HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Hanover girls soccer posts rare win over Plymouth North

This was a first, at least of recent vintage.

Sophia Foley and Eva Kelliher scored Thursday to lift the Hanover High girls soccer team to a 2-0 win over Plymouth North.

It was the Hawks' first victory over the Blue Eagles since Hanover coach Mary Cullity took over the program in 2018.

Hanover is now 3-0-1.

GIRLS SOCCER

Braintree 2, Walpole 2: Senior midfielder Ciara Horan assisted on Mya Ranieri's goal and later scored herself from the penalty spot as the Wamps (0-2-2, 0-2-1) played to a Bay State Conference draw at home. Junior goalkeeper Jackie McGonigle had a strong game for Braintree, along with backs Nina DiRusso and Ciara O'Sullivan.

Blue Hills 5, Mount Alvernia 0: Sophomore Kathleen Murphy had a hat trick, and senior Emily Lehane (Braintree) had a goal and an assist for the host Warriors (3-0-1). Lehane became the program's all-time leader in assists, one day after netting the all-time goals record. Senior Isabella Pio (Randolph) had the other goal, and sophomore Annelise Witunsky (Holbrook) notched her first career assist. Goalkeeper Mikeyla Roman posted the clean sheet.

Oliver Ames 2, King Philip 1: Taylor Devos scored both goals for OA (2-1). Catie Wilson, Rhiya Fisher and Lucinda Li Cotter had strong games, and goalkeeper Janiya Matier made six saves.

Stoughton 2, Attleboro 1: Shayla Ford opened the scoring in the third minute, and Morgan Cook broke a 1-1 tie in the 40th minute off an assist from Emma Byrne as the Black Knights posted their first win. Katrina Varnum made 10 saves for Stoughton.

Whitman-Hanson 5, Plymouth South 0: Madeleine Fitzgerald had a first-half hat trick for the Panthers (1-2). Ella Nagle and Makenna Marshall added goals in the second half. Lexi Cole, Kennedy Frazier, Savannah Kamperides and Brooke McAloney played well, helping goalkeeper Ava Patete (3 saves) pick up her first shutout of the season.

Duxbury 5, Pembroke 1: Josie Lee scored twice, and Maddy Greenstein, Meghan Carney and Ana Mundy added goals for the host Dragons (3-1). Morgan Chevrie had an assist, and Izzy Maser and Ana Curtain also played well.

Marshfield 3, North Quincy 0: Sammy Zaslaw (assisted by Kayla DiPasquale), Madison McGregor (assisted by Zaslaw) and DiPasquale (assisted by Kat Kiziuk) scored for the Rams.

Canton 2, Taunton 0: Emily McCabe scored both goals for the Bulldogs. Caira McKinney and Gisella Berardi had assists.

Oliver Ames 2, King Philip 1: The Tigers notched a Hockomock League win.

Avon 2, Wareham 1: Emma MacDonald scored both goals for Avon. Brynn Gaynor and Jadyn Bowyer were strong in the midfield, and Dahlia Parent and Gianna Rosa were defensive standouts.

Hingham 2 Scituate 1: Kelsey Tarby and Emily Gibbons scored for the Harborwomen (3-0-2).

Holbrook 6, South Shore Tech 1: The Bulldogs topped the Vikings in Mayflower Athletic Conference action.

BOYS SOCCER

East Bridgewater 2, Apponequet 1: Trailing 1-0, EB rallied in the second half, including a Mathias Floeck penalty kick with less than two minutes left. Zach Higgins had the other goal.

Pembroke 2, Duxbury 0: Junior Quinn Reilly scored both goals for the host Titans (4-0, 3-0 Patriot League). Senior captain Declan Crowley had both assists. Senior goalkeeper Jack Taylor had his third shutout of the season, and junior Matt McAuliffe and senior captain Ben Kane played well.

Hanover 1, Plymouth North 1: Ben Young scored for North, assisted by Josh Murray. Kevin Riley, Malachai Val and Eric Godlewski also played well for the Blue Eagles. Tyler Richards scored for Hanover (2-0-2, 2-0-1 Patriot League).

Canton 2, Taunton 2: Carson Eagles and Jake McCabe scored for the Bulldogs in a road tie.

Braintree 2, Walpole 0: Junior Pierce Julien and sophomore Calum McClorey scored for the Wamps (2-2) in the road win.

Whitman-Hanson 1, Plymouth South 0: Jackson Preskins scored the lone goal, and Dillon Galanis recorded the shutout for the Panthers (1-2, 1-1 Patriot League).

Marshfield 6, North Quincy 0: The Rams topped the Raiders in Patriot League action.

BOYS GOLF

Bridgewater-Raynham 231, Xaverian 233: Co-captain Justin Peters was the medalist, shooting 1-under 35 as B-R (2-1) won at Old Scotland Links. Richie Thayer shot even-par 36. Pat Concannon and Nick Rossi each shot 38.

Abington 96, Cohasset 88: Hunter Grafton scored 22 points to lead Abington to a victory. Jacob Quinn (17 points) and Zach Buccigross (15) also played well. Cohasset's Luke Cosentino scored 21 points.

Duxbury 248, Plymouth North 268: Andrew Curley shot 2-under 34 with a trio of birdies, and Owen Hamilton and Devin Kenneally each shot 41 to lead the Dragons at Crosswinds Golf Club in Plymouth.

East Bridgewater 105, Middleboro 81: Matt Werra posted 21 points to earn medalist honors while Mike Hauter and Tom Hancock also played well for EB (5-0).

Scituate 257, Pembroke 267: At Widow's Walk, Zach Fernandes was low medalist with a 40 for the Sailors (5-1), followed by Joe Masuret (41), Andrew Belsan (43), Isaac Breitenstein (44), Meyer Gack (44) and Stephen Marshall (45).

Hingham 244, Marshfield 256: Carson Erick was the medalist, shooting a 3-under par 33 for Hingham (4-0).

West Bridgewater 5.5, Southeastern 3.5: The Wildcats posted the win.

FIELD HOCKEY

Middleboro 2, Carver 1: Junior Maddy Butler had Carver's goal, assisted by classmate Natalie Waitkus. Junior goalkeeper Ali Perry made 12 saves in the loss.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Norwell 15, Rockland 38: Hallie Robitaiille and Monica Smith finished 1-2 for the Clippers in the home win. Rockland's Grace Brundige was fourth.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Norwell 15, Rockland 50: Thomas Corbett and Connor Reidy finished 1-2 for the Clippers in the home win.
