HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Rogers pitches Abington baseball past Carver in league matchup

Henry Rogers threw a complete-game four-hitter with six strikeouts Monday to lead the Abington High baseball team to a 4-2 home win over South Shore League rival Carver.

Spencer Merrick had a pair of hits with a run and an RBI for the Green Wave.

Abington was up, 3-0, heading into the top of the sixth inning. Carver scored twice to trim the lead, but Jon Sellon's RBI double in the bottom of the frame plated pinch runner Tyler Staiti for a key insurance run. Pat Cummings also had an RBI double.

Oliver Ames 3, Canton 2: The Tigers won a Hockomock League game as winning pitcher Andrew Zagami allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run over 6 innings with 7 strikeouts and Patrick Finnerty notched the save. Ryan Lemay (2 RBI), Jack Morley and Matt Lawson each had a double, and catcher Drew Hall delivered a sacrifice fly and threw out two runners in the seventh inning.

In OA's 11-7 loss to New Bedford on Saturday, Harrison Fitzpatrick was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Lemay (2 hits, double, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Finnerty (triple, run, RBI) also starred.

BC High 16, St. John’s Prep 2: Andrew Manning hit a 3-run home run to pace a 14-hit attack as the Eagles cruised to a road win. Winning pitcher Mason Lombard allowed 3 hits over 5 innings with 6 strikeouts.

Milton 3, Braintree 1: Jack Finnegan doubled and drove in all 3 runs for the Wildcats (10-0). Winning pitcher Scott Longo (3-0) threw a complete game with 7 strikeouts and a walk. Jimmy Fallon (hit by pitch, walk, run) and Owen McHugh (1-for-1, 2 walks, run) also contributed.

Weymouth 4, Walpole 3: Andrew Ferguson (3-for-3, double, 2 RBI) hit a walk-off home run in the seventh inning for the Wildcats. Sean Zaslaw struck out 10 over 6 innings, and Colin McPherson picked up the win in relief.

New Bedford 3, Brockton 1: Dom Hopkins threw 6 scoreless innings for the Boxers (5-3) in the loss.

Boston Latin Academy 2, Quincy 1: The Presidents (1-7) lost on the road.

Middleboro 7, East Bridgewater 1: The Sachems won a South Shore League game.

Foxboro 12, Stoughton 1: The Black Knights lost a Hockomock League game.

Sandwich 5, Pembroke 3: The Titans lost a non-league game at home.

Plymouth North 6, Nauset 4: The Blue Eagles rallied for a non-league road win.

Mashpee 11, Rockland 5: The Bulldogs lost a South Shore League game.

Mansfield 4, North Quincy 2: On Saturday, Kevin Pritchard had a strong game for NQ in the loss. He pitched 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs with 3 strikeouts, and had 2 hits, including a double, and an RBI. Vinny O’Leary (2 hits, double, run) and Max Gaudiano (RBI single, walk) also swung the bats well for the Raiders.

SOFTBALL

Middleboro 7, East Bridgewater 3: Maggie Schlossberg struck out 5 for EB in the loss, and Emily McNaught (2 runs) and Maddie Blette (RBI) each had a pair of hits.

Cardinal Spellman 9, Fontbonne Academy 4: Taylor Dolan (RBI) and Avery Barnes (2 RBI) each had 3 hits, and Lucy LaCara (2 RBI) added a pair for the Cardinals (6- 2). Winning pitcher Avery Barnes struck out 8 and gave up 5 hits. Fontbonne was led by Ava Donaghue (3 hits, double, 2 RBI) and Darcy LeFever (double, RBI).

Bridgewater Raynham 10, Dartmouth 0: Lily Welch pitched a 3-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and no walks as the Trojans (6-1) won their Southeast Conference opener. Welch (3 hits, 3 RBI), Ava Selter (home run, single, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Holly Clary (double, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Ky Hicks (double, run, RBI) starred at the plate.

