HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Epic performances from South Shore athletes on Thursday

There was no shortage of highlights for South Shore high school athletes Thursday.

On the diamond, Duxbury's Nick Ayres belted a pinch-hit, walk-off home run to lead the Duxbury baseball team past Plymouth South, 8-7. Abington's Kasie Bailey led the Green Wave softball team to a 3-2 victory over Braintree with a walk-off double. Plymouth North's Bella Piekarski belted 3 home runs in a win over Quincy. Hanover belted 4 home runs as a team in a 13-10 win over Whitman-Hanson, highlighted by a grand slam from Noey Giardina (7 RBIs).

On the lacrosse field, Rockland's Lucas Leander recorded his 300th career point with a 9-point performance in a win over Mashpee in boys action. On the girls side, Canton's Emily McCabe recorded her 100th career point in a win over Mansfield.

BASEBALL

Duxbury 8, Plymouth South 7: Nick Ayres belted a pinch-hit, walk-off home run to lift the Dragons to the Patriot League win. Casious Johnson hit a home run and drove in 3 RBIs in the loss.

Hanover 6, Whitman-Hanson 3: Gabe Knudsen struck out 10 and drove in 4 runs to lead the way for the Hawks. John McDonald had 3 hits and 3 stolen bases. Senior captain Jake Pelish had a 2-run single.

Canton 14, Norwell 11: Freshman Andrew Gillis had 2 runs and 2 hits scored for the Bulldogs. Matthew Chafin also had 2 hits and scored 4 runs.

Pembroke 3, Marshfield 1: The Titans won their season opener.

BC High 9, Lowell 1: Ryan Kane, Alex Parisi and Liam Kinneen combined to allow just 2 hits on the mound in the win for the Eagles.

South Shore Tech 3, Upper Cape Tech 2: The Vikings won the Mayflower League game.

West Bridgewater 7, Avon 3: The Wildcats won the Mayflower League game.

Silver Lake 11, Scituate 1: Jack Quigley went 2-for-4, hitting his first career home run and driving in 4, and Connor Finn was 3-for-3 with 5 RBI as the Lakers won the Patriot League battle. Winning pitcher Jake Cipullo went 5 innings, giving up 1 run and striking out 8 on 85 pitches.

Boston Latin 11, Archbishop Williams 0: Freshman Ben Menghi pitched well in the loss.

SOFTBALL

West Bridgewater 15, Avon 3: Brianna LaGrange (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) hit her first varsity home run in the win for the Wildcats. Neala Boyd went 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs and Amanda Jacques was 3-for-3 (2 runs, 1 RBI). McKenzie Craig went 3-for-3 and drove in 3 RBIs. Haylee Krakowski struck out seven batters over 3 innings of relief.

Hanover 13, Whitman-Hanson 10: Hanover sophomore Noey Giardina had 3 hits, including a grand slam, and finished with 7 RBIs. Abby Hanna belted 2 home runs and drove in 4 runs. Kaylee Butterfield and Emi Cooke both went 3-for-4 in the loss while Taryn Leonard hit two runs.

Malden Catholic 14, Notre Dame Academy 10: In the home loss, the Cougars were led by Ava O’Donahue (3-for-3, steal, 2 RBI), Piper Levin (2-for-5, double, 2 RBI) and Olivia Mainvielle (2-for-4, RBI).

Hingham 19, North Quincy 4: The Harborwomen won the Patriot League game.

Marshfield 15, Pembroke 0: The Rams won the Patriot League game.

Plymouth North 15, Quincy 3 (5 inn.): Bella Piekarski belted 3 home runs and drove in 5 runs to power the Blue Eagles to a home win. Ellie Snyder (3-for-3, home run and 2 RBI), Gabby Bacci (3 RBI) and Callie Smith (2 RBI) also starred at the plate, and Marissa Durette got the win in the circle with 6 strikeouts before giving way to reliever Victoria Parent. North stole 11 bases with Haylee Joudrey getting 5 of them.

Canton 10, Rockland 3: Shealyn Murphy struck out 13 batters in a complete-game victory while helping her cause with 2 hits and 2 RBIs at the play. Olivia Mackwell had 4 hits and 4 RBI. Kailyn Dunham chipped in 3 hits to go with strong defense in center field.

