HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Concannon hat trick lifts Whitman-Hanson boys lacrosse over Abington

Sophomore midfielder Joe Concannon had a hat trick Friday to lead the Whitman-Hanson boys lacrosse team to an 11-5 win over Abington.

The Panthers (3-9) got two goals and an assist from each of their three starting attackmen – Chris Ross, Collin Murphy and Connor McCarthy.

Midfielder Luke Tropeano and defender Bubby Hunter also scored. Sophomore Jeff Gomes won 10 of 16 faceoffs, and goalie Dave MacNeil made 10 saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

Archbishop Williams 17, Rockland 14: Nate Herman and Jake Cara-Donna each had hat tricks, and Nick Buccella (2 goals, 3 assists), Mike Batchelder (2 goals, 2 assists), Zac McClay (2 goals, 2 assists), Aiden Walsh (2 goals, assist), Barry Page (goal, 3 assists), Sean Logan (goal, assist) and Jackson McClay (goal) also starred offensively. Goaltender Will Lacey made 15 saves. Rockland was led by Lucas Leander (7 goals, 4 assists), Justin Cronin (4 goals, 2 assists) and Tyler Boehner (3 goals, 2 assists).

Oliver Ames 11, Middleboro 6: Ben Reardon (3 goals, 4 assists) and Wyatt Fritchman (4 goals) led OA. Ryan Jaco scored twice, goalie Noah Isleib made 13 saves, and defenders Kyle Szumylo, Cam Tower and Adams Becerra had strong games.

Scituate 12, Cohasset 5: The Sailors improved to 10-1.

Blue Hills 15, Cape Tech 3: The Warriors (5-5) won at home.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Norwell 14, Braintree 4: Charlise Cox (3 goals, 5 draw controls) led the Clippers (6-4) to a non-league win. Jessica Lee, Danielle Cox, Mika Johnson and Jane Smith each scored twice, and Charlotte Pithie made 7 saves.

Archbishop Williams 16, Rockland 1: Karaline O'Toole of Quincy had 5 goals and 5 assists for the Bishops. Avery Valicenti (Weymouth) added 4 goals and an assist, and Caroline Batchelder (Braintree) chipped in 2 goals and 2 assists.

Plymouth North 13, Barnstable 4: Annika Pyy scored 6 goals, and Ava Whitting and Addie Pyy each added hat tricks for the Blue Eagles.

Ursuline Academy 16, Cardinal Spellman 9: Kathryn Lysko scored her 100th career goal for the Cardinals in the loss.

BASEBALL

Milton 11, Newton North 1: Brian Foley (4-0) earned the win, striking out 9 over 5 innings, for the Wildcats (10-2). Owen McHugh (3 strikeouts) and Ben Catudal finished up with an inning each out of the bullpen. Shea Donovan (2-for-3, RBI), Charlie Walker (home run, 2 RBI) and Kimmy Fallon (hit, 3 runs) starred at the plate.

Hanover 2, Hingham 1: Jack Fish doubled home Wes Bryan in the bottom of the sixth with the go-ahead run for the Hawks (6-4). Winning pitcher Gabe Knudsen (3-1) threw a complete-game 5-hitter with 5 strikeouts, and Jake Pelish had 2 hits. For Hingham, sophomore Chris Volpe (6 innings, 6 hits, 1 earned run, 5 strikeouts) pitched well in defeat, and sophomore Jeremy Aylward had 2 hits, an RBI and 2 steals.

Scituate 15, Duxbury 7: Michael Sheskey was 2-for-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBI to lead the Sailors (8-3, 7-1 Patriot League). Connor Stone (home run) and Jordan Barthel (2-for-4, double, 2 runs) each drove in 3 runs as well, and Grayden Harris scored three times.

Plymouth North 6, Quincy 0: The Blue Eagles picked up their sixth victory in a row as Francis Comeau tossed a one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts while not yielding a walk.

Plymouth South 4, Whitman-Hanson 0: Tommy Sullivan pitched a 1-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts for South (9-2, 8-0 Patriot League). He also was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI. Matt Cassidy (3-for-4, double, RBI) and Brycen Tetler (1-for-2, RBI) also contributed.

Abington 7, Cardinal Spellman 2: Michael Pineau drove in 3 runs for the Green Wave (9-2). Winning pitcher Stephen Madden struck out 9 over 5⅔ innings.

Canton 4, Attleboro 1: Hayden Rose threw a complete-game 4-hitter with 3 strikeouts and also was 2-for-3 at the plate with a 2-run home run to power the Bulldogs. Matty Lesser had a key RBI double.

Mansfield 5, Oliver Ames 4: Patrick Finnerty had 2 RBI and pitched well in relief for OA in the loss. Joe Cicchetti and Lucas Riley drove in runs.

Austin Prep 8, Archbishop Williams 1: Luke Driscoll (Whitman) was 2-for-3 in the loss for the Bishops.