Archbishop Williams 9, Abington 6: Regan Parr (2 runs, 2 RBIs), Jill Ondrick (2 RBIs) Shelby Parr (2 RBIs) all had two-hit days for the Bishops. Ondrick also struck out 13 batters. Brenna Howley, Maddie Perry and Bella Abrams each had an RBI for Abington (3-3).

Marshfield 15, Hanover 3: In the loss, Hanover (4-1) was led by Kaelyn Chase (2 hits, double), McKenzie Foley (triple) and Kate Baldinelli (double).

Pembroke 5, Falmouth 1: Millie Alexander was 3-for-3 for the Titans in the non-league road win. Maria Cantino, Emmy DiDomenico (stolen base, RBI) and Amanda Graham each went 2-for-4, and drove in a pair of runs. Winning pitcher Kelly McGee struck out 12.

Cohasset 7, North Quincy 6: Catherine Toomey homered to lead the Skippers (6-2) to a non-league home win.

Stoughton 7, Foxboro 6: The Black Knights won a Hockomock League game.

Sandwich 4, Norwell 3: The Clippers lost a non-league game.

New Bedford 17, Brockton 5: The Boxers lost on the road.

Braintree 4, Milton 1: Christina McA’Nulty was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run for Milton in the Bay State Conference loss. Ellie McConville added a double, and Abby Hunt allowed 2 earned runs over 6 innings.

BOYS LACROSSE

Whitman-Hanson 9, Silver Lake 8 (OT): Connor McCarthy set up his brother Gavin for the OT winner for the Panthers (3-4). Junior goaltender David MacNeil made 14 saves, and Jeff Gomes won 14 of 20 faceoffs for W-H, which got 2 goals each from Gavin McCarthy and Joe Concannon and one each from Connor McCarthy, Luke Tropeano, Joe Cully, Collin Murphy and Will Frazier.

Sharon 13, Oliver Ames 7: OA was led by Ben Reardon (3 goals, assist), Ryan Jaco (2 goals, assist) and Shaun Teehan (2 goals, assist).

Pembroke 15, Quincy/North Quincy 6: Brandon Perry and Brendan Kanya each had hat tricks for the Titans in the Patriot League win. Aidan Callahan, Stevie Johnson and Turner Gilmore each scored twice, and Nolan McGrath, Nate Holmes and Andrew Peck added goals.

East Bridgewater 11, Cardinal Spellman 10: Jake Shaw and Patrick Donahue paced the offense, and Brett Peterson won 80 percent of his faceoffs to power EB (4-1). Goalie Tom Lavalle made 15 saves and assisted on Nikos Triantafilou's goal. Spellman was led by Matt O'Donnell (6 goals, 2 assists) and D'Anthony Amado (goal, 4 assists).

Southeastern 10, Westport 5: Peyton Volz and Thomas Hustins each had 4 goals and an assist, and William Lannan added a hat trick and an assist for the Hawks.

Marshfield 10, Hanover 7: The Rams won a Patriot League game.

Duxbury 15, Plymouth South 6: The Dragons won a Patriot League game at home.

Hingham 9, Lincoln-Sudbury 8: On Saturday, Joe Hennessey scored 4 goals, and Nate Hoffman had a strong game in the net as the Harbormen (6-1) won the Coaches Cup for the first time since 2018.

Bridgewater-Raynham 10, Natick 8: On Saturday, B-R (4-3) won the consolation round of the Coaches Cup behind big games from Jayson Kelleher (3 goals, 2 assists) and Ryan McInnis (2 goals, assist).

Norwell 10, Westwood 4: On Saturday, the Clippers (5-2) claimed their first Chowda Cup tournament crown.

Abington 20, Milton 12: On Saturday, Hunter Grafton (10 goals, 4 assists) led the Green Wave to a non-league win.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Hull 12, Abington 7: Georgia Carragher and goalie Ava Russo (9 saves) led the Pirates to a South Shore League win. In the loss, Natalie Van Luling had a hat trick for the second game in a row for the Green Wave, which also got goals from Rebecca Rix (2), Molly Joyce and Caitlin Happel.

