HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Duxbury High girls basketball edges Notre Dame Academy in opener

Molly Donovan scored 18 points, and freshman Lyla Peters added 13 in her varsity debut Friday night to lead the Duxbury High girls basketball team to a 53-47 road win over Notre Dame Academy in the season opener for both teams.

Molly Donovan and Amanda Donovan (11 points) each had double-digit rebounds for Duxbury, and Lucy Laviolette and Cara Cass were defensive standouts.

Freshman Ava Orlando paced NDA with 20 points and 8 assists. Senior Ava Foley added 11 points and 7 rebounds, and eighth-grader Elle Orlando chipped in with 10 points and 5 steals.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bridgewater-Raynham 48, Newton North 47: Senior Dana Possick (12 points) scored the go-ahead layup with 19 seconds remaining to lift the Trojans to a season-opening win. Sophomore Natalia Hall-Rosa scored a team-high 17 points while freshmen Brenna Woodbury (6 points) and Jenna Micciantuono (2) scored their first varsity points.

Rockland 56, Hanover 39: Julie Elie scored a game-high 27 points to power the Bulldogs to a season-opening non-league road win over the Hawks.

Brookline 62, Stoughton 28: Senior guard Jess Maddalena led Stoughton with 8 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Malden Catholic 57, Quincy 49: The Presidents lost their season opener at home.

Thayer Academy 47, Dexter Southfield 41: The Tigers (2-1) won on the road.

Plymouth North 58, Nauset 26: The Blue Eagles won their season opener at home.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hull 66, South Shore Tech 27: In their first game since the 2019-20 season, the Pirates won their opener at home. Hull, which did not field any winter sports last school year, led 38-17 at halftime. Jesse Lyons and Ashton Gabler each scored 7 points for South Shore.

Middleboro 76, Case 49: Junior Jacob Briggs (18 points, 7 rebounds) led the way for the Sachems in a season-opening win. Gianni Perea (12 points, 5 steals) (12 points) and Cam Downey (11 points, 9 rebounds) were also in double figures.

Weymouth 54, Newton South 53: Down 42-31 after three quarters, the Wildcats rallied for a road win.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Thayer Academy 5, Portsmouth Abbey 0: Christine Oar scored twice, and Morgan McGathey, Joey Brown and Kate Sullivan added goals for the visiting Tigers (3-1).
