HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Silver Lake boys hockey repeats as Cashman Tournament champs

Brandon Cavicchi had a first-period hat trick, and Ben Cronin scored twice Wednesday night as the Silver Lake boys hockey team won the Cashman Tournament at Rockland Arena for the second straight year by beating Rockland, 5-0, in the final.

Goaltender Strummer Beals earned his first varsity shutout for the Lakers (5-1), and Aiden Dunphy had three assists.

In the consolation game, Whitman-Hanson edged Abington, 4-2, as Alex Ethier scored twice and Luke Tropeano and Joe Culley added goals for the Panthers (3-3).

Spencer Merrick made 36 saves for the Green Wave in the loss. Hunter Grafton and Sam McDonald scored for Abington (2-4).

BOYS HOCKEY

BC High 2, Saint John’s Prep 1: Senior Jackie Murphy scored 37 seconds into overtime to lift BC High (2-1-1) over Prep (2-1-1) in the first round of the Pete Frates Winter Classic. Defenseman Matt Cox (Braintree) had the tying goal in the third period. BC High plays Pope Francis (3-0-1) in Thursday's championship game.

Plymouth North 4, Nauset 3: Sam Jarvis scored the winning goal in the third period as the Blue Eagles (1-3) prevailed at home. Sean Hallissey, Justin Smith and Connor McLachlan also found the net for North, and goaltender Kaden Bono had a strong game.

Marshfield 5, St. John's (Shrewsbury) 3: Ryland McGlame and Steve Faria each scored twice, and Sammy Holte added a goal as the Rams (4-1) won the consolation game of the MHL Cup.

Canton 4, Westwood 1: The Bulldogs (4-0) won the Joe Donnelly Cup.

Plymouth South 4, Saint John Paul II 2: The Panthers (3-1) won at home.

Blue Hills 6, Upper Cape Tech 3: The Warriors (2-4) posted their second straight win.

Andover 4, Braintree 3: In the loss for the Wamps (2-1), Larry Graziano and Joe DiMartino each had a goal and an assist, and Nick Fasano also scored.

Middleboro 7, Taunton 5: The Sachems (1-2-1) posted their first win of the season.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Notre Dame Academy 3, Canton 0: Ava O'Donahue (Scituate), Morgan Brady (Middleboro) and Caroline Hartnett (Hingham) scored as NDA (3-1) handed the Bulldogs (4-1) their first loss. Goaltender Ava Larkin, who lives in Canton, had the shutout. Assists went to Sarah Francis (Scituate), Ashley McGuire (Duxbury), Bridget Pelicano (Hull), Katie Ryan (Scituate) and Emily Coughlin (Marshfield).

Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake 5, Quincy/North Quincy 1: Jules Connors had 2 goals and 2 assists for WHSL, which struck three times in the third to break open a 2-1 game. Camryn Dematos scored her first varsity goal and then added another, and Jocelyn Moore also found the net. Caitlin Dilley also had a strong game.

Archbishop Williams 3, Sandwich 1: Maggie Lynch (Quincy) scored twice, and Caroline Batchelder (Braintree) added a goal as the Bishops (4-0-1) won at home.

Norwell/Abington 7, West/East Bridgewater 1: Maddie McDonald had her second hat trick of the season, Penny Saich scored twice, and Lainey Burns and Calli Pineau added goals for the Clippers (4-1). Cindy French scored for WEB.

Milton 2, Marshfield 1: Molly Murphy and Mary Lovett scored for the Wildcats (4-1).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Weymouth 56, Bridgewater-Raynham 47: Meg Doyle scored 22 points as the Wildcats beat the Trojans on the road. B-R (2-1) got big games from Natalia Hall-Rosa (16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals), Reese Bartlett (13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists) and Brenna Woodbury (12 points, 5 steals, 3 assists).

