High school roundup: Lopes strikes out 9 to lift Upper Cape softball to victory
SOFTBALL:
Taysia Lopes had five strong innings in the circle for the Rams as she struck out nine and allowed only one run as they beat the Rising Tide Herons 15-1 in softball action on Wednesday.
Offensively, the Rams jumped on top early with a six-run first inning with Maggie DiPasquale, Heather Cormier and Richelle Zine each recording RBI hits.
Apponequet 15, Bourne 8: Bourne took the loss Wednesday to drop to 5-11.
Monomoy 12, Falmouth 0: The Sharks beat the Clippers to move to 16-2.
Sturgis East 23, Nauset 0: The Storm (13-1) got the victory over the Warriors.
Cohasset/Hull 12, Dennis-Yarmouth 11: The Dolphins dropped to 11-7 after losing a close one to Cohasset/Hull.
BASEBALL:
Monomoy 12, Cape Tech 1: The Sharks easily beat the Rams to improve to 12-6.
Barnstable 8, Whitman-Hanson Reg. 3: The Red Hawks improved to 9-7 after beating Whitman-Hanson Reg.
Dennis-Yarmouth 6, Sturgis East 2: The Dolphins advanced to 5-13 after beating the Storm.
Sandwich 4, Marshfield 3: The Blue Knights got the victory over Marshfield to improve to 12-6.
Cohasset 4, Mashpee 0: Mashpee dropped to 12-9-1 after losing to Cohasset.
Nauset 5, Plymouth South 3: The Warriors beat Plymouth South to move to 13-6.
Apponequet 2, Bourne 1: The Canalmen lost a pitcher's duel and fell to 10-7.
GIRLS LACROSSE:
Nantucket 15, Sturgis East 2: The Whalers cruised to the victory over the Storm to improve to 12-3.
Martha’s Vineyard 12, Bristol Plymouth 1: The Vineyarders played well to secure the win and improve to 2-11.
Apponequet 17, Bourne 10. Bourne battled hard but fell to Apponequet and its record is now 7-8.
BOYS LACROSSE:
Upper Cape 17, Bishop Connolly 1: Noah Demoranville, Keno Glenn and Ryan Hanson each finished with a hat trick for the Rams as they cruised to victory over the Cougars. Cole Muttart, Jay Hopwood, Aidan Webb, David Lally, Jacob Earle and Jaden Barton each scored for Upper Cape (8-10-0).
Mashpee 19, Falmouth Academy 13: Jack Howard had 11 goals and three assists for the Falcons in a win over the Mariners. Owen Balfour finished with six goals and six assists, Dominic Matteodo had a goal and dished out six assists, Jack Stone ended with a goal and four assists, Kayden Eaton had 20 saves and Hunter Bohnenberger, Maxx Smith and Vinny Pinnetti all played well for Mashpee (11-5-0).
Apponequet 21, Bourne 4: The Canalmen lost to the Lakers and fall to 4-11-0.
Southeastern 8, Cape Tech 5: The Hawks beat the Crusaders and go to 4-11-0.
GIRLS TENNIS:
Cohasset 5, Mashpee 0: The Falcons were swept by the Skippers and dropped to 3-11.
Sturgis West 3, Nantucket 2: The Navigators beat the Whalers to improve to 11-2, and Nantucket dropped to 4-5.
BOYS TENNIS:
Nauset 3, Monomoy 2: The Warriors beat the Sharks to improve to 14-4, while Monomoy drops to 15-3.
Cohasset 5, Mashpee 0: The Falcons were swept by the Skippers and fell to 3-8.
