High school roundup: Late goals lift Lakeville North past Farmington in girls hockey

A pair of third-period goals — including the go-ahead goal with 35 seconds left — helped vault Lakeville North past Farmington and avoid an upset on the road with a 3-2 victory Thursday.

Two minutes into the third period, Greta Smith of Lakeville North (15-5-0) scored her second goal of the game, tying the game at 2-2 after Farmington had taken a one-goal lead midway through the second period. Then with less than a minute left, junior forward Addison Bowlby scored the game-winner.

Both teams provided a barrage of offense, combining for 80 total shots on net. Amelia Goblirsch and Madison Kadrlik scored for Farmington (5-13-0).

Boys hockey

St. Paul Academy 3, Simley 2: Junior Will Black scored the game-winning goal three minutes into overtime as St. Paul Academy (6-6-1) overcame a 2-0 first-period deficit to beat Simley (5-10-1).

Simley jumped out to a quick two-goal lead as Carl Lane scored less than a minute into the game and Louis Tuccitto added another about two minutes later.

St. Paul Academy’s Jack Beeman-Trelstad scored a power-play goal midway through the first period to cut Simley’s lead to one. The game remained 2-1 until the third period, when Sebastian Hoiland scored the tying goal that would push it to overtime.

Other scores: Cretin-Derham Hall beat Forest Lake 3-1; Roseville beat Park 3-1; St. Thomas Academy beat South St. Paul 5-0; White Bear Lake beat Woodbury 6-2; Hastings beat Tartan 3-2.

Boys basketball

Rosemount 53, Eastview 47: Bennett Arlandson scored 17 points and Carter Theisen added 16 to lift Rosemount (5-7) past Eastview (8-3). The win was Rosemount’s first South Suburban Conference win of the season and first loss for Eastview in conference play.

Rosemount’s defense kept Eastview’s offense in check, holding it to its second-lowest point total this season. Jonathan Mekonnen led Eastview with 14 points, the team’s only double-digit scorer. Meanwhile the Irish used a strong second half to pull off the upset on the road, outscoring Eastview by nine points.

Other scores: St. Croix Lutheran beat Trinity 49-28; Liberty Classical beat Community of Peace 78-54; Lakeville North beat Burnsville 76-59; Lakeville South beat Shakopee 80-64.

Girls basketball

Shakopee 49, Lakeville South 44: Nicole Maenke scored a game-high 15 points as Shakopee (9-6) prevailed over Lakeville South (11-4) at home.

Lakeville South has now lost four of its last six games after beginning the year 7-0. Danielle Colman and Whitley Ronn each scored 10 points for the Cougars.

Meanwhile, Shakopee has won five straight games.
