HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Jayden Morrell shines in Bourne softball's season opener

The Bourne High softball team began the year with a 14-0 win over Martha's Vineyard on Friday.

Jadyn Morrell did it all for Bourne in the win. In the circle, she struck out nine Vineyarders without surrendering a run. She also helped her own cause offensively, notching two hits, drawing two walks, and driving in two runs.

Jill Allen also had a two-hit day, and drove in four.

Softball

Monomoy 19, Nantucket 0: The Sharks begin the year 1-0, while Nantucket drops to 0-1.

Sturgis 19, Dennis-Yarmouth 4: Sophia Bruno went six innings in the circle for Sturgis (1-0), striking out 14. Offensively, freshman Ryley Mayo had three hits and two runs scored. Isabella Bruno, Molly Reino and Elsa Wiesner all had two hits each. The Dolphins are 0-1.

Scituate 15, Barnstable 3: The Red Hawks (0-1) drop their season opener.

Baseball

St. John Paul II 16, Dennis-Yarmouth 7: Tyson Ross shut the door with four shutout innings of relief, striking out 10 in the process, and earning the win for the Lions (1-0). Offensively, the Lions had a balanced attack in the win, with six different hitters (Colin Buckley, Tim Adams, Brady Meyer, Ryan Amerault, Brian Mancinelli, and Jacob Lenau) recording two RBI's.

Bristol Plymouth 7, Martha's Vineyard 5: The Vineyarders fall to 0-1. Mika Simmons (run, RBI) and Liam Marek (run) both had two hits.

Girl's Tennis

Plymouth North 5, Sandwich 0: The Blue Knights drop the season opener.

Cape Cod Academy 3, Monomoy 2: The Seahawks are 2-0 after beating Monomoy (0-1). Lili Shanahan (4-6; 7-6 8-6; 6-2), Bella Scioletti (6-0, 6-0), and Molly Lowery and Yoana Dokleva (6-2; 5-7; 6-4) won first and second singles, and second doubles respectively to clinch the win for the Seahawks.  Lilly Gould (6-0, 6-0) and the pair of Alyson Morris and Jocelyn White (6-1, 6-1) were victorious for the Sharks.

Boys Tennis

Cape Cod Academy 5, Monomoy 0: The Seahawks swept the Sharks to improve to 2-0 this season. Luke Spinner won firstst singles, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, Ben Catalano won second singles, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, and Griffin Mayo claimed victory in the third singles matchup, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Connor Hall and Tom Murray (6-2, 7-5), and James Brunicadi (6-1, 6-1), each took the wins in the doubles matchup. Monomoy opens its season 0-1.

Plymouth North 3, Sandwich 2: Andrew Emmel won the first singles after taking the first set 6-0, before his opponent retired, and Joey LaScola and Quinn Johnston won the second doubles match for both of the Blue Knights (0-1) points in the loss.

Girls Lacrosse

Nauset 9, St. John Paul II 8: The Warriors (1-0) started the season with an overtime win over the Lions (0-1). Bailey Nobili scored four goals, including the overtime winner to lead the way. Coral Punch and Julia Kipperman each had two goals, and Sienna Reeves added another in the win.

Cape Cod Academy 19, Mashpee 5: The Seahawks are 1-0 after topping the Falcons (0-1).

Boys Lacrosse:

Plymouth South 11, Barnstable 3: Chase Field, Owen O’Connor, and Doug Car each had a goal in the loss for the Red Hawks (1-1).

Old Colony 15, Upper Cape 2: The Rams (0-1) open the season with a loss
