HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Mashpee baseball reaches milestone with win

The Mashpee High baseball team made history on Wednesday.

A 6-1 win over Carver not only marked the Falcons' fourth win of the season, it was also the program's 300th win of all time.

Robert Ryder was the hero in Wednesday's win. He pitched a complete game as he scattered 5 hits, struck out 2 and allowed a walk. He added 2 hits from the plate for Mashpee (4-2).

Preston Joia and Rylan Edmonds played well on defense for the Falcons. Mashpee will have to wait a little bit for win No. 301. The Falcons are off until an April 24gamd against Mashpee.

Baseball

Barnstable 10, Martha’s Vineyard 2: After losing their first game of the season, the Red Hawks (3-1) have now won three in a row with a win over the Vineyarders (2-2).

Monomoy 5, St. John Paul II 2: Finn Hyora picked up his second win of the season as he pitched a complete game allowing 2 runs, scattering 4 hits, and striking out 5 for the Sharks as they beat the Lions (0-4).

Mikah Krystofolski led the offense with 2 hits and 2 RBIs, while Charlie Seif had 2 hits for Monomoy (2-3).

Sandwich 5, Nauset 1: Jeremy Angeles pitched a complete game and scattered 5 hits for the win, and added 2 hits and 2 RBIs for the Blue Knights. Mitch Norkevicius also contributed 2 hits and 2 RBIs for Sandwich (3-1).

Rising Tide 13, Nantucket 5: The Whalers (0-2) dropped their second straight game.

Falmouth 9, Dennis-Yarmouth 6: The Clippers (2-1) have won two in a row after losing their season opener with the victory over the Dolphins (2-3).

Softball

Falmouth 13, Dennis-Yarmouth 2: On the mound, Anna Velesig pitched 7 innings, struck out 7, and allowed 5 hits for the Clippers. She went 3-for-5 at the plate, scored 2 runs, and added an RBI.

Katie Medeiros led the hitting for Falmouth (1-3) as she went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, 3 runs scored, and 3 RBIs. Molly Belfiore was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Anna Bennett finished 2-for-4 with a double, 3 runs and an RBI.

Nauset 4, Sandwich 3: Ava Doyle doubled in the winning run for the Warriors. Jillian Parrott tripled in 2 runs in the sixth inning, and Kaylee Davis got her third win on the mound for Nauset (3-1).

Cece Donovan had 8 strikeouts for Sandwich (3-2)

Carver 21, Mashpee 4: The Falcons (1-6) dropped their fifth straight game.

Rising Tide 19, Nantucket 18: The Whalers (0-4) fell just short of their first win of the season.

Monomoy 17, Barnstable 0: The Sharks (2-3) handed the Red Hawks (3-2) their second loss of the season with a shutout victory.

Boys Lacrosse

Bourne 10, Fairhaven 7: Shea Ullo led the Canalmen with 7 goals and 2 assists. Ryan Haden added 2 goals and 3 assists, Sean Kelly had a goal and an assist, and Max Beals finished in net with 24 saves.

HulI 13, Mashpee 3: Jesse Hickey scored twice, and Maxx Smith scored a goal for the Falcons in the loss. Mark Valois had 7 saves for Mashpee (0-5).

Girls Lacrosse

Fairhaven 13, Bourne 7: After winning their first game, the Canalmen (1-3) have now lost three in a row.

Boys Tennis

Falmouth 3, Dennis-Yarmouth 2: Jack Dunn beat Colin Caron in second singles (6-0, 6-2), and Sam Collins beat Max Mingo (4-6, 6-4, 6-0) in third singles to help lead the Clippers to a win.

Quintin Hefferan and Dheer Brahmbhatt won first doubles (7-6, 6-2) over Keegan McFarlane and Aidan Karras for Falmouth (1-1).

Oscar Turek won his first career match as he beat Thomas Ghossein (3-6, 6-4, 10-5) in first singles for Dennis-Yarmouth (0-2).

Monomoy 3, Sturgis 2: Ryan Casey defeated Mike Olson (6-3, 6-1) in first singles, Vidan Vujosevic defeated Ben Bass (6-4, 6-2) in second singles, and Gavin McDonnell defeated Francisco Garcia Raya (7-6 (7-2), 7-5) in third singles for the Sharks (6-1) singles sweep.

Colby Hall and Ben Halunen defeated Connor Francis and Ethan Seufert (6-2, 6-4) in first doubles, and Robert Muhov and Tom Nutbrown defeated Liam Jordan and Blake Noonan (6-2, 7-5) in second doubles for the doubles sweep for Sturgis (3-2).

Nauset 4, Sandwich 1: Murphy McCleary and Malcolm Stuart beat Andrew Chanay and Kallen Kestenbaum (6-0, 6-1) in first doubles, and Conner Pike and Tom Foley defeated Joey LaScola and Quinn Johnston (6-1, 6-0) for the Warriors doubles sweep.

Rufus McCleary defeated Andrew Emmel (5-7, 6-2, 10-3) in first singles, and Will Murphy beat Liam McLaughlin (6-1, 6-4) for Nauset (4-0).

Pablo Gonzalez defeated Salvi Cacciola (6-0, 6-3) for Sandwich (1-4).

