HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Quincy/North Quincy girls hockey gets defensive in win

The Quincy/North Quincy high girls hockey team is known for its explosive offense.

Entering Saturday's game, QNQ was averaging over 5 goals per game. But it was the defense and goaltending the was the highlight in a 4-0 win over Hanover.

Hailey Concannon recorded her first career shutout in the win. Maggie Dineen, Morgan Novak, Caroline Snyder, Aislinn Folan and Emily Lim all played well defensively.

Of course, the potent offense was still there as Maddie Bailey (2 goals, assist) and Maggie Lynch (2 goals) both led the way on that end of the ice.

Braintree 2, Brookline 0: The Wamps won the Bay State battle.

Medway/Ashland 5, Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro 0: MOA dropped the non-league game.

Duxbury 7, Norwell 0: The Dragons won the non-league game.

Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake 5, Hingham 4 (OT): Shea Kelleher (2 goals, 3 assists) and Caitlin Dilley (2 goals, 2 assists) led the way for WHSL. Sadie Watchorn made a key save with 10 seconds remaining in regulation. Abbey Powers had a goal and an assist.

Medfield 1, Canton 0 (OT): Ellie Bohane played well in the overtime loss.

Milton 1, Framingham 1: Ellie McConville tied the game with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to help the Wildcats salvage a tie. Lila Chamoun played well in net.

Plymouth South/Plymouth North 4, Marshfield 0: Plymouth won the Patriot League game.

Weymouth 4, Newton North/South 0: The Wildcats won the Bay State battle as Wren Abboud tallied a highlight-reel goal.

BOYS HOCKEY

Braintree 5, Brookline 2: Garrett Coughlin (2 goals), Ryan Norton (goal, assist) and Danny Keegan (two assists) all had 2-point games as the Wamps (7-2-1, 6-0-1) remained undefeated in the Bay State Conference. Deni Tabuku and Kyle Hutchinson scored the other goals.

Weymouth 7, Newton North 4: Andrew Ferguson scored two goals in the win while James Flaherty added a goal and an assist. Ryan Lindblom and Ryan Quinlan scored their first varsity goals.

BC High 3, St. John's (Shrewsbury) 0: Ray Carabin made 24 saves in a shutout effort while Ryan Flaherty scored a goal and added two assists. Aidan McDonnell and Matt Cox scored the other goals.

South Shore Tech 6, Diman 6: The Vikings tied in the Mayflower League game.

Plymouth North 3, Pembroke 1: Kevin Norwood scored two goals and added an assist and Zach Cormier starred in net in the Blue Eagle win. Evan Hallissey had a goal and an assist. Brendan Abban scored in the loss while James Stone stopped 25 shots.

Duxbury 5, Whitman-Hanson 1: Tyler Walser scored two goals and Sam Mazanec was solid in net for the Dragons. Reilly Murry, Colin Hulett (first varsity goal) and Brady Glass each scored one goal. Joe Culley scored a goal in the loss.

Cohasset/Hull 5, Abington 0: Luke Cosentino picked up his first shutout of the season in the win. Robbie Casagrande scored two goals and had an assist. Hayden Manfredi, Luke Mullen and Luke Dunham had solo tallies.

Scituate 8, Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth 2: Will Chatterton, Jackson Belsan and Joe Cahill all tallied their first varsity goals in the win. Brendan Boyle scored two goals.

Hanover 5, Plymouth South 1: Thao Lanagan scored two goals for the Hawks. Max Dasilva, Nolan Faherty and Jack Watson had solo tallies in the win.

Blue Hills 4, Tri-County 1: The Warriors won the Mayflower League game.

Hingham 2, Central Catholic 1: Luke Merian made a save in the closing seconds to preserve the win. Ace Concannon tallied the winner and Aiden Brazel tallied the other goal.

Milton 3, Framingham 2: Declan Walsh scored the winning goal with 33 seconds remaining for the Wildcats. Jimmy Fallon (two assists) and Andrew Hunt had solo tallies and Jake Pelton made 24 saves. Owen Radley had two assists.

Marshfield 4, Silver Lake 1: Zephyr Jones earned the win in net while Nick Souretis scored a pair of goals. Ryland McGlame and Jack Croft added goals for the Rams. Markie Kelleher scored the lone goal for the Lakers.

Quincy 3, North Quincy 1: The Presidents won the Patriot League game as Cam Quigley, Timmy Kelly and Joe Hennessy scored goals.

Oliver Ames 5, Stoughton/Brockton 2: Elliot Cohen scored two goals in the first period to jumpstart the Tigers. Daniel Paul, Jack Corey and Matt Lawson added solo tallies.

Norwell 7, East Bridgewater/West Bridgewater 1: Garrett Fisher scored two goals in the win. Quinn Simmons, Nolan Petrucelli, Austin Shea, Kevin Leary and Declan Devin had solo tallies.

BOYS BASKETBALL

East Bridgewater 48, Mashpee 29: After losing to Randolph on Friday, the Vikings bounced back as Jackson Kenn had 17 points and 8 rebounds. Dylan Kaplinger added 10 points and 8 rebounds while Mick Benyue also played well.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Abington 58, Plymouth South 36: Ella Williamson led the way for the Green Wave with 22 points and 5 steals. Sarah Deveney was also in double digits with 10 points. Sophia Flanagan scored her first varsity points.

Thayer Academy 47, New Hampton 36: Claire McCarthy scored 21 points and Emma Dahl had her third double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) of the season.

WRESTLING

Whitman-Hanson quad meet: The Panthers (8-5) dropped matches to Bridgewater-Raynham (54-26), King Philip (48-30) and Sharon (36-34) in a meet on Saturday. Charlie Lussier, Aiden Guiliani and Braden Kain all went 3-0 on the day. The Trojans (12-3) went 2-1 on the day as a team. For B-R, Brent von Magnus, Lance Pepe, Jack Alves, Nathan Leach and Dominic Silvia won all three of their matches.

Cohasset Invitational: The Skippers placed third at the 30th Cohasset Invitational. Ben Ford won the 132-pound title and was chosen as the meet's Most Outstanding Wrestler. Christian Lewis (182) and Christian Lewis (138) also won championships. Scituate won the team championship.
