HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: East Bridgewater's Ray McNaught tosses a no-hitter

Why did the East Bridgewater High baseball team defeat Rockland, 2-0, on Thursday?

Simple answer: Ray McNaught.

McNaught tossed a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts as he starred on the mound. That wasn't all his day included, as he drove in the winning run in the third inning on an RBI single.

His counterpart on the opposing mound, Rockland's Ian White, pitched well in defeat. He gave up 7 hits and struck out 5.

EB's other run came when Jaden Lovell plated Jake Powers on a groundout in the sixth inning,

Hingham 5, Duxbury 4: Bobby Falvey's walk-off hit plated Aidan Devlin to net the Harbormen a thrilling win. Craig Sandler tossed 5-plus innings with 5 hits, 0 walks, 2 earned runs and 6 strikeouts.

Foxboro 4, Canton 1: Zach Peters pitched 4 strong inning of relief (4 hits, 3 strikeouts, 1 run) and Sean Sullivan (1-2, RBI) played well behind the plate for the Bulldogs.

Abington 2, Mashpee 0: Aidan O'Donnell tossed a complete-game shutout for the Green Wave (8-2). Spencer Merrick had 2 doubles and an RBI, and Steve Madden plated the other run.

Avon 11, Holbrook 0: Jordan Mederios tossed a 1-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Panthers. Nate Maguire had 3 hits and 3 runs scored while Charlie Dean drove in 3 runs. Ryan Luddy stole 5 bases and scored 4 times.

Middleboro 17, Cohasset 7: The Sachems improved to 5-4 on the season.

North Attleboro 7, Oliver Ames 2: Ian Kelly pitched well in relief in the loss.

Carver 4, Norwell 0: The Crusaders picked up the South Shore League win.

Braintree 4, Wellesley 3: The Wamps (9-3) scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning, capped off by Jeff Charron's 2-run walk-off double. Jordan Gorham and Tyler Curtis combined for the win.

BC High 7, Malden Catholic 0: Ryan Kane (Bridgewater) and Ronan Donohue combined for the shutout. Adam Regan (Braintree), Cole Bohane (Hingham), Andrew Manning and Donohue drove in runs.

SOFTBALL

West Bridgewater 18, Westport 6: Amanda Jacques (3 runs) and Susana Cariere (2 runs, 2 RBI) both went 4 for 4 for the Wildcats. Lilly Martel went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI.

Carver 1, Norwell 0: Sophia Cavicchi threw a 2-hit shutout for the Crusaders. Sarah Langtry drove in the lone run with a single.

Silver Lake 11, Plymouth North 7: Sam Waters, Maddie Bryan, Delaney Moquin and Hannah Kelleher had multiple hits, and Lexi Dwyer had a key pinch-hit single in the sixth inning as the Lakers (10-1) handed North (9-1) its first loss. Caroline Peterson earned her eighth win of the season, striking out 9.

East Bridgewater 15, Rockland 2: Mia Holmes (4 strikeouts) and Maggie Schlossberg (5 strikeouts) combined for the win on the mound. Schlossberg had 2 hits, including a home run, and 3 RBI. Haley Murphy also had 2 hits, a home run and 3 RBI. Hannah Burton (3 hits, 2 RBI) and Sarah Silvia (3 RBI) also contributed.

Plymouth South 9, North Quincy 1: The Panthers won the Patriot League game.

Quincy 12, Scituate 0: The Presidents won the Patriot League game.

Malden Catholic 8, Notre Dame Academy 6: Senior captain Jules Burke highlighted a 3-run first inning by stealing home, but the Lancers rallied for the win.

Marshfield 10, Whitman-Hanson 6: Ella Staffier, Sam Bongiolatti and Emily Harper each had 3 hits, and Staffier, Hannah Blanco and Maddie Powers all drove in 2 runs for the Rams (5-6, 4-4 Patriot League). Taryn Leonard hit a home run in the loss for W-H while Lauryn Meade went 3 for 3.

North Attleboro 7, Oliver Ames 1: Katie Melendy kept North Attleboro scoreless through 6 innings, but the Red Rocketeers struck for 7 in the seventh.

Newton North 5, Milton 4: The Wildcats dropped the Bay State Conference game.

