HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Quincy girls volleyball tops Brockton on road

The Quincy High girls volleyball team won its season opener, 3-0, at Brockton High on Wednesday.

The Presidents had 12 aces, 31 kills, 4 blocks and 28 digs as a team in the 25-18, 25-22, 25-13 victory.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Holbrook 3, Blue Hills 0: Mary Walker had 13 assists and 15 service points with 4 aces as the Bulldogs won, 25-22, 25-10, 25-21. Also starring for Holbrook: Jomelle Komeau (8 kills, 3 blocks, 2 assists), Alyssa Slamin (7 kills, 2 assists, 6 service points) and Kai Forbes (5 kills, 11 service points with 5 aces).

South Shore Tech 3, Bristol-Plymouth 0: Outside hitter Hannah Nota had 16 kills to lead the host Vikings to a season-opening 25-15, 25-15, 25-11 win. Senior captain Gemma Geisler had 9 kills and went 23-of-25 on the serving line. Setter Mia Bradshaw served 14-of-14 and had 35 assists, and middle hitter Zoey Bradshaw served 8-of-8.

Franklin 3, Oliver Ames 0: Sophomore Clare Kavoulis had 17 assists in her first varsity match, but OA lost, 25-18, 25-21, 25-10, on the road. Other standouts for the Tigers: senior Maddie Homer (14 digs, 13 receptions), junior Sarah Hilliard (9 kills) and senior Courtney Raymond (4 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces).

North Quincy 3, Notre Dame Academy 0: The Raiders topped the Cougars, 25-15, 27-25, 25-22.

BOYS SOCCER

Pembroke 3, Cohasset 0: Senior captain Ethan Sullivan's first-half hat trick lifted the Titans to a season-opening, non-league win. Senior captain Declan Crowley had 3 assists. Senior goalkeeper Jack Taylor posted the clean sheet, thanks a solid game from the back line of Owen Kane, Joe D’Angelo, Matt McAuliffe, Jack Duperre and Cam Reilly.

Rockland 4, Holbrook 0: Freshman Gabe DaSilva had a hat trick in his varsity debut for Rockland in the season opener. Sophomore Jake Asplund added his first varsity goal. Goalkeeper Kellen Porter posted a clean sheet.

Braintree 1, Canton 0: Junior Pierce Julien scored in the second half to lift the Wamps to a season-opening road win. Sophomore Ryan Smith had the assist.

Randolph 4, Bristol-Plymouth 0: The Blue Devils won their opener behind goals from Jonas Norsica, Baldimy Joseph, Jeo Guevara and Richie Pierre Paul.

Duxbury 3, Quincy 2: The Green Dragons edged the Presidents in Patriot League action.

Hull 8, Rising Tide 0: Jack Burke exploded for five goals and two assists in the win. Rob Casagrande, Matt Angellis and Tony Alibrandi each had one goal apiece.

GIRLS SOCCER

Norwell 2, Hanover 2: The defending Div. 3 state champion Clippers played to a non-league draw at home in their season opener. Audrey Loring and Chloe Kirschner had Norwell's goals, and Belle Pettit made 5 saves.

Notre Dame Academy 4, Duxbury 3: Sydney Comeau scored all four goals for NDA, which overcame a 2-0 deficit. Maddy Greenstein, Beth Yucius and Megan Carney had Duxbury's goals.

Hingham 1, King Philip 1: Maddie Aughe scored for host Hingham in the season-opening, non-league draw.

North Quincy 1, Cambridge Rindge & Latin 0: The Raiders won a non-league matchup.

Abington 6, Holbrook 1: The Green Wave won a non-league matchup.

FIELD HOCKEY

Braintree 2, Needham 1: Callie Burchill scored with 5 seconds remaining in regulation as the host Wamps rallied for a win. Ella Woods had the other Braintree goal.

Marshfield 5, Whitman-Hanson 0: The visiting Rams got goals from seniors Lyla Hunter, Taylor Brilliant and Erin Boyd, junior Maegan Condon and sophomore Liv Audette. W-H got strong games from captain Paige Cosgrove, sophomore midfielder Lillie MacKinnon and junior back Maddy Geagan.

Hingham 4, Plymouth North 0: Haylen Wilson scored twice, and Stella Brazis and Lily Ehler added goals as the Harborwomen won their season opener. Abbey Kennedy was strong in midfield.

Carver 3, Norwell 1: Alli Thomas, Maddy Butler and Brooke Nielsen scored as the Crusaders won their season opener at home. Jessica Martin had a pair of assists, and Thomas, Jenna Newell, Izzy Mercer, Ashleigh Johnson and Natalie Waitkus had strong defensive games in front of goalie Ali Perry (4 saves). Junior Bella Burns scored for Norwell.

Cohasset 6, East Bridgewater 0: The Skippers won a South Shore League game.

BOYS GOLF

Duxbury 224, Plymouth South 266: The host Dragons won at Duxbury Country Club as senior captain Ryan Sherwood shot a 5-under-par 31 that featured 5 birdies and 4 pars. It was the lowest score recorded by a Duxbury player in recent memory. Devin Kenneally and Zach Hamilton each shot 37, and Henry Macquarrie carded a 38. For Plymouth South, Demetri Stego and Nolan Palmer each shot 41.

Scituate 254, Weymouth 280: The Sailors (1-1) prevailed at Widow's Walk as Zach Fernandes and Isaac Breitenstein both carded 42’s. Stephen Marshall and Joe Masuret each shot 43, and Andrew Belsan and Tom McMellen each shot 44.

Braintree 88, North Quincy 55: Nick Fasano shot 1-under 35 to lead the host Wamps to a season-opening win at Braintree Municipal Golf Course. Freshman Peter Brooks carded a 40.

Norwell 133, Abington 120: Senior captains Matt Dassatti (1-over 36) and Griffin Link (3-over 38) led Norwell (2-0) to victory at Strawberry Valley in Abington.

Blue Hills 5, Tri-County 4: Senior Chris Martin and junior Mike Repucci led the way for the Warriors in the Mayflower Athletic Conference match.

Oliver Ames 146, King Philip 151: Seniors Michael McGinnis and Daniel Paul each shot 36 to lead the Tigers (2-0) to a win at Pine Oaks. Juniors Lucas Riley and David Rodgers each shot 37.

Carver 105, Cohasset 94: The Crusaders won in Stableford scoring.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Walpole 23, Braintree 33: Senior Grace Baldwin placed third overall to lead Braintree. Other scorers for the Wamps: Catherine McPhee (4th), Abby Shalgian (6th), Grace Mitchell (9th) and Julianne Cavanaugh (11th).

Brookline 20, Weymouth 36: Gracie Richard placed fourth for Weymouth in 18:10. Other finishers for the Wildcats: Izzy Galusha (6th, 18:23), Meg Connolly (7th, 18:25) and Leah Galvin (8th, 18:31).

Bridgewater-Raynham wins: The Trojans won a multi-team meet at West Bridgewater with a low team score of 40, followed by Archbishop Williams (42), Stoughton (84), West Bridgewater (86) and Ursuline Academy (110). The top finishers for B-R were Camden Strandberg, Sydney O’Donnell, Brenna Woodbury, Nethica Auguste and Audrey Lambert.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Bridgewater-Raynham wins: The Trojans won a multi-team meet at West Bridgewater with a low score of 27. James Murray was the individual winner. Other top finishers for B-R were Jack Alves, Connor Donahue, Dan Leet and Joey Brand.
