High School Roundup: Lady Warriors roll to IVC win

OLD WASHINGTON — Host Buckeye Trail completed a season sweep over Newcomerstown High on Saturday with a convincing 60-19 win in Inter-Valley Conference girls varsity basketball action.

The Lady Warriors (6-7, 4-4 IVC) took control with a 28-9 lead at the halftime break with senior Kacey Hastings scoring nine of her game high 16 points.

Just missing double figures with nine points each was Kaydence Starr, Josie Creighton and Abby Wayble. Cheyann Smith and Emma Smith each chipped in with six points for the Lady Warriors.

NEXT — Buckeye Trail will host Edison on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

John Glenn 35, Philo 23

DUNCAN FALLS — The visiting Lady Muskies (10-5, 8-3 MVL) hit 5 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure a Muskingum Valley League-Big School Division win at The Power Plant.

The game was tied at 13 at halftime, but McKinzi Linscott had five points with a 3-pointer as the Lady Muskies outscored the hosts, 14-3, in the third to take a 26-16 lead into the final quarter.

Olivia Dement had a game-high 17 points with a trio of first-quarter 3-pointers for Philo, but only three Electrics (7-8, 5-5 MVL) scored. Dement finished with five 3s. She had six of the team's nine field goals.

Linscott, Angela Kumler and Chelsea Sotherdon had nine points for John Glenn.

Jess Church tallied 20 points and Sotherdon 17 to lead John Glenn to a 56-37 reserve win. Teegan Day's 18 points and Aleigha Bosse's 13 paced the Electrics.

NEXT — John Glenn will host Cambridge on Monday at 6 p.m.

New Lexington 59, Meadowbrook 33

BYESVILLE — Aubri Spicer scored 16 of her game-high 25 points for the visiting Lady Panthers (13-3, 9-2 MVL) in the deciding third to pull away in an MVL-Small School Division rout at The Corral.

Spicer and Cami Huffman had two 3s apiece in the third, when the Panthers blitzed the hosts, 24-3, to blow open a 29-25 game at halftime. Spicer also had six other baskets and a pair of free throws in that span.

Lydia Stephens hit two first-half 3s among her 11 points and Abby Wilson added eight counters for New Lex. The Panthers were 11-of-13 at the line.

Sophomore Kenli Norman's 14 points — she hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter — led Meadowbrook ( 6-8, 3-8 MVL).

NEXT — Meadowbrook will visit Sheridan on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.

High School Boys Basketball

John Glenn 56, Strasburg 32

NEW CONCORD — The host Muskies allowed only four first-half field goals in one of their most dominant efforts of the season in a non-league win against the Tigers.

Colin Campbell hit a trio of 3-pointers among his team-high 13 points for John Glenn (8-4), which led 23-10 at the half. Nathan Walker added 10 points, Avery Parmer nine and Kaiden Walls eight for the Muskies, who hit nine 3-pointers.

Will Nicolozakes scored all eight of his points off the bench in the second half, as John Glenn took a 37-20 lead into the fourth quarter.

Landon Potopsky led all scorers with 16 points for Strasburg.

Special Olympics Basketball

Guernsey Eagles 41, Coshocton Indians 25

COSHOCTON — Robert Covington tallied 13 points to lead the Guernsey Eagles to a 41-25 victory over the Coshocton Indians in Special Olympics basketball action.

Erin Mallett added eight points, Charlie Hall added six, Adam Finch and Jenn Hall with four points each. Bonnie Snyder, DJ Hall and JJ Raine each scored two points.