Holbrook 13, Avon 1: Taylor Dolan and Taylor Dibona combined for the win in the circle. Candace Sumner and Alyssa Slamin each scored 3 runs while Dolan and seventh-grader Haley Dennis scored twice for the undefeated Bulldogs (11-0).

Bridgewater-Raynham 10, Braintree 0 (5 inn.): Lily Welch pitched her fourth shutout in the last five games, allowing 2 hits over 5 innings with 4 strikeouts and a walk. The Trojans' offense was led by Riain Keefe (3 hits, double, 2 runs, RBI), Ashley Jacques (3 hits, run), Taylor Feist (2 hits, 2 RBI, run), Julia Shearstone (2 hits, 2 runs, RBI) and Holly Clary (2 hits, 2 runs).

BOYS LACROSSE

Marshfield 10, Quincy/North Quincy 5: Joe Manton scored all 5 goals for the Raiders, including a tally to cut the deficit to 8-5 with 9:00 remaining, but the Rams pulled away late. Riley O'Connell made 18 saves and Michael Gorman had 2 assists in the loss. Dan Kane (2 goals, 5 assists), Bryson Tubbs (3 goals) and Jake Reisman (2 goals) led the way for the Rams.

Framingham 9, Weymouth 5: Liam Reichardt stopped 23 shots in the loss.

Bishop Guertin 11, BC High 10: Patrick Maroney had a hat trick, but the Eagles at home, thanks to a disputed scoring decision in which the visitors appeared to be credited with a phantom goal.

Pembroke 10, Whitman-Hanson 7: David MacNeil stopped 12 shots in the loss while Collin Murphy had a hat trick.

Silver Lake 14, Plymouth North 3: Ben Cavicchi (assist) and Ryan Green each had 5 goals for the Lakers. McKale Cargill made 12 saves.

Hingham 12, Hanover 7: Hanover goaltender Ronan Kearney played well in defeat.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Hingham 18, Hanover 4: Sisters Kyle and Kenzie Wilson scored 4 goals apiece for the Harborwomen. Maddie Packard (3 goals), Grace Maroney (2) and Ellie Fabbro (2) also chipped in.

Marshfield 12, North Quincy 5: The Rams won the Patriot League game.

Weymouth 19, Framingham 16: Goaltender Anya Younie stopped 13 shots in the win while Cam Flaherty tallied 7 goals and 1 assist, including the 100th point of her career. Megan Doyle also had 8 point (6 goals, 2 assists) to go with 14 draw controls.

Notre Dame Academy 13, Cohasset 6: Aizza Chase made 12 saves for the Skippers.

Pembroke 16, Whitman-Hanson 6: Joli Flamos and Jackie Keenan each had 2 goals in the loss.

Scituate 20, Quincy 5: Junior Charlotte Spaulding scored 8 goals to push her past the 100-goal mark for her career as the Sailors (6-4, 5-0) won the Patriot League game. Kate Stone (8 draw controls), Katie Tarsala and Tess Railton also starred for Scituate.

BOYS TENNIS

Scituate 5, Quincy 0: The Sailors won the Patriot League game.

Whitman-Hanson 4, Marshfield 1: Senior captain Aidan Hickey won a marathon match at first singles (6-3, 2-6, 6-1) for the Panthers.

Mansfield 5, Oliver Ames 0: The Tigers dropped the Hockomock League game.

GIRLS TENNIS

Scituate 5, Quincy 0: The Sailors won the Patriot League game.

Marshfield 5, Whitman-Hanson 0: The Rams won the Patriot League game.

Plymouth South 4, Hanover 1: South swept the doubles in straight sets and got wins from No. 1 Kiera McKaughlin and No. 3. Caroline Mori at singles.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Blue Hills 69, Bristol-Plymouth 67; BH 102, Holbrook 34: The Warriors won the tri-meet.

GIRLS GOLF

Cardinal Spellman 4, Fontbonne 3: The Cardinals won at President's Golf Course.

Hingham 4, Westborough 3: The Harborwomen got a non-league win.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Brookline 3, Weymouth 0: The Wildcats dropped a Bay State Conference match.

Needham 3, Braintree 0: The Wamps lost, 25-8, 25-12, 25-10.