Canton 16, Taunton 3: Eight different players scored for the Bulldogs, including Kayleigh Koen and Lauren Shatkin, who each scored their first two varsity goals. Goalie Olivia McCabe made 6 saves in her varsity debut.

Cardinal Spellman 15, Fontbonne Academy 7: Erin O'Donnell and Elle Murphy each scored 5 goals, and Marina Duffy added a hat trick and 5 assists for the Cardinals (3-3).

Duxbury 19, Plymouth South 3: Ellie Wall, Sydney Ecker and Martine Van Aarem all had hat tricks for the Dragons (7-1).

Pembroke 10, North Quincy 7: Olivia Sowersby and Bella DiPrizio each scored twice to lead the Titans. Maddie Conley had her first varsity goal, and Lily Beard made 14 saves.

Hingham 15, Plymouth North 8: The Harborwomen won the Patriot League game.

Archbishop Williams 19, Arlington Catholic 7: Clare O'Keefe, Avery Valicenti, Molly Madaio, Caroline Batchelder, Shea Nolan and Evelyn Lacey scored for the Bishops in the home win.

Hanover 8, Marshfield 7: Goalie Ella Heyl (11 saves) made a big late stop as the Hawks held on for a Patriot League win. Sophie Schiller and Eva Kelliher each scored twice.

Cohasset 17, Bishop Feehan 9: Kira Fulton led the Skippers to a non-league win.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Quincy 3, Durfee 2: The Presidents (6-3) rallied to win on the road, 25-22, 16-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-12. Quincy had 37 kills on 35 assists and 56 digs as a team.

Needham 3, North Quincy 1: The Raiders (6-1) lost on the road.

BC High 3, Xaverian 0: The Eagles (6-3, 2-2) won a Catholic Conference match, 25-23, 25-23, 29-27.

GIRLS TENNIS

Whitman-Hanson 5, Abington 0: Alyson Tobias won 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 in a super tiebreaker at first singles to power the Panthers. Sam Jacobsen (No. 2) and Mari Santalucia (No. 3) won in straight sets in singles, as did the doubles teams of Delaney Hughes/Sophie Ennis (No. 1) and Ciara Flynn/Mary Lynam (No. 2).

Oliver Ames 4, Canton 1: OA got singles wins from Hannah Farber and Olivia Querzoli and a doubles sweep by the teams of Emily Beaulieu/Ava Barth and Marina and Ella Mierzwinski.

Braintree 3, Milton 2: The Wamps topped the Wildcats (2-3) in Bay State Conference action, getting singles wins from Jolin Yang (No. 2) and Emma Townsend (No. 3) and a victory from the second doubles team of Chloe Zhong/Srinika Pavarathgari.

Norwell 5, Randolph 0: The Clippers won the South Shore League match.

BOYS TENNIS

Milton 3 Braintree 2: The Wildcats (5-1) edged the Wamps in Bay State Conference action.

Rockland/East Bridgewater 4, Mashpee 1: Senior captain Petr Quinn (No. 2) and eighth-grader Leo Monteiro (No. 3) won in singles, and Rockland/EB (2-2) swept the doubles with the teams of Logan Maguire/Kaden Gerstel (No. 1) and Will Cifrino/Mo Asad (No. 2).

Braintree 5, Weymouth 1: The Wamps topped the Wildcats.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Milton Academy sweeps tri-meet: On Saturday, the Mustangs (4-1) defeated St. George’s, 98-47, and Noble and Greenough, 98-25, in Middletown, Rhode Island. Double winners for the Mustangs included Ava Scannell, who won both the high jump and 300-meter hurdles, and Emma Petherick, who ran on the winning 4x100 meter relay team and also captured the 100m (:13.64).
