HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Four different players score as Middleboro boys hockey edges Abington

Connor McNaughton, Nolan Kaiser, Brayden Fernald and Sam Steinman scored Wednesday night to lift the Middleboro boys hockey team to a 4-3 win over South Shore League rival Abington.

The Sachems improved to 4-9-1.

Jake Quinn scored twice for the Green Wave (5-9), and Evan St. Martin had 3 assists. Goaltender Spencer Merrick made 24 saves.

BOYS HOCKEY

Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth 6, Stoughton/Brockton 1: Nick Sturdevant had a pair of goals and an assist for the Hawks (6-3-1). John Whalen, Andrew Flanagan, Thomas Leger and Luke Martineau also scored, and Jake Schofield made 21 saves. Anthony DeSousa scored for Stoughton/Brockton in the loss.

Braintree 6, Milton 3: The Wamps (7-4-1) beat the Wildcats (6-7-1) on the road. Patrick O’Neil, Sean McDougall and Owen McHugh scored for Milton, and Andrew McHugh made 31 saves.

Weymouth 6, Needham 5 (OT): Defenseman Jack Brady won it in OT for the visiting Wildcats (6-7-1). Andrew Ferguson scored twice, and Jack Browning and Ryan Kane added goals.

Canton 5, North Attleboro 2: Travis Thomas, Pat Drury, Brian Middleton, A.J. Thomas and Colin Blake scored for the Bulldogs (12-3) in the road win.

Norwell 6, Rockland 1: Timmy Ward had a hat trick and a pair of assists to power the Clippers (14-1). Austin Shea scored twice, and Jackson Logan netted his first varsity goal. Quinn Simmons added 3 assists. Patrick McGuirk scored for Rockland (6-9-1), and Joseph Dow made 37 saves.

Cohasset/Hull 3, West/East Bridgewater 3: The Skippers (8-2-3) skated to a tie against WEB (7-7-1), which got goals from Anthony Patete, Brett Peterson and Christian Bates.

Duxbury 4, Plymouth South 2: Anders Kilbourne, Aiden Harrington, Brady Walsh and Chris Gillis scored to lead the Dragons (10-4-2) to a Patriot League win over the Panthers (11-3-1).

Marshfield 2, Scituate 1: Shane Keeler and Tommy Carroll scored, and goaltender Brady Quackenbush had a strong game as the Rams (12-1-2) edged the Sailors (10-4-2).

Plymouth North 3, Pembroke 1: Aidan MacKenzie, Ben Young and Samuel Magnarelli (empty net) scored for North (5-10) in the Patriot League home win.

Silver Lake 6, Quincy 2: Brandon Cavicchi and Aiden Dunphy each had a pair of goals and an assist, and Braden Steidenger and Liam Tompkins also scored for the Lakers (10-4-1), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Pat Murphy added two assists, and goaltender Andy Renner got the victory. Will Martin scored both goals for Quincy.

Whitman-Hanson 3, North Quincy 2 (OT): Luke Tropeano scored on breakaway in overtime to lift the Panthers (9-6). Joe Culley's second-period goal tied the game at 1-1, and Zakk Spano put W-H in front early in the third before the Raiders knotted it up with 1:08 left and their goalie pulled for an extra skater.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Archbishop Williams 4, Matignon 0: Rory Shields scored twice, and Grace Mottau (Avon) and Caroline Batchelder (Braintree) had a goal and an assist each for the Bishops (11-0-1).

Milton 2, Braintree 0: Lila Chamoun had a 31-save shutout, and Molly Murphy and Caelan Leddy scored to power the visiting Wildcats (11-1-3) past the Wamps (8-3-2).

Canton 5, King Philip 2: Audrey Koen had a hat trick, and Abby Stock and Izzy Cusack added goals as the Bulldogs (11-2-2, 5-1) clinched a fourth straight Hockomock League crown.

Duxbury 2, Hanover 0: The Dragons (14-0-1) edged the Hawks (5-8) in Patriot League action.

Hingham 4, Plymouth North/South 2: Addy Garrity, Abbey Kennedy, Isabel McCabe and Reese Pompeo scored for the Harborwomen (8-5-2), who raced out to a 4-0 lead.

Marshfield 5, Quincy/North Quincy 1: Maija Kastrud, Maeve Greland, Courtney Pateras, Cassie Burke and Addison Brown scored for the Rams (5-10-1).

