Evan Hebblethwaite was brilliant on a day with almost no margin for error.
The senior threw a 2-hit shutout with 9 strikeouts as Hanover High baseball team edged Marshfield on the road, 1-0, Thursday in Patriot League action.
Hebblethwaite, who improved to 5-2, got just enough offense from senior Jack Fish (2 hits) and classmates Carter Zielinski and Christian Henderson, who had one each. Zielinski scored the game's only run on a wild pitch in the first inning for the Hawks (10-8).
Owen Masterson pitched well for Marshfield.

Braintree 12, Hingham 5: Cam Grieve was 4-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI as the Wamps (15-5) concluded the regular season with a non-league win. Jordan Gorham (2-for-5, 2 RBI) and Dan Surette (2 hits) also starred, and Surette, Anthony Carey and Jack Titley threw their first varsity innings.
Avon 17, Randolph 3: Zach Mayo pitched 5 innings, striking out 8, en route to his first varsity win. Ryan Luddy and Will Torres had 2 hits apiece, and Jordan Medeiros, Nate Maguire and Ben Winter all scored multiple times.
Framingham 5, Quincy 3: The Presidents (11-10) lost a non-league game to the Flyers.
Plymouth South 13, North Quincy 7: Senior Tommy Sullivan was 3-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBI as South (15-5) won its regular-season finale. Senior Jack Obert pitched 5 innings for the win, and sophomore Casious Johnson earned the save with 2 scoreless innings. Obert was 2-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI, and Nathan Ferry was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Plymouth South 14, Hingham 13 (8 inn.): Morgan Brenner's walk-off RBI single won it for the Panthers.
Rockland 10, South Shore Tech 2: South Shore's Zoey Bradshaw hit a solo home run and scored on a single by McKenzie Jepsen.
Plymouth North 6, Hanover 4: Emily Jenkins was 3-for-4 with a solo home run, and Maggie Ladd (2-for-3) and Caroline Collins also drove in runs as the Blue Eagles (17-2) won on Senior Night. Meg Banzi was 2-for-4 for North, Kylee Hefner added a hit, and Collins earned the victory in the circle with 4 strikeouts. For Hanover (13-6), McKenzie Foley had 2 doubles and scored twice, Erin Condon and Abby Hanna each drove in a pair of runs, and pitcher Abby Smith was strong in the circle.
Rockland 7, Pembroke 6: Lucas Leander (4 goals, 2 assists) and Justin Cronin (hat trick) sparked the Bulldogs to a non-league win. Tyler Boehner and Mateo Vasquez added assists.
Southeastern 11, Tri-County 9: Jacob Lehan scored 4 goals and had 9 faceoff wins to lead the Hawks. Thomas Hustins added a hat trick, Peyton Volz chipped in with 2 goals and an assist, and goalie Jack Carifa made 12 saves.
Duxbury 10, Billerica 7: The Green Dragons (13-4) won at home.
Weymouth 7, Needham 5: Megan Doyle had 4 goals, 4 draw controls and 3 caused turnovers as the Wildcats posted their first-ever win over the Rockets. Mira Flaherty (2 goals), Cam Flaherty (goal, 3 caused turnovers), Molly Higgins (strong defense) and goalie Anya Younie (9 saves) also starred.
Hingham 14, Norwell 10: Shea Berigan had 4 goals and an assist to lead the Harborwomen to a non-league win. Caroline Connolly (3 goals, assist), Ellie Fabbro (2 goals), Grace Maroney (2 goals), Kyle Wilson (goal, 2 assist), Kenzie Wilson (goal) and Katherine Bradshaw (goal) also contributed. Norwell (12-8) was led by Mika Johnson (4 goals), Jane Smith (2 goals, 15 draw controls) and Maddie McDonald (2 goals, assist).
Plymouth South 3, Middleboro 2: South’s Karina Dias and Anna Quinn rallied for a 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 win at first doubles to decide the match.
Bridgewater-Raynham 4, Pembroke 1: Nicole Kimball (No. 1) and Eily Mitchell (No. 3) won in singles, and B-R swept the doubles with the teams of Smitty Sriram/Grace Morris and Annaliese Colwell/Marlena Colwell.
Pembroke 4, Bridgewater-Raynham 1: The Titans won a non-league match.
Oliver Ames 4, North Attleboro 1: The Tigers won a Hockomock League match.
Quincy 3, Barnstable 0: The Presidents (12-8) concluded the regular season with a 25-22, 25-17, 25-21 road win. Quincy had 28 kills on 26 assists, 101 digs and 8 blocks as a team.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Division 4: Pembroke's Sarah Claflin won the 200 meters in a school-record 25.01 seconds, Southeastern Regional's Trista Sicard won the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 2 inches, and host Notre Dame Academy starred in the pentathlon on the first day of the Division 4 state championships.
NDA had five of the top eight finishers in the pentathlon, led by Shaelyn Taylor, who was third with 2,110 points. She was joined by teammates Caroline Harnett (4th, 1,852), Grace Burgoyne (6th, 1,804), Ava Foley (7th, 1,750) and Julia Foley (8th, 1,255). Also for NDA, Paige Joyce was second in the 2-mile in 11:12.75, and Lauren Joyce, her sister, was ninth in 11:38.81.
In the triple jump, Pembroke finished 2-3 with Allison Flaherty (35-7.25) and Catrena Ghattas (35-6.25).
The Division 4 meet concludes Saturday.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Division 4: Pembroke's Connor Lockhart was runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 42-3.5 on the first day of the Division 4 state championships at Notre Dame Academy. Teammate Charles Goncalves was fifth (40-9.75), and Southeastern's Brandon Hooper was sixth (40-8.25).
Scituate's Miles Jones was sixth in the 200m (:23.33), and Pembroke's Patrick Norman was sixth in the discus (121-9).
The Division 4 meet concludes on Saturday.
