High School Roundup: John Glenn sweeps past Maysville in MVL volleyball match-up

NEW CONCORD - Emma Briggs hit 10 kills and made nine digs and Hannah DeMattio tallied nine kills with four blocks, as the John Glenn swept the visiting Maysville 25-15, 25-22, 25-16 in MVL Big School Division action.

Kara Fields added eight kills and three blocks for the Lady Muskies (3-6 overall, 2-3 MVL), Lauren Blair passed out 30 assists, 11 digs and three kills, Aleea Musselman had 10 digs and three kills, Graceann Hitchcock made seven digs, Emma Dolan had three kills and three digs and Sydney White and Sarah Wayne had three digs apiece for the winners.

Maysville was led by Olivia McPeek with 21 assists, seven digs and two aces, Rachel Jarvis 10 kills, nine digs and two aces, Bekah Scott 14 digs and Sailor Atkins seven kills.

John Glenn reserves (5-4, 4-1) won 25-14, 25-11, as Izzy Myers had two kills, two aces and three digs, Alaiah Johnson two aces and two digs, and Brelynn Barr two kills, three assists, seven aces and three digs. Laikyn Clark served three aces and Taylor Freeland had three digs for Maysville.

John Glenn freshmen (2-3, 2-2) won 25-17, 25-12, as Addi Babcock had two kills, two assists, six aces and two digs, Faith Hayes two aces and Delaney Woodard two kills and three aces. Isabella VanWey hit three kills for Maysville.

Meadowbrook def. Coshocton, 25-17, 25-14, 25-15

BYESVILLE - Host Meadowbrook stayed perfect in MVL Small School play with a 25-27, 25-14, 25-15 sweep over Coshocton on Tuesday evening.

Camden Black, the reigning District Player of the Year, led the Lady Colts 4-2 overall, 4-0 MVL) with 15 kills to go along with 9 digs and a service ace. Ella Jeffries set up 29 assists while Kendyl Cannon pounded 7 kills.

Coshocton (4-3 overall, 3-2 MVL) was paced by Jalynn West with23 assists, while Lindsey Bryant added 10 kills and Miyah Davis made 12 digs.

NEXT - Meadowbrook will host Dublin Scioto on Saturday at 11 a.m. with JV action.

Buckeye Trail def. Conotton Valley, 25-17, 26-24, 25-20

OLD WASHINGTON - Buckeye Trail's volleyball squad stayed perfect on the season with a 25-17, 26-24, 25-20 sweep over Conotton Valley in Inter-Valley Conference action on Tuesday.

With the home court victory, the Lady Warriors improve to a perfect 7-0 mark on the season.

Kaydence Starr led Trail with nine points, two aces, 7-9 passing, seven digs, two assists, eight kills and two blocks in a busy night's work. Ally Carpenter added eight points, two aces, 11 digs, one kill, one block, while Josie Creighton chipped in with seven points, one ace, five digs, one assist, 12 kills and three blocks.

Anna McVicker handed out a team-high 18 assists, along with seven points, two aces, 7 digs, two kills, three blocks, with Kayleigh Abrams contributing five points, four digs, seven kills, one block. Grace Shipe finished with two points, 13 digs, and eight assists for the winners.

NEXT - Buckeye Trail travels to Malvern on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Dover def. Cambridge, 25-21, 25-20, 28-26

DOVER - Host Dover collected a clean sweep over Cambridge in non-league volleyball action on Tuesday evening by scores of 25-21, 25-20, and 28-26.

Leading the way for the Lady Bobcats (3-4) was the senior duo of Ryan Dunning and Kylie Taylor. Dunning finished with eight digs, nine kills, 11/11 serving with one ace, two blocks, one assist, with Taylor adding 11 digs, six kills, 13/16 serving with one ace, one block, one assist.

Xylvia Francis chipped in with eight digs, four kills, 9/11 serving with five aces,  Abby Mann collected seven digs, two kills, 13/14 serving with three aces, two assists. Kaitlyn Biddle contributed nine digs, three kills, 6/8 serving, one block, 17 assists, Jaedyn Lallithan had two digs, 2/2 serving, Gabby Oliver one dig, one assist and Anna Hill with two digs, 4/4 serving.

NEXT - Cambridge will host St. Clairsville on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

GOLF

Buckeye Trial 173, Ridgewood 211

WEST LAFAYETTE - Buckeye Trail picked up an Inter-Valley Conference road win over host Ridgewood by a score of 173-211 at River Greens Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.

Washington Miller captured medalist honors with a round of 41 to lead the Warriors' effort, along with Isaac Beaver (43), Carson Raber (43), and Harrison Miller (46).

With the win, Buckeye Trail improve to 15-8 on the season.

NEXT - Buckeye Trail will take part in the Guernsey County Tournament on Monday at the Cambridge Country Club starting at 1 p.m.

GIRLS TENNIS

Claymont 4, Cambridge 1

UHRICHSVILE - Cambridge High took to the road on a rainy Tuesday and got the match in with host Claymont, unfortunately for the Lady Bobcats it resulted in a 4-1 setback.

“Playing a little different lineup tonight, the girls showed more improvement," CHS head coach Tim Gibson stated. "I’m proud of everybody’s effort, can’t ask for any more then that.”

Collecting the lone win for Cambridge was the first doubles team of Miranda Cole and Emma Krise who collected a 6-0, 6-4 win over Maddison Houston and Meagan Douglas. of the Lady Mustangs

In singles action, CHS's Selina Garcia dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Arianna Terakedis in first singles. Jaelyn Combs played second singles and lost to Claymont's Emily Luyster. Magali Garcia lost to Makayla Kendall in third singles play.

Kilee Jeffery and Reese Antill dropped a hard fought third set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 match to Malala Douglas and Claire Carlisle in second doubles.

NEXT - Cambridge plays in the Dover invitational Saturday.