Martha’s Vineyard 3, Barnstable 0: The Vineyarders (2-0) remain unbeaten with the sweep over the Red Hawks (3-2).

Girls Tennis

St. John Paul II 5, Nantucket 0: After winning the first set 6-3, Rosanna Sullivan beat Joan Harris of the Whalers (1-4) in a seven-point tiebreaker in first singles to start the scoring for the Lions. Lily Walker beat Lauren Cutone (6-0, 6-1) in second singles and Grace Walker defeated Hannah Gerardi in third singles (6-0, 6-2) for JPII (6-0).

For doubles, Bridget Moran and Kayla Katziff won (6-1, 6-2) over Julia Swietlik and Chloe Marrero in first doubles and Emily Desruisseaux and Sophia Martins beat Lydia Johnson and Sara Dussault (6-0, 6-1) in second doubles for JPII.

Falmouth 5, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: Caroline Moskal won over Tristin Bradford (6-0, 6-2), Genevieve Maranchie beat Kelsang Gurung (6-0, 6-0) in second singles, and Rachel Larsen defeated Elianna Shirley (6-1, 6-1) in third singles for the Clippers singles sweep over the Dolphins (0-3).

Alexis Christian and Maia Ledwell beat Maddy Burgess and Sophia Suarez (6-0, 6-0), and Sadie Inman and Charlotte Bridges defeated Sienna Grace Easy and Willania Thompson (6-2, 6-1).

Monomoy 3, Sturgis East 2: Hanadi Rezk and Alyson Morris defeated Bethany Whitten and Brooke Gardiner (6-3, 6-2) in first doubles, and Cassidy Parker and Darcy Addison beat Eli Mariak Matejah  (6-1, 6-4) and won second doubles for the Sharks win.

Jocelyn White defeated Martina Garcia Roya (6-0, 7-5) in second singles for Monomoy (5-2).

Ella Sarini defeated Lilly Gould (6-3, 6-2) in first singles, and Sydney Foronetta beat Sarah Poskanzer (7-6, 6-4) in third singles for Sturgis East (1-3).

Nauset 5, Sandwich 0: Nicole Boyce defeated Grace Rothera  (6-0, 6-1) in first singles, Lela Bailey defeated Kaity Landry (4-6, 6-4, 7-5) in second singles, and Anjali O'Brien beat Kallie Tompkins (6-3, 6-4) in third singles for the Warriors.

Cristin Schadt and Jill Ernstsrom defeated Arianna Tedeschi and Chloe Cahoon (6-1, 6-1) in first doubles, and Katie Ray O'Reilly and Mia Carroll beat Raighan Howard and Tenly Rothera (6-2, 6-4) in second doubles for Nauset (3-1).

Mashpee 3, Rising Tide 2: The Falcons (1-2) picked up their first win of the season.

Martha’s Vineyard 4, Barnstable 1: The Vineyarders (1-1) won their first match of the season with a win over the Red Hawks (1-3).

Girls Golf

Monomoy 5, Barnstable 1: Ava Packett (1up), Yu Ying Zou (2up), Ava Larocco (5&3), Orla Delaney (5&3), and Ashley Anderson (5&4) each picked up a point for Monomoy (5-0) to help them remain unbeaten at Cranberry Valley.

Briah Valman scored the lone point for Barnstable (0-2).

Bishop Feehan 5, Falmouth 1: The Clippers (0-4) lost their fourth straight.

Boys Volleyball

Durfee 3, Barnstable 2: The Red Hawks could not complete the comeback after being down two sets and fell short in five sets (14-25, 21-25, 25-21, 29-27, 11-15).

Nikolas Brancaccio had 17 kills and 3 aces, Brendan DaSilva added 6 kills, Brady Kundel finished with 10 kills, Logan Parent contributed 4 kills, and Hunter Parents had 33 assists for Barnstable (1-3).

Track & Field

Barnstable 99, Sturgis 35: The Red Hawks won 13 of the 16 events to move to 2-1 on the season.  Ava Bullock broke the sophomore class record in the two-mile, finishing first in 5:22.2.  Bullock also won the high jump, leaping 4'6". Freshman Caitlin Ward led the team in scoring for the second straight meet, winning the triple jump (28'10, 100-13.3, and 200-28.2), and placing second in the long jump (12'10").

Senior Lillie Ells was a double winner for in the shot put (26'10) and the javelin (98'1"). She also led off the winning 4x100 relay team. Other winners for the Red Hawks were Joslin Cabral (discus-87'1", 4x100), Lilly DeDecko (2-mile-11:50.8), Chloe Dibb (800-2:28.4, 4x400 relay), and Lylah Crawley (100 Hurdles-19.5).

Dual Meet: Monomoy 99, Riverview 20; Monomoy 66, Martha’s Vineyard 56; Martha’s Vineyard 75, Riverview 23: Junior Greg Pritchard won the 200m (24.57) to set a school record for the Helmsman, and placed second in the long jump with a 18’ leap for Riverview. Sophomore Andrew McClellan won the two mile for Riverview as well.

Junior Juliet Elsesser would lower her school record for Riverview in the girls 200m (31.24) for third place. Ava Carey won the 400m hurdles and placed third in the 800m for Riverview.
