HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Quincy girls volleyball denies Whitman-Hanson's comeback bid

The Whitman-Hanson High girls volleyball team couldn't dig all the way out of an 0-2 hole.

Host Quincy won the first two sets, 25-12, 25-11, then dropped the next two, 25-22, 25-23, before regrouping to win the final set, 15-7, to post a 3-2 Patriot League win over the Panthers on Wednesday.

The Presidents (9-4) had 19 aces, 44 kills on 37 assists, and 78 digs as a team.

Senior captains Ruby Scriven and Caitlin Leahy and junior libero Alyssa Barbato played well for W-H (8-5, 6-5).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

North Quincy 3, Silver Lake 1: Ava Bryan (8 kills), Kayla Lew (5 kills), Olivia Bailey (13 assists) and Zixian Situ (12 digs) led NQ (12-1) to a 22-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-13 win. The Raiders had 25 aces total.

South Shore Tech 3, Upper Cape 0: Gemma Geisler had 6 kills and served 27 for 28 with 8 aces for the Vikings (10-0). Zoey Bradshaw had 8 kills, and Mia Bradshaw served 14 for 14. Taylor Lines went on a 7-point serving run in the third set.

Hingham 3, Pembroke 1: Kaitlyn Truong and Meghan Keonan led the Harborwomen (8-4) to a 25-14, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17 home win.

Plymouth North 3, Scituate 0: The Blue Eagles (6-5) beat the Sailors (5-7) in Patriot League action, 25-20, 25-20, 25-14.

West Bridgewater 3, Holbrook 0: The Wildcats (9-2) topped the Bulldogs (3-7) in Mayflower Athletic Conference action.

BOYS SOCCER

Oliver Ames 8, Foxboro 0: Andrew Martins had his first career hat trick, plus an assist, bringing his season totals to 11 goals and 3 assists, as the visiting Tigers (8-0-2) wrapped up a playoff berth. Casey Milliken (2 goals, 2 assists for his third straight 4-point game), Mirry DaSilva (2 goals), Ryan Linhares (goal, assist) and Mikey Morias (first 2 career assists) also starred. Jackson Mercieri, Diego Riveira, Hector Bucio and Jake Williams played well for OA in the back, and goalkeeper Drew Hall recorded his sixth shutout of the season.

Hingham 7, Plymouth South 0: Cole Sampson scored twice, and the Harbormen (6-0-3) got single goals from Nolan Clark, Chris Connelly, Nick Oravitz, Alessandro Neyra and Griffin Coppola.

Whitman-Hanson 2, Scituate 1: Evan Gillespie and Andrew Chichlowski scored for the Panthers (3-6, 2-6 Patriot League). Goalkeeper Dillon Galanis saved a late penalty kick to preserve the win. Jack Navicky had a strong game at center midfield.

West Bridgewater 2, Rockland 1: Ryan Estrella and Ben Fuller each had a goal and an assists, and goalkeeper Nick Navin had a strong game as the Wildcats (6-2-2) edged the Bulldogs (8-2-1) in a non-league game.

Northeast Metro Votech 4, Cardinal Spellman 2: Hayden Richard (first career goal) and Nate Monteiro (assisted by Daniel Loura) scored for the Cardinals in the loss.

Plymouth North 4, North Quincy 1: Lucas Magalhaes, Ben Young and Bradlee Sorensen each had a goal and an assist for North. Kevin Riley also played well.

Marshfield 2, Hanover 0: The Rams (5-2-1) blanked the Hawks (5-4-2) in Patriot League action.

GIRLS SOCCER

Cardinal Spellman 3, East Bridgewater 0: Caroline Bligh, Kaci Belmont (assisted by Emma Pero) and Marina Duffy scored for the Cardinals (6-1-2). Goalkeeper Taylor Dolan made 13 saves in the shutout.

Silver Lake 5, Pembroke 3: Senior Caileigh Jensen scored the winning goal midway through the second half as the visiting Lakers (3-2-4, 3-2-3 Patriot League) rallied from a 3-1 deficit. Shea Kelleher scored twice, and Kendyl Peterson and Paige Dudley added goals.

Hanover 2, Marshfield 1: The Hawks (8-1-1) rallied in the second half on goals by Ayla McDermod (assisted by Eva Kelliher) and Sophia Foley. Mia Pongratz and Natalie Mutschler split time in goal for Hanover.

Hingham 7, Plymouth South 0: Sophie Reale had a hat trick, and Emily Gibbons and Claire Murray each scored twice for the host Harborwomen (9-0-2).

Whitman Hanson 1, Scituate 1: Elizabeth Kowlski scored, and goalkeepers Ayla Dernier and Ava Patete split time in the nets for W-H (3-4-3).

BOYS GOLF

Scituate 264, Pembroke 268: At Pembroke Country Club, the Sailors (13-2, 11-2 Patriot League) were led by Andrew Belsan (42), Zach Fernandes (43), Isaac Breitenstein (44), Tommy McMellen (44) and Meyer Gack (45).

Hanover 255, North Quincy 278: Chris Doherty shot 1-over-par 37, and Ben Cataldo carded a 5-over 41 to lead the Hawks (9-3). Aiden Bridges and John Rogers each shot 45 for NQ.

Hingham 256, Whitman-Hanson 281: The Harbormen topped the Panthers in Patriot League action.

Archbishop Williams 221, St. Joseph Prep 101: Andrew Marcotte and Aaron McCarthy each shot 1-under 34 at Newton Commonwealth Golf Course to lead the Bishops (11-4).

FIELD HOCKEY
