-place 4x800m relay (9:48.00) with Isabella Galusha, Meghan Connolly and Kate Carnes.

Also finishing fourth were Hingham's Kelsey Tarby in the 600m (school-record 1:36.75) and Oliver Ames' Katie Sobieraj in the mile (5:04.51). Tarby also ran on Hingham's fourth-place 4x400m relay (4:06.63) with Margaret Lowther, Clare Lowther and Sarah Kelly. Sobieraj also starred in a relay, anchoring OA's third-place 4x800m quartet (9:44.49) with Jenna Gilman, Molly Capece and Taegan Hodges. Hodges also finished 13th in the 1,000m (3:04.22).

Middleboro's Isabel Wheeler was fifth in the 55m hurdles (:8.65) and eighth in the long jump (17-4.25).

Stoughton's Shayla Ford was fifth in the 300m (:40.60), and teammate Simarah McPherson was eighth in the shot put (35-6.5).

West Bridgewater's Aly Bassett was sixth in the 55m hurdles (:8.67), and teammate Ella Dunbury was 10th in the 2-mile (11:23.86).

Marshfield's Ava LoVuolo was eighth in the 1,000m (3:02.40), and teammate Eleanor Angeles-Whitfield was ninth in the 2-mile (school-record 11:22.86). The two also ran on the Rams' 10th-place 4x800m relay (9:54.67) with Ava Brunswick and Charlotte Perreault. Brunswick also finished 16th in the 1,000m (3:06.09).

Milton's Katie O'Toole was 10th in the mile (5:13.02) and ran on the Wildcats' fifth-place 4x800m relay (9:44.77) with Marilyn Roche, Gretel Schewe and Mia Jilani.

Braintree's Bridget Lee was 11th in the long jump (16-11.75) and ran on the Wamps' fourth-place 4x800m relay (school-record 9:44.73) with Tessa Marston, Catherine McPhee and Caitlyn Chang.

Hanover's Hannah Geary was 12th in the 1,000m (3:04.00), Hingham's Emma Mills was 12th in the 55m hurdles (:8.77), and Archbishop Williams' Maddie Hussey was 15th in the mile (5:24.79).

For Bridgewater-Raynham, Sydney O'Donnell was 14th in the 1,000m (school-record 3:04.27) and Nethica Auguste was 16th in the long jump (16-4.75). O'Donnell and Auguste also ran on the Trojans' 14th-place 4x400m relay (4:11.27) with Brianna Reid and Emily Keefe.

BOYS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Titans boast lone individual champ: Pembroke's Andrew Gleason was the sole South Shore individual champ at the All-State meet, winning the 55 meters in 6.45 seconds. He also ran on the sixth-place 4x200m relay (1:32.73) with Jack Tosone, Gabe Lamar and Luke Lamar.

Carver's Camren Allain was second in the high jump, clearing 6-4. Stoughton's Matt Singletary tied for fourth (6-2), and Brockton's Lucas Andrade was sixth (6-2).

BC High's Chris Larnard was fourth in the mile (4:19.42), Plymouth North's Kevin Riley was fourth in the 600m (1:23.63), and Weymouth's Brandon Riley was fourth in the long jump (21-7.5) as well as 10th in the 55m (:6.64).

For Middleboro, Charles Montross was sixth in the 55m hurdles (:7.92), and Nathan Donahue was sixth in the long jump (21-3.5).

For Oliver Ames, Ryan Sarney was sixth in the 2-mile (9:17.34), and Aidan Dupill (4:20.60) and Brendan Thomas (4:20.66) finished 7-8 in the mile. Those three combined with Alexander Pierce to place 11th in the 4x800m relay (8:17.32).

Brockton's Christensen Paul was seventh in the long jump (21-2), and Stoughton's Alex Huynh was eighth (21-1). Southeastern's Joseph Cook placed eighth in the 55m hurdles (:8.03), and Plymouth North's Mark Sten was ninth in the 300m (:36.63).

Plymouth North's Dylan Brilliant was 11th in the mile (4:28.18), followed by BC High's High Licklider in 13th (4:29.81) and Weymouth's David Manfredi in 15th (4:30.09).