Spruce Creek (Florida) 60, Whitman-Hanson 46: The Panthers (3-1) dropped their opening game at the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational as Spruce Creek hit seven 3-pointers. Caitlin Leahy scored 14 points for W-H. Jenna Mishou added 8, and Taryn Leonard chipped in with 6. The Panthers play again on Friday morning.

Quincy 61, Boston Latin Academy 18: Niamh Gendron scored 18 points as the Presidents advanced to the final of their own holiday tournament. Quincy (4-0) will play Sharon in Thursday's 6:30 p.m. final.

Sharon 61, Silver Lake 58: Catherine deMacedo scored 26 points, but the Lakers lost in the first round of the Quincy Holiday Tournament. Kelsi Lanza added 12 points for Silver Lake, which will play Boston Latin in Thursday's 5 p.m. consolation final.

Braintree 33, North Quincy 30: Sophie DeAngelis scored 12 points as the visiting Wamps completed a two-day home-and-home sweep of the Raiders (1-4). Ava Bryan had 14 points for NQ.

Hanover 43, Falmouth 40: Mary Kate Flynn scored 17 points, and Noey Giardina (11 points) had a strong fourth quarter to lead the Hawks to a non-league home win.

Walpole 49, Oliver Ames 29: Sarah Hilliard had 12 points and 5 rebounds for host OA (1-3) in the loss in the first round of the Sue Rivard Holiday Tournament. Maddie Homer added 6 points and 10 rebounds.

Fontbonne Academy 48 Acton-Boxborough 44: Junior Lilly Blow had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to power the visiting Ducks (4-1). Junior Tressa Murphy (8 points, 10 rebounds) and sophomore Jess Laflamme (7 points, 7 rebounds) also contributed.

Middleboro 57, West Bridgewater 44: The Sachems topped the Wildcats on the road.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Canton 67, Bishop Feehan 65 (OT): Matt Chafin and Jamaal McConnell each scored 18 points, and Zaza Francoeur added 14 points as the Bulldogs (3-2) advanced to Thursday's final of the Derrick Snowden Memorial Holiday Basketball Tournament. Canton will play Randolph at 7 p.m. at Milton High.

Randolph 61, Milton 45: Cam Rainford scored 18 points as the Blue Devils beat the host Wildcats to advance to Thursday's 7 p.m. final of Derrick Snowden Memorial Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Archbishop Williams 85, Duxbury 64: All-tournament selections Josh Campbell (26 points) and Lorenzo Jackson (16 points, 7 rebounds) starred as the Bishops (5-0) won the Titan Holiday Tournament in Pembroke. Nate Pelton added 12 points, Tommy McDonagh and Andre Espaillat each had 10, and Tristan Rodriques chipped in with 9.

Pembroke 79, Silver Lake 62: Devanti Perry made all eight of his shots as the Titans won the consolation game at their own holiday tournament. Joey Dwyer added 8 steals and 4 rebounds for Pembroke. Silver Lake's Luke Lofstrom scored 23 points and was named to the all-tournament team.

Scituate 73, Abington 50: Senior captain Michael Porter scored 22 of his game-high 24 points in the first half as the Sailors (3-1) posted a non-league road win. Dawit Quilty added 21 points for Scituate. For Abington (2-3), Kingston Maxwell had 11 points and Darin Zenus added 9.

Middleborough 54, West Bridgewater 37: Matthew Youngquist scored 14 points, and Jacob Briggs added 12 points for the Sachems (2-3) in the non-league home win.

Stoughton 59, Medway 55: Jayden Costa-Haywood scored 23 points, and Jarred Daughtry added 11 for the Black Knights.

Brookline 61, BC High 55: The Eagles lost at the BABC Holiday Classic at Cathedral High.

Marshfield 60, Dennis Yarmouth 41: The Rams (4-0) won on the road.

Cohasset game suspended: The Skippers' home game vs. Excel Academy reportedly was halted when an Excel player assaulted a referee.