Norwell/Abington 4, Scituate 1: Maddie MacDonald scored twice, and SaraGrace Edelman and Lainey Burns added goals for the Clippers (8-5). Calli Pineau had 3 assists.

Pembroke 4, Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake 0: Jen Birolini had a hat trick and Sadie Quatrale added a goal as the Titans (9-5-1) rebounded after back-to-back losses. Goalie Mia Dunphy recorded the shutout.

Central Catholic 4, Stoughton 0: The Black Knights lost at home on Senior Night.

West/East Bridgewater 2, Old Rochester 2: Lauren McPherson scored both goals for WEB (3-7-2), assisted by Riley Bain and Emma Russo.

Needham 2, Weymouth 0: The Wildcats (6-7-2) dropped a Bay State Conference game.

Thayer Academy 4, Brooks School 3: The Tigers won in ISL action.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Scituate 61, Southeastern Regional 55 (OT): Michael Porter scored 18 points, and Dawit Quilty added 10 points and 7 rebounds as the visiting Sailors (11-4) gave coach Matt Poirier his 350th career victory. Tristan Ortega had 18 points for Southeastern, and Sam Dol-Millard added 13. The game was tied at 53-all at the end of regulation.

Holbrook 65, Avon 55: Armani Perkins scored 26 points to lead the Bulldogs to a road win. Owen Burke (16 points), Malachi Desire (11) and Marquis Dobay-Lindsay (9) also contributed. Josiah Guerrier (19 points, 15 rebounds) and Kenzel Jean-Michel (15 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks) starred for Avon.

Middleboro 68, New Bedford 57: Jacob Briggs scored 20 points and Matt Youngquist added 16 as the Sachems (12-4) picked up a non-league road win.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bridgewater-Raynham 51, Dracut 45: Natalia Hall-Rosa had 24 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists as the host Trojans (10-3) clinched an MIAA playoff berth for the ninth straight season (excluding the no-playoff COVID campaign of 2020-21). Reese Bartlett (9 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists), Brenna Woodbury (8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals), Libby Cronin (5 points, 9 rebounds) and Jenna Micciantuono (5 points, 7 rebounds) also contributed for B-R, which trailed by one point on two separate occasions in the third quarter.

Notre Dame Academy 47, Canton 29: Ava Orlando scored 26 points as the Cougars (8-5) posted a non-league road win. Elle Orlando (6 points) and Lola Paradis (5 points, 6 rebounds) also contributed.

Carver 54, Fairhaven 35: Sarah Stairs scored 18 points, and senior Ashleigh Johnson added 12 on Senior Night for the Crusaders. Sophomores Julia Grimes and Jadyn Sotomayor each chipped in with 11.

Avon 40, Holbrook 25: Hanelie Cadet (19 points) and Dahlia Parent (11 points, 16 rebounds) led the Panthers (7-4) to a road win.

Thayer Academy 67, Lawrence Academy 51: The Tigers won on the road in ISL action.

WRESTLING

Bridgewater-Raynham 51 Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth 23: The Trojans (20-1-1) got wins from Kennedie Davis, Jack Alves, Brent von Magnus, Fletcher Rinke, Charlie Swenson, Christian Curley, Chris Hogg, Nathan Leach and Declan Fahy.

Whitman-Hanson 38, Silver Lake 33: The Panthers (10-5-3) rallied from 13 points down heading into the final three matches. W-H got pins from PJ Katz (106 pounds), Charlie Lussier (113), Jacob Metivier (152), Cooper Lussier (170) and Maddox Colclough (285). Braden Kain (138) and Aidan Guiliani (145) won major decisions.

Plymouth South 57, Quincy/North Quincy 24: The Panthers clinched the Patriot League Fisher Division. Q/NQ (7-11) got wins from Nathan Doyle, Ibrahim Yacouty, Angelo Orlando and Matthew Nellany.

Duxbury 54, Plymouth North 24: The Dragons completed an unbeaten regular season to win their first Patriot League Keenan Division crown since 2006.

Braintree 54, Framingham 24: The Wamps won a Bay State Conference match on the road.

Hingham 55, Marshfield 19: The Harbormen beat the Rams in Patriot League action.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS

Newton North 131.7, Braintree 129.3: Abigail Kostas (32.55) was third in the all-around for Braintree (2-5). Megan Matheny (8.75) was second on balance beam, and Kostas (8.5) was third. The Wamps also got third-place finishes from Megan Matheny (8.55 on vault) and Sophia Ryan (7.8 on bars).