Southeastern 7, Blue Hills 0: The Hawks pitching staff struck out 10 in the shutout. The offense was led by Anthony Musto (3-for-4, 3 steals, 2 runs) and Nolan Sturdevant (1-for-3, triple, 2 runs).

Silver Lake 6, North Quincy 3: The Lakers won a Patriot League game.

SOFTBALL

Hingham 9, Hanover 5: Amy Maffei drove in 3 runs, and Maddie Aylward had 2 RBI to lead the host Harborwomen (8-1) over the Hawks (7-3, 6-2 Patriot League). Abby Hanna had a 2-run double for Hanover, and Mary Kate Flynn, Abby Smith and Ava Toglia drove in single runs.

Silver Lake 14, North Quincy 2: Delaney Moquin, Quinn Slyker, Serena Downer, Emily Pimental and Riley Hynes had multiple hits for the Lakers (11-1). Moquin pitched 5 innings and picked up the win with 10 strikeouts.

Marshfield 10, Pembroke 1: Junior Sam Bongiolatti pitched a complete-game 5-hitter to lead the Rams (6-6, 5-4 Patriot League). Sophomore Haylie McPhee had 2 hits and 3 RBI. Senior Ella Staffier (2 hits) and junior Jess Morrison (3 RBI) also starred at the plate, and junior Graci Figueiredo was a defensive standout.

South Shore Tech 11, Old Colony 9: Junior Alli Traynor was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI, and freshman Hannah Dailey had a hit and an RBI for the Vikings (7-4).

Stoughton 12, Milford 0 (5 inn.): Junior Kerry Driscoll pitched a 5-inning no-hitter, striking out 3, for the Black Knights. Alyssa Edwards hit a 2-run home run in the first inning, and Kerry Driscoll (double) and Maddie Hinds each had 2 hits and an RBI. Camryn Whitman (triple), Julie Powers (double) and Melody Casna each chipped in with a hit. Sydney Menz scored 3 runs.

Mansfield 12, Oliver Ames 11: The Tigers' seventh-inning comeback fell just short. Katie Melendy was 4-for-5, with a double, an RBI and 2 runs for OA, and Maddie Homer had 3 hits and 2 RBI.

Plymouth North 11, Quincy 4: Meg Banzi and Ari Durette homered, and winning pitcher Caroline Collins struck out 10 for the Blue Eagles.

Brockton 15, Durfee 3: The Boxers evened their record at 5-5.

GIRLS TENNIS

Plymouth South 4, Whitman-Hanson 1: South (7-4) picked up points from No. 1 Kiera McLaughlin and No. 2 Emma Colonna in singles and swept the doubles with the teams of Karina Dias/Anna Quinn (No. 1) and Lexi Kneeland/Anna Lanning (No. 2). Sophomore Alyson Tobias won at third singles for W-H's lone point.

Scituate 4, Duxbury 1: Lexi Washburn (No. 2) and Sammy Roman (No. 3) won in singles, and the Sailors swept the doubles with the teams of Paige Thornton/Marli Perl (No. 1) and Grace Kane/Jane McGuiggan (No. 2).

Hingham 5, Marshfield 0: Mathilde Megard (No. 1), Katelyn Erikson (No. 2) and Simran Vaishnava (No. 3) had singles wins, and Hingham (9-0, 8-0 Patriot League) swept the doubles with the teams of Maggie O'Keeffe/Teel Bowyer (No. 1) and Catelyn Arnold/Agnes O'Reilly (No. 2).

Oliver Ames 5, Mansfield 0: Elizabeth O’Brien battled to win a third-set tiebreak at third singles for OA. Second singles player Mia Corradini played well in a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Dartmouth 5, Brockton 0: The Boxers (1-5) lost on the road.

Wellesley 5, Braintree 0: Sophomore Jolin Yang lost in a third-set tiebreaker for the Wamps.

BOYS TENNIS

Hingham 4, Hanover 1: Thomas Fabrizio and Teddy Reilly won their singles matches, and Hingham swept the doubles with the teams of Dominic Kanter/Will Baker and Liam Arnold/Riley Thompson.

Plymouth North 4, Quincy 1: The Blue Eagles won a Patriot League match.

Duxbury 5, Scituate 0: The Green Dragons won a Patriot League match.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

New Bedford 3, Quincy 0: The Presidents (7-5) lost, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22. Quincy had 22 kills, 4 blocks and 58 digs as a team.

North Quincy 3, Barnstable 0: The host Raiders (7-1) won their seventh straight match.

BOYS RUGBY

Weymouth 37, Hingham 12: Luke McDonald scored three times to lead the Wildcats (3-0).

Milton 41, Hanover 26: The Wildcats topped the Hawks.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Blue Hills sweeps: On Thursday, the Warriors (5-2) beat Bristol-Plymouth and Holbrook, each by a score of 85-51. Sophomore Rose Ferguson broke the school record in the 400 meters and the 800m; she previously had broken the triple jump mark. Junior Angela Rossini won the 2-mile, and Aydrienne Moniah-Hunter was the third-leading points scorer for the team.
