Senior captain Teddy Massingham and the Duxbury High baseball team haven't had the best of luck this spring.

But on Wednesday, all the pieces fell into place for one rainy day.

Massingham threw a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks as the Green Dragons beat Pembroke at home, 7-0.

Junior Nick Ayers hit his third home run of the season and drove in four runs for Duxbury (4-10). That was more than enough cushion on a day when Massingham was untouchable.

"He's such a hard worker," Duxbury coach Brandon Josselyn said of his ace. "He's quiet. But he's an unquestioned leader. Going into the game he was 1-2 and that seems crazy knowing how good he is. For him to even up his record and to do it in a way that created a memory for the rest of his life, that's pretty special."

Josselyn was hoping to have a deep starting rotation this season, but senior Chris Walsh hasn't been able to pitch due to elbow problems and another projected starter didn't come out for the team.

"Coming into the season we thought our pitching might be in a little better shape," Josselyn said, "but Teddy's been the one kid who's been there day in and day out. When he's on the mound we know we're going to be in the game, which is good. This has been kind of a rebuild (season), so to have a senior kind of stand out and do well on the mound for us is really instrumental for us."

Walsh, playing shortstop, preserved the no-hitter with a fine barehanded play to notch the second out of the seventh inning.

"The ball was wet; it was raining out," Josselyn said. "That was an unbelievable play, the best play I've seen anybody make all season. But not surprising with Chris Walsh. He's really a special athlete."

Massingham, also the team's leading hitter, finished off the gem with his last strikeout.

"He had a good curveball working today," the coach said. "He was able to locate his fastball -- inside, outside, upstairs and downstairs. That was how he did it. He has three pitches and he never once threw a changeup. All fastballs, curveballs today."
