High School Roundup: Lady Muskies' soccer blanks Philo 7-0 in MVL match

DUNCAN FALLS - Senior Marina Nicolozakes knocked in four goals, as visiting John Glenn led 4-0 at the half en route to a 7-0 Muskingum Valley League road win over Philo on Thursday evening.

Nicolozakes scored twice in the first half for the Lady Muskies (5-3-2, 4-0-1 MVL), then put in the first two in the second. Estelle Matheney, who had two first-half assists, scored the final goal to cap the scoring — off an assist from Nicolozakes.

Olivia Perrin and Riley Zamensky also scored for John Glenn, while Faith Lemon and Bean Sowers combined for five saves.

Scarlett Shanks had 11 saves for Philo (1-7, 1-4).

NEXT - John Glenn will host Maysville on Thursday at 6 p.m.

BOYS GOLF

WHEELING, WVa. - The Buckeye Trail's boys golf team took 3rd place with a team score of 348 in the Class 3A Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday at Oglebay Resorts Crispin Golf Course.

Leading the way for the Warriors was junior Blake Miller with 85, followed by junior Washington Miller (87), sophomore Braden St.Clair (88), and senior Isaac Beaver (89).

NEXT - Buckeye Trail will take part in the Meadowbrook Invitational on Monday, 2 p.m. at the Cambridge Country Club.

BOYS SOCCER

Marietta 8, Cambridge 0

Host Cambridge High boys' soccer team took its lumps in action Thursday at McFarland Stadium with Marietta blanking the Bobcats in an 8-0 victory.

CHS goal keeper Andrew Laplante was busy with 15 saves.

NEXT - Cambridge returns to action on Tuesday with a Buckeye 8 Conference home game with Beaver Local at McFarland Stadium.

VOLLEYBALL

Warren def. Cambridge, 26-24, 25-22, 25-20

Host Cambridge High School suffered a Buckeye 8 Conference sweep to Warren by scores of 26-24, 25-22, 25-20 on Thursday night inside Gene Ford Gymnasium.

Leading the way for the Lady Bobcats (5-6) was senior Ryan Dunning with 8/9 serving including an ace, eight kills, five digs, and a block, senior Kylie Taylor with 10/11 serving, two kills, seven digs, an assist, and 4 blocks. Xylvia Francis finished with 9/11 serving including two aces, a kill, eight digs, and a block.

Abby Mann with 13/13 serving including a pair of aces, nine kills, eight digs, and three blocks, Kaitlyn Biddle with 5/6 serving including an ace, six digs, 22 assists, and three blocks, Jaedyn Lallithan: with 9/9 serving, and three digs, and Gabby Oliver with 9 digs.

In JV action, Warren defeated the Bobcats 0-2 by scores of 10-25 and 6-25.

Leading Cambridge was Abby Roth with 5/6 serving, Lizzy Dunham with six digs, Alea Jones with a kill, Gwen Jeffries with an assist.

NEXT - Cambridge returns to the court Monday when they host Bellaire at 6:45 p.m.

John Glenn def. Crooksville, 25-11, 25-8, 25-19

John Glenn's duo of Emma Briggs and Lauren Blair showed their all-around talent to pace the visiting Lady Muskies to an MVL crossover win over Crooksville on Thursday.

Briggs had a team-high 11 kills with eight digs and Blair added 17 assists with three kills and a team-high 13 digs, leading a balanced John Glenn (4-4 MVL, 5-7 overall) attack that also saw Sarah Wayne collect 12 digs, Hannah Chrisman three aces with six digs and Aleea Musselman and Kara Fields five kills each.

Khirra Wilson had five kills and Mylee Moorehead and Tasia Riggs nine digs for Crooksville (2-10, 1-7). Julianna Locke had five assists and Paige Frame three kills.

Brelynn Barr and Natalie Kiggans had 15 digs each in John Glenn's 25-23, 15-25, 25-17 reserve win. Alexia Van Meter was 16-of-17 on serves with 10 digs for Crooksville; Alexis Eyman had four kills and eight digs.

NEXT - John Glenn will play host to Meadowbrook on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Meadowbrook def. Philo, 25-5, 25-5, 25-15

BYESVILLE - A strong Meadowbrook High team improved to 9-2 overall and 8-0 in the Muskingum Valley League with a convincing sweep of the visiting Philo on Thursday evening.

Senior Camden Black tallied 15 points, 11 kills, 16 digs to pace the Lady Colts' effort, while senior Kendyl Cannon finished with eight points, seven kills. Ella Jefferis handed out a team-high 35 assists, with two kills, and Karly Launder chipped in with 10 kills, 11 digs, Megan DeVillez added seven kills.

Meadowbrook reserves (10-1, 8-0) also won 25-15, 25-10.

NEXT - Meadowbrook travels to John Glenn on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
