High school roundup: Nauset edges out Sandwich, Daniels scores 21 points

Logan Murphy scored a game-high of 39 points for Sandwich but it wasn't enough to carry his team to victory against Nauset, which edged out the Blue Knights 76-72 in high school basketball action on Friday.

Kaleb Daniels finished with a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors. Jeff McCarthy scored 26 assists and dished out 7 assists, Mikey Gray had 14 points, Dillon White added 9 points, Riley Holmes tallied on 4 points and Nico Harrington had 2 points for Nauset (4-2).

Tim Souza finished with 11 points, Sean Lansing followed up with 9 points and Cameron O'Mally added 6 points for Sandwich (4-5).

Nantucket 56, Monomoy 29: Justin Bloise finished with 12 points for the Whalers in a win over the Sharks. JD Heneke hit 3 three-pointers and ended with 10 points, Jayquan Francis and Jack Halik each had 9 points, Makai Bodden added 8 points, JJ Bennett scored 4 points, KC Holdgate made a three-pointer, and Karson Wellington had a free-throw for Nantucket (7-1).

Michael Rocco 10 scored points, Finn Hyora had 7 points, Chandler Cheron followed up with 6 points, and Jackson Rocco added 4 points for Monomoy (3-6).

Cape Cod Academy 87, Martha’s Vineyard 54: Jaeden Greenleaf scored 39 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had 4 steals for the Seahawks as they beat the Vineyarders. Kelvin Danforth finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, Trey Merritt ended with 11 points and 7 assists and Tamarr Washington dished out 9 assists (8-0). Nate Storey led with 12 points and Matheus Rodrigues and Geo Meikle each had 10 points for Martha's Vineyard (2-6).

St. John Paul II 47, Falmouth Academy 33: Zane Thomas scored 9 points and added 12 rebounds for the Lions as they beat the Mariners. Rich Marchand had 8 points, Mickey Van Neste finished with 10 points and 2 rebounds, Ryan Triveri had 12 points, Matt Garrett grabbed 10 rebounds, Teddy Cordeiro ended with 4 points and 6 rebounds and Quinn Mayo had 7 rebounds for JPII (5-3). Nate Holmes scored 17 points and Cody Feldott and Drew Reeves each had 5 points for Falmouth Academy (2-4).

Cohasset 57, Mashpee 34: Brady Johnston and Jack Spencer each scored 8 points for the Falcons, but they fell to the Skippers. Otis Longman finished with 7 points and Sean Fancher followed up with 6 points for Mashpee (3-3).

Girls Basketball

Monomoy 51, Nantucket 22: Helen DiGiovanni led the scoring with 8 points and 9 rebounds, Lucy Mawn finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists, Melissa Velasquez had 7 points and 4 rebounds, Kiki Pigo–Cronin ended with 12 points and 4 steals and Tatiana Malone added 6 points and 7 rebounds for Monomoy (4-4).

St. John Paul II 52, Falmouth Academy 15: Devin Crofford scored 19 points for the Lions in a win over the Mariners. Maggie Crofford and Ella Chebey each finished with 9 points and Kendal O'Brien added 7 points for JPII (6-3).

Sturgis East 45, Sturgis West 13: Claire Komar had 15 points for the Storm in a win over the Navigators in a division matchup. Sophie Ralston scored 11 points, Poppy Randall followed up with 10 points and Kerry-Anne Krueger and Sage Corllner played well on defense for Stugirs East (2-5), who led 22-4 at halftime. Megan Kelly scored 7 points for Sturgis West (0-5).

Cohasset 62, Mashpee 43: Amiyah Peters scored 19 points for the Falcons but it was not enough as they lost their first game of the season to the Skippers. Hialeah Turner-Foster added 16 points for Mashpee (4-1).

Bourne 45, Somerset Berkley 40: Nora Barmashi scored 11 points for the Canalmen as they beat the Raiders. Paige Meda finished with 8 points, Grace Gobeil followed up with 7 points and Emma Bourgault and Brooke Lunedei played well on defense for Bourne (8-2).