South Shore Tech 7, Upper Cape Tech 5: Lexi Mitsiopoulos scored 3 runs and had two hits for the Vikings (2-0). Rose Earner belted a solo home run and Mia Bradshaw drove in 2 runs and earned the save. Hannah Daily, a sophomore, earned the win on the mound.

Abington 3, Braintree 2: Kasie Bailey (2-for-3) had a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to plate Maddie Perry (2 hits, 2 runs) for the Green Wave (2-1). Brenna Howley and Vivian Bonner each had an RBI, while Shannon Varvitsiotis earned the win on the mound (7 innings, 8 strikeouts, 5 hits, 2 walks).

Norwell 6, Carver 5: The Clippers won the South Shore League game.

Archbishop Williams 17, Boston Latin 5: Shelby Parr struck out 16 batters in the win while Alyssa Burke starred at the plate (4-for-5, 3 RBIs, home run).

Silver Lake 23, Scituate 3: The Lakers won the Patriot League game.

Cardinal Spellman 13, Ursuline 1: Taylor Dolan struck out 12 batters and allowed 2 hits over the 6-inning game. Dolan and Lucy LaCara each had 2 hits.

BOYS LACROSSE

Sandwich 14, Pembroke 5: The Titans dropped the non-league game.

Norwell 13, Dover-Sherborn 6: The Clippers won the non-league game.

Hull 12, Falmouth Academy 4: The Pirates won the non-league game.

Needham 17, Braintree 5: Drew Coady scored 4 goals in the loss.

Whitman-Hanson 15, Quincy/North Quincy 4: The Panthers out-scored QNQ 10-1 in the second half to break the game open. Gavin McCarthy (5 goals, 3 assists), Colin Murphy (4 goals, 2 assists) and Connor McCarthy (4 goals, assist) led the way in the win. Mikey Galligan had a goal and an assist in the loss.

Rockland 18, Mashpee 3: Lucas Leander scored 9 points (5 goals, 4 assists), giving him over 300 points in his career in the win. Gaven Wardwell (4 goals, 2 assists), Tyler Boehner (2 goals, 3 assists) and Pat McGuirk (3 goals) also starred.

Mansfield 14, Canton 5: The Bulldogs dropped the Hockomock League game.

Oliver Ames 6, Attleboro 5: The Tigers won the Hockomock League game behind goals from Ben Reardon (2), Ryan Jaco (2), Shaun Teehan and Victor Romeiro.

Cohasset 8, Barnstable 4: The Skippers improve to 3-0.

Scituate 18, Silver Lake 8: Owen Hofford, Will Robinson and Peter Cappadona all had 2 goals and 3 assists for the Sailors (2-0).

Dartmouth 10, Middleboro 6: Jake Jordan and Dean Teceno (assist) both had 2-goal games in the loss.

Milton 14, Weymouth 11: Milton out-scored Weymouth 5-2 in the fourth quarter to break a 9-9 tie.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Weymouth 19, Milton 2: Megan Doyle (10 points, 12 draw controls, 6 ground balls) and Mira Flaherty (6 points) led the way for the Wildcats. Cameron Flaherty (3 goals), Kira Keenan (4 points) and Meg Connolly (2 goals) also had multi-point days. Maddie Taylor scored her first varsity goal and Anya Younie made 5 saves.

Norwell 12, Hingham 10: Charlise Cox had 5 goals and 4 draw controls as the Clippers won the non-league game. Holly Panttila (3 goals, 2 assists, 6 draw controls) and Charlotte Pithie (13 saves) also starred.

Canton 13, Mansfield 6: Emily McCabe scored 6 goals and 3 assists in the win for the Bulldogs. That 9-point performance pushed her over 100 points in her career.

Hingham 17, Quincy 4: Grace Maroney led the way with 9 points in the win. Stella Brazis added 5 points while Lily Ehler and Abbey Kennedy each finished with 3 points.

Silver Lake 9, Barnstable 6: Maggie Keller made 8 saves while Cloe Geraigey, Brielle Cote and Caitlin Dilley all finished with 2 goals.

Sandwich 17, Pembroke 1: The Titans dropped the non-league game.

Dartmouth 16, Bridgewater-Raynham 9: Ashley McLaren scored 4 goals for the Trojans in the loss.

Medfield 14, Cohasset 11: Cohasset rallied from a 10-5 deficit to the tie the game at 11-11, but the Warriors won the rematch of last year's Div. 3 state final. Laney Larsen tallied 5 goals in the loss.

