HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Martha's Vineyard boys basketball wins seventh straight

Matheus Rodrigues finished with a double-double (18 points, 15 rebounds) for the Martha's Vineyard boys basketball in a 70-54 win over Nauset on Saturday.

Nate Story scored 18 points, Sam Kane hit four 3-pointers to finish with 16 points and Josh Lake added 6 points and 12 boards.

Cam Napior contributed on defense with 4 steals for Martha's Vineyard (11-1).

Carlos Aguilar led Nantucket (5-6) with 15 points and Jayquan Francis added 12 points. Jack Halik had 9 points.

Cape Cod Academy 64, Nauset 55: Trey Merritt finished with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the Seahawks as they beat the Warriors at TD Garden. Mike Berry added 13 points and 6 rebounds for Cape Cod Academy (6-6).

Upper Cape 52, Cape Tech 45: The Rams (7-4) have won four of their last five with a win over the Crusaders (8-2).

Sandwich 5, Martha’s Vineyard 0: After both teams were scoreless after the second period, the Blue Knights scored five goals in the final period. Darby Rounseville, Casey Pestilli, Adrianna Kelsch, Meghan Barrett, and Olivia O'Brien each scored a goal for Sandwich (9-2-0). Martha's Vineyard is 4-4-2.

Falmouth 2, Barnstable 1: Riley Devlin scored both goals for the Clippers (7-1-3) as they remain unbeaten with a win over the Red Hawks (6-4-1).

Cape Cod Furies 9, Nantucket 1: The Furies (7-5-1) have won two of the last three with a win over the Whalers (0-7-0).

Bishop Stang 7, D-Y/CCA/JPII 3: The Dennis-Yarmouth/Cape Cod Academy/St. John Paul II (1-10) lost its ninth straight.

Sandwich 2, Pembroke 1: Mitch Norkevicius had 15 saves for the Blue Knights in a win over the Titans. Colin McIver and Brayden Ramsey each scored a goal for Sandwich (7-3-1).

Martha’s Vineyard 37, Nantucket 28: Maria Andrade scored 10 points for the Vineyarders. Delilah Oliver had 9 points, and CJ Walsh pulled down 14 rebounds to go with 6 points for Martha's Vineyard (3-6). Madie Lombardi scored 11 for Nantucket (2-7).

The Dennis-Yarmouth girls team placed 18th at the MSTCA Division 5 James Kalperis Relays. In the 4x800m relay, Olivia Pendleton (2:40.2), Rose Karow (2:31.2), Megan McDowell (2:36.1) and Maddie Weber (2:44.6) finished fifth out of 22 teams in 10:33.79.

For the 1,600m sprint medley (200-200-400-800), Ronique McFarlane (27.5), Jenna Richards (32.2), Breanna Braham (61.1), and Rose Karow (2:34.1) finished fifth out of 43 teams in 4:38.04.

Girls Swim & Dive

Nantucket 132, Martha's Vineyard 22: For the Whalers, Hannah Harrington won the 500 yard Ffreestyle in 5:54.51 and the 200 yard freestyle in 2:14.96. Hannah Gerardi won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.14), and the 200 yard IM (2:26.09). Myah Johnson finished first in the 50 yard freestyle in 26.22, and in the 100 yard freestyle in 1:00.00.

Boys Swim & Dive

Martha's Vineyard 72, Nantucket 57: The Vineyarders beat the Whalers in a close contest. Eli MacIver placed first in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:47.97, and the 200 Yard IM in 2:20.92 for the Whalers.

Wrestling

Sandwich placed first in the girls division and eighth in the high school division at the Cape Cod Invitational Tourney. Alana Raygoza (2nd), Lydia Brum (3rd), Luke Steele (3rd), Matt Bloom (4th) and Henry Mawinney (4th) all placed for the Blue Knights.
