HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Locals star at Div. 2 and 3 state track championships

On Sunday, the Oliver Ames girls and Duxbury boys both placed third at the MIAA Division 3 state championships.

On Saturday, the Marshfield girls took fifth in Div. 2 while Plymouth North (ninth) was the highest finisher on the boys side.

For the OA girls, Taegen Hodges (second) and Molly Capece (fifth) both placed in the 1,000m. Katie Sobieraj took second in the mile. The Tigers also had two relays teams place. The 4x200m team of Grace Okucha, Amelia Andre, Aubrey Thibault and Julia Maclaine took fourth. Jenna Gilman, Hodges, Capece and Sobieraj took third in the 4x800m. Andre finished eighth in the long jump.

Milton's 4x800m relay team of Marilyn Roche, Katie O'Toole, Gretel Shewe and Mia Jilani won the title by nearly 10 seconds (9:54) as the Wildcats placed fifth as a team. Jilani (fourth in 600m), O'Toole (third in mile), Sarah Grace Chave (eighth in two mile) and Donna Gauvin (sixth in 55m hurdles) also placed as individuals.

Shayla Ford won the 300m and was on Stoughton's sixth-place 4x200m relay team as the Black Knights placed sixth as a team. Simarah McPherson won the shot put (38-2.50).

Plymouth South's Cam Travis won the 55m hurdles in 8.53 seconds and also took sixth in the long jump. Silver Lake's Samantha Waters was second in the 55m and sixth in the 300m. Duxbury's 4x400m relay team of Madison Gage, Amelie Sellitto, Maggie Slimbaugh and Morgan Cheverie took third. Canton's Katherine Oliver placed fifth.

In the boys Div. 3 meet, Duxbury's third-place finish was powered by its state-champion 4x400m relay team of Davis Stapleton, Oliver Bishop, Luke Weiler and Nolan Ruel. Brody McGrail (second in 55m), Gavin Thomas (sixth in 55m, third in 300m), Weiler (third in 600), Ruel (fifth in 1,000m) and Oliver Bishop (sixth in 55m hurdles) also placed as individuals.

OA took sixth as a team behind second-place finishes from Aidan Dupill (1,000m) and Ryan Sarney (mile). Sarney and Dupill also teamed up with Alexander Pierce and Brendan Thomas on the state-champion 4x800m relay team (8:25).

Stoughton's Matt Singletary was the runner-up in the high jump and Alex Huynh was second in the long jump. Singletary also placed (fifth) in the long jump.

Scituate's Daniel Thompson was second in the shot put. Plymouth South's Dylan Brilliant took fourth in the mile.

In the Div. 2 girls meet, Ava Brunswick, Ava LoVuolo and Eleanor Angeles-Whitfield led the way for Marshfield. LoVuolo and Brunswick placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,000m. Charlotte Perrault joined that trio on the second-place 4x800m relay team.

Kelsey Tarby (600m) and Emma Mills (55m hurdles) had second-place finishes for Hingham, which was sixth as a team. Tarby, Sarah Kelly, Margaret Lowther and Clare Lowther combined to take third in the 4x400m relay.

Bridgewater-Raynham had three different individuals - Nethica Auguste (fifth in long jump), Emily Keefe (fifth in 600m), Sydney O'Donnell (sixth in 1,000m) - place to score a 13th-place finish as a team.

Plymouth North's Macey Shriner was second in the mile.

Three second-place finishes led the Plymouth North boys to seventh in Div. 2. Kevin Riley took second in the 600m while Mark Sten was second in the 300m. That duo joined Joe Moriarty and Cole Guiliani on the runner-up 4x400m relay team.

Declan Hetrick (fourth in shot put), Kauan Bento (fourth in 55m) and Connor Johnson (fifth in 300) all had solid showings for B-R.

BOYS BASKETBALL

TechBoston 59, North Quincy 58: Zach Taylor scored 26 points in the loss and was named to the all-tournament team at the Comcast IAABO 27 Tournament. Kobe Nguyen added 14 points and 4 steals. TechBoston's Micael DeLeon (25 points) hit the winning floater with 3.1 seconds remaining.

Marshfield 50, Boston Latin 38: The Rams finish the regular season at 13-7.

West Bridgewater 69, Avon 40: The Wildcats lock up a Mayflower Athletic Conference title with the win.

Archbishop Williams 76, Westford Academy 60: Tristan Rodriguez (21 points) and Andre Espaillat (18 points, 6 rebounds) led the way for the Bishops. Nate Pelton (10 points, 5 rebounds) and Charlie Conners (8 assists) also chipped in. Archies will play Mansfield in the Mansfield Tournament final on Wednesday on 7:15 p.m.

Mansfield 71, Hingham 50: The Harbormen will play Westford Academy on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the Mansfield Tournament consolation round.

Bourne 88, Plymouth South 65: The Panthers lost in Winterfest Final. Declan Davis scored 24 points in the loss.

Milton 53, Southeastern 51: The Wildcats won their first game of the season behind 23 points from senior Roddy Tobin. Luke Haley (11 points) and Will Renz (10) also chipped in.

