HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Martha's Vineyard boys hops clinch league title

Matheus Rodrigues had a monster double-double with 27 points and 18 rebounds for the Martha's Vineyard boys basketball team in a 65-54 win over Monomoy to clinch the Cape & Islands title and the Vineyarders' 10th straight win.

Nate Story had 12 points, Kaio DaSilva scored 8 points, and Josh Lake filled the stat sheet and contributed 7 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists for Martha's Vineyard (14-1).

Jackson Rocco led the way with 17 points, Braden Burke chipped in with 11 points, and Jeff Kimball played well in the paint with 9 points and 9 boards for Monomoy (4-10).

Milford 82, Barnstable 59: The Red Hawks (6-10) lost their second straight.

Boys Ice Hockey

Sandwich 5, Bourne 0: Colin McIver had three assists for the Blue Knights as they shut out the Canalmen (7-8-0) to retain the Canal Cup. Jack Connolly scored twice, and James Mawhinney, Harrison Delman, and Chris Cardillo each found the back of the net once for Sandwich (12-3-1).

Falmouth 6, D-Y/CCT/CCA 1: Matt Quinlan and Brady Turner each scored twice for the Clippers in a win over Dennis-Yarmouth/Cape Tech/Cape Cod Academy. Travis Smith and Matt Briggs each added a goal for Falmouth (8-7-0). Cam Dupee scored the lone goal with an assist from Luke Spinner for DY/CCT/CCA (9-7-1).

Monomoy/Mashpee 8, Greater New Bedford 4: The Monarchs (3-10-1) won their second straight for the first time this season.

Nantucket 5, Martha’s Vineyard 0: The Whalers (8-4-0) have won six in a row and eight of their last nine with their shutout win over the Vineyarders (10-4-0).

Diman/Durfee 7, Upper Cape 1: The Rams (3-10-0) drop their second straight.

Arlington Catholic 6, Barnstable 1: The Red Hawks (7-6-1) have lost two of their last three.

Girls Ice Hockey

Sandwich 0, Barnstable 0: The Blue Knights (10-4-1) had their first tie of the season. Codi Pickering finished with 38 saves for Barnstable (8-6-1).

King Philip 9, D-Y/CCA/JPII 2: The team of Dennis-Yarmouth/Cape Cod Academy/St. John Paul II lost their 14th straight. Kourtney David scored the first goal with an assist from Riley Caruso for D-Y/CCA/JPII (1-15-0).

Falmouth 7, Nantucket 1: The Clippers (10-1-3) still have not lost in 2023, and have won five straight with the win over the Whalers (0-12-0).

ORR-BMW 10, Stoughton 1: The co-op team of Old Rochester/Bourne/Mashpee/Wareham (7-10-1) have won four of its last five.
