HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Sandwich field hockey wins league title

The Sandwich High field hockey team is the 2022 Cape and Islands Atlantic League field hockey Champions.

The title comes after a 1-0 victory over the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins (2-7-5).

The Blue Knights are now 13-0-1 on the year after the shutout victory over the Dolphins. Emily Souke scored the winning goal for Sandwich in the third period.

Field Hockey

Nantucket 1 Sturgis East 0: The Whalers (5-5-1) beat the Storm (4-5-2)  with the lone goal coming Lily Remick.

Mashpee 2, Southeastern: Jyrzie Alves scored the first goal for the Falcons (1-8) in their first win of the season. Rhiannon Tokla scored the second for Mashpee in the win.

Monomoy 1 Falmouth 0: The Sharks (10-2-4) beat the Clippers (8-2-3).

Westport 1 Bourne 0: Bourne narrowly lost to Westport to drop to 5-8-2.

Nauset 2 Barnstable 2: Barnstable (7-6-3) came back from a 2-0 deficit on Senior Night to earn a 2-2 tie. Ally McEneaney and Alexa Garthee scored the two goals in the comeback for the Red Hawks. Nauset is now (6-5-3).

Girls Volleyball

Barnstable 3, Nauset 0: The Red Hawks swept the Warriors (25-9, 25-7, 25-8) to improve to 13-1. Sadie Wellbeloved had 26 assists as the Barnstable offense had a balanced night. Lindsay Jones, Molly Fredo and Molly Gleason each had six kills, and Logan Hurwitz had 11 aces.

Nantucket 3, Sandwich 1: Despite losing the first set, the Whalers (13-1) bounced back to win three straight and beat the Blue Knights (23-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-21). Yahely del Rosario had 39 assists in the win. Sandwich drops to 8-5.

Dennis-Yarmouth 3, Falmouth 0: The Dolphins (14-3) swept the Clippers (2-12) to get the win (25-13 25-18 25-12). Grace Presswood had 17 kills for the Dolphins. Vivian Castano dished out 30 assists, and Eliana Castano chipped in 6 aces and 11 digs.

Greater New Bedford 3, Bourne 0: The  Canalwomen (8-9) were swept by Greater New Bedford (17-25, 18-25, 13-25). Mary Berio-Rowlands led the way defensively with 13 digs, and Nola Timo had five kills.

St. John Paul II 3, Rising Tide 0: Sophia Tropeano had 16 assists to lead the Lions (12-2) to the win over Rising Tide. Rosanna Sullivan had seven kills, six digs and four aces in a strong all-around performance. Molly Pulit had six kills and six aces.

Cape Tech 3, Upper Cape 0: The Crusaders swept the Rams to improve to 9-4 on the year. Upper Cape is now 0-12.

Boys Soccer

Bourne 2, Apponequet 0: Shea Ullo was at the double for the Canalmen (3-5-2) in their win over Apponequet. Nathan Reynolds recorded his seventh clean sheet of the season.

Girls Soccer

Martha’s Vineyard 6, Boston Latin Academy 0: Elena Giordano and Emily Coogan each score twice for the Vineyarders in their win over Boston Latin Academy. Reese Malowski added a goal and an assist. Ella Keene was the final goal scorer.

Apponequet 10, Bourne 0: The Canalwomen (4-8-3) were beaten by Apponequet.

Mashpee 2, Carver 2: Ella Varetimos and Charlie Jenkins each scored for Mashpee who earned a point after tying with Carver. Mia Fougere made nine saves in net.