Whitman-Hanson 8, North Quincy 5: Ella Nagle (4 goals, 2 assists) and Liv Godwin (9 saves) led the Panthers to a win. Bailey Kelly, Andrea Mulligan and Maddy Geagan each had a goal and an assist for W-H.

Franklin 19, Stoughton 1: The Black Knights lost the Hockomock League game.

Oliver Ames 13, Attleboro 11: Catie Wilson and Erin Cottam both had 4-goal games for the Tigers while Leanna Hudson added a hat trick.

Hull 15, Tri-County 9: The Pirates won on the road.

Nauset 15, Plymouth South 3: The Panthers lost on the road.

Needham 11, Braintree 4: The Wamps dropped the Bay State Conference game.

GIRLS TENNIS

Duxbury 5, Plymouth South 0: Caroline Sutcliffe and Annibel Keating won 6-0, 6-0 at first and second singles, respectively.

Abington 3, Sandwich 2: Nathan Ludlam (first singles), Tara Kamil (third singles) and Rylee DeMinico/Mallory Brink (first doubles) all had wins for the Green Wave.

Cardinal Spellman 3, Rockland 2: Kiara Miguel (first singles) and Ese DeFilippo (third singles) won their matches for Rockland.

Hingham 5, North Quincy 0: Sandy Khadivi (first), Brooke Flynn (second) and Kate Radulski (third) swept the singles matches for Hingham while Sammy Price/Sam Ruddick (first) and Susie Anderson/Ellie Clark (second) took the doubles matches.

Hanover 3, Whitman-Hanson 2: Samantha Jacobsen (second singles) and Sophie Ennis/Delany Hughes (first doubles) won their matches for the Panthers.

BOYS TENNIS

Mashpee 3, Middleboro 2: Jackson Collins/Trey Baker won at first doubles for Middleboro.

Hingham 5, North Quincy 0: Travis Rugg, Ethan Warhaftig, Liam Arnold, Ben LaRhette, Nick Dubois, Will Baker and Logan Price all won their matches for the Harbormen.

Hanover 3, Whitman-Hanson 2: Brady Wright (second singles) and Tristan Baker (third singles) had wins for the Panthers (1-1).

Duxbury 5, Plymouth South 0: Bennet Stout (first), Taylor Bettencourt (second) and Peter Burnham (third) swept the singles matches for the Dragons.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Taunton 3, Quincy 0: The Presidents (3-1) were swept on the road 25-11, 25-15, 25-18.

Braintree 3, Weymouth 1: Senior Willson Lin tallied 25 kills as the Wamps picked up the Bay State Conference win (25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-18).

BOYS RUGBY

Marshfield 24, Hingham 17: The Rams won the Patriot League game.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Whitman-Hanson 75, Duxbury 57: W-H winners included Savannah Kamperides (400m hurdles), McKenna McCarthy (mile) Amiliya Gretsky (2 mile), Ashley Sweeney (javelin), Paige Reichert (high jump) and Sydney Pires (long jump and triple jump).

Pembroke 85, Quincy/North Quincy 50: Winners for Q/NQ were Salma Boukhtam (800m), Helena Middleton (javelin), Maddy McGillicuddy (400m), Aluna Coogan-Coyne (mile) and Hannah Moriarty (400m hurdles).

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

East Bridgewater 77, Norwell 59: Chris Oman was a triple winner for the Vikings (2-0). He won the long jump, 100m and broke a school record in the 200m (22.3 seconds). Brennan Shea won the high jump and 400m hurdles.

Pembroke 94, Quincy/North Quincy 42: Winners for Q/NQ were Alex Martinez (long jump), Jayden Francois (triple jump) and Jacey Ham (high jump).

Marshfield 73, Hingham 63: In the loss, Hingham's Sam Reffue won the 100m (:11.48) and 200m (:23.25); Brendan Burm won the 2-mile (10:37) and was second in the mile (4:46); and Griffin Coppola won the 400m (:53.45) and was third in the triple jump. Other winners for Hingham: Sam Benham (800m, 2:04); Ryan Gates (400m hurdles, 1:02); Cole Sampson (javelin, 136-2); and the 4x400m relay (Benham, Jack Murtagh, Coppola, Bryce Botelho in 3:38).