Norwell's Connor Reidy was 12th in the 1,000m (2:39.40) and ran on the ninth-place 4x400m relay (3:32.31) with Sam Pesko, Caleb White and Griffin Murphy. Hingham was 10th in the 4x400m with Jack Murtagh, Cole Sampson, Griffin Coppola and Bryce Botelho clocking in at 3:32.74.

Bridgewater-Raynham's Kauan Bento was 12th in the 55m (:6.65), and Duxbury's Brody McGrail was 14th (:6.66). Also for Duxbury, Luke Weiler was 16th in the 600m (1:26.66), Gavin Thomas was 16th in the 300m (:35.98), and the Dragons' 4x200m relay team was 16th in 1:34.26.

BOYS WRESTLING

Bridgewater-Raynham 5th: Led by 195-pound individual champion Nathan Leach, the Trojans finished fifth in team scoring at the two-day All-State championships at Reading Memorial High. B-R scored 80 points. St. John's Prep won the team crown with 117.5, followed by Minnechaug (96), Milford (88) and Haverhill (86). Leach captured the 195-pound title with a 4-3 victory over Gloucester's Michael Toppan in the final.

The South Shore's other individual champ was Braintree's Drew McGourty, who claimed the 152-pound crown with a major decision, 18-7, over Brock Desmarais of Tyngsboro/Dracut in the final.

Two other locals were runners-up. Brockton's Brandon Winn lost the 120-pound final, 11-4, to Shawsheen's Brayton Carbone, and Carver's Joseph Tully lost a major decision, 18-9, to Prep's Rawson Iwanicki.

Whitman-Hanson's Charlie Lussier (106) and Milton's Mason Pellegri (182) each finished third. Lussier defeated Haverhill's Mike Morris, 4-2, in his final, while Pellegri blanked Beverly's Gino Sicari, 5-0.

Brent von Magnus (Bridgewater-Raynham) and Anthony Mann (Hanover) each placed fourth. Von Magnus lost, 4-2, to Miles Darling (Essex Tech/Masco) in the 120-pound third-place match. Mann was pinned in 4:40 by Luke Connolly (Northeast Metro Tech/Bishop Fenwick) in the 145-pound third-place match.

Bridgewater-Raynham's Myles Beckett finished fifth at 220 pounds, beating Plymouth South's Heath McGilvray, 6-2. B-R's Chris Hogg was sixth at 182.

GIRLS WRESTLING

Silver Lake runner-up: The Lakers, led by two individual champs, finished second at the two-day All-State championships at Reading Memorial High. Agawam won the team crown with 70 points, followed by Silver Lake (56), Central Catholic (50) and Lowell (41). Silver Lake's Sydney Diauto won the 106-pound title by pinning Duxbury's Quinn Edwards in 1:31. Teammate Lindsay Lewis claimed the 160-pound crown with a pin of Agawam's Olivia Agudelo in 1:11.

The other local champ was Scituate's Sara McLaughlin, who won the 111-pound title by pinning Hingham's Mia Dineen in 1:17. It's McLaughlin's second straight state title; she also was voted Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.

Middleboro's Ayla Goldman was runner-up at 147, losing a 6-5 decision to Central Catholic's Ashley Dehney in the final.

Bridgewater-Raynham's Kennedie Davis won the third-place match at 106 with a 7-1 decision over Leominster's Abby Muller.

Stoughton's Angelina Barry was fourth at 111; she was pinned in 1:20 by Barnstable's Sophia Simonelli.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS

Trojans finish on top: The Bridgewater-Raynham/West Bridgewater co-op team won the South Sectional team championship at Algonquin High. It's a first for the program, although the team has won a state title.

Marshfield finished fifth with a score 136.775, missing out on a spot at the state championship by 0.4 points.

BOYS HOCKEY

Milton Academy 5, Noble and Greenough 1: Brendan Maher scored twice and Madden Powers added a pair of assists as the Mustangs (17-4-5) won their regular-season finale to finish as ISL co-champs. Milton Academy expects to receive a bid to the top-tier Stuart-Corkery New England prep-school tournament when the brackets are announced on Sunday.