Rockland 64, Sandwich 57: The Bulldogs (11-8) advance to the finals of the Shawn P. Cotter Tournament on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Cape Cod Academy. Gavin Wardwell (21 points) and Michael Moriarty (19 points, 5 rebounds) starred in the win.

Cape Cod Academy 82, Abington 81: Tyler Staiti (27 points) and Connor Pease (24 points, 10 rebounds) played well, but the Green Wave (9-12) lost in the Cotter Tournament. Abington will play Sandwich in the consolation game at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at 5:30.

Wakefield 48, Canton 47: Lucas Massih (12 points), Jeremiah Predin (11) and Kareem Porter (11) finished in double digits for the Bulldogs (10-10).

Weymouth 58, North Attleboro 49: The Wildcats rallied back from 18 points to win the Weymouth Family Invitational Tournament.

Medfield 70, Middleboro 65: Matt Youngquist scored 27 points while Jacob Briggs had 20 for the Sachems (15-6).

Hanover 72, King Philip 64: The Hawks won the non-league game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Sandwich 50, Carver 28: Julia Grimes scored 11 points in the loss.

Bridgewater-Raynham 56, Natick 29: The Trojans (16-3) rolled in the opening round of the Mansfield Roundball Classic behind solid games from Natalia Hall-Rosa (21 points, 9 steals), Reese Bartlett (16 points) and Brenna Woodbury (10 points).

Brookline 49, Braintree 25: The Wamps lost in the first round of the Warrior Classic.

Norwell 53, Newton North 42: Sara Cashin (17 points), Chloe Richardson (16) and Maddie Oliver (11) led the way for the Clippers in the win in the opening round of the Norwell Invitational.

Quincy 62, King Philip 48: Caroline Tracey played well as the Presidents won in the Norwell Invitational. Quincy will play Norwell in the tournament final on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Ursuline 53, Silver Lake 40: The Lakers lost in the JBA Classic consolation round.

Hingham 52, Weymouth 40: Sarah Holler was named tournament MVP as the Harborwomen won the Weymouth Family Invitational.

Westwood 49, Canton 18: The Bulldogs lost in the Riley Classic championship.

Millis 48, East Bridgewater 43: Freshman Emma Farrell scored 15 points for the Vikings (12-9). Phoebe Katilus added 12 points and Lily Pavidis chipped in 9.

Middleboro 48, New Bedford 42: The Sachems won their final game of the regular season to qualify for the state tournament.

Notre Dame Academy 66, Bishop Stang 43: The Cougars (14-6) repeat as the JBA Classic champions. Ava Orlando led the way with 24 points while Elle Orlando added 17. Lola Paradis chipped in 15. NDA won nine of its last 10 games.

Oliver Ames 58, Malden Catholic 41: The Tigers won the Spartan Classic behind a career-high 13 points from Katherine Farley.

BOYS HOCKEY

Silver Lake 9, Dartmouth 3: Shane Hackett scored his first two varsity goals for the Lakers (14-6-1) while Pat Murphy also had a two-goal day. Aidan Dunphy had a goal to go with four assists.

Newton South 4, Bridgewater-Raynham 2: The Trojans lost at home.

Cohasset/Hull 5, St. John Paul II 3: Luke Dunham scored a hat trick in the win.

Whitman-Hanson 7, Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth 0: Joe Culley scored two goals for the Panthers (10-9-1). Alex Ethier, Matt Solario, Zakk Spano, David Osis and Chris Ryan had solo tallies. Nolan Munroe recorded his first varsity shutout.

Hanover 3, North Quincy 2: The Hawks will play Scituate in the Gould Tournament Final on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Hobomock. North Quincy will play Pembroke at 2 p.m.

Bishop Stang 4, Middleboro 2: Sam Steinman scored both goals in the loss.

Westwood 4, Oliver Ames 2: The Tigers dropped the non-league game.

Scituate 3, Pembroke 0: Will Chatterton scored two goals as the Sailors advance to the Gould Tournament final to play Hanover on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Hobomock.

Weymouth 4, Bishop Fenwick 0: The Wildcats won on Senior Night.

Abington 3, Ashland 2 (OT): Hunter Grafton scored the overtime winner and Spencer Merrick made 34 saves for the Green Wave.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Hanover 4, Quincy/North Quincy 2: The Hawks won in the opening round of the Gould Tournament. QNQ will play Scituate in the consolation game on Wednesday at noon at Hobomock. Hanover will play Pembroke in the final at 4 p.m.

Norwell 3, Newburyport 3: Newburyport won in a shootout in the first round of the Newburyport Bank Classic. Maddie McDonald, Penny Saich and Lainey Burns scored in the loss.

St. Joe's 4, West Bridgewater/East Bridgewater 3 (OT): Emma Russo scored her first varsity goal in the loss. Abi Gropman (assist) and Keira Sweeney also found the back of the net.

Pembroke 8, Scituate 2: Jennifer Birolini scored four goals as the Titans clinched the Patriot League Fisher Division title. Maria Cantino scored two goals. Mary Quatrale and Elizabeth Gallagher (first varsity) also scored one goal apiece.

Canton 2, Algonquin 1: Anna Lehan and Abby Brogan scored in the win as the Bulldogs won the rematch of last year's Div. 2 state final. Goalkeeper Carolyn Durand also played well.
