HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Simpson's big night gives Spellman boys hoops a tourney-clinching win

The dazzling play of point guard Kristian Simpson guided the Cardinal Spellman High boys basketball team to victory on Tuesday.

The senior from Abington put up 34 points in an 85-74 win over Bishop Feehan, a game that clinched the Cardinals their 10th win of the season (10-4 overall) and, thus, an automatic seed in the upcoming Div. 3 state tournament.

Also in the win, senior Jaydan Exalus had 20 points, senior Luke McSharry added 10 points and junior Matt O'Donnell put together a strong two-way performance.

BOYS BASKETBALL

BC High 77, Latin Academy 52: The Eagles (7-10) came away with the win.

Braintree 50, Framingham 35: The Wamps (6-9) took this league game as Cam Gazzolo had 11 points.

Xaverian 66, Bridgewater-Raynham 45: Jake Golden (9 points), Dylan Rodriguez (6 points), DJ Overall (6 points) and Deshawn Faulk (6 points) played well for the Trojans (3-12) in the loss.

Brockton 74, Durfee 57: The Boxers (9-4) walked away with a Southeast Conference triumph.

Canton 63, Stoughton 51: Zaza Francoeur scored a team-best 23 points for the Bulldogs (9-7) in the win.

Jeremiah Predin also added 13. Obi Dike scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 6 rebounds for the Black Knights (4-11), who also got 7 points from Jayden Costa Haywood.

Cohasset 48, Hull 45: The Skippers (8-8) won a narrow South Shore League contest thanks to solid scoring nights from Sam Coletta (14), Sam Larson (12) and Leighton Kelly (8).

Duxbury 61, Whitman-Hanson 56: The Dragons (9-8) prevailed behind Tate Fiedler's 15 points, along with 11 points from Alex Barlow and 10 from Trevor Jones.

Ryan Baker netted a game-high 20 points and Isaiah Bean-Brittain scored 11 for Whitman-Hanson (10-7) in the loss.

Middleboro 55, East Bridgewater 44: The senior group of Jacob Briggs (21 points), Nick Marzelli (12) and Darian McGuffie (10) guided the Sachems (14-4) to a key South Shore League victory.

Hanover 63, Scituate 38: Tyler Vincent led the Hawks (9-6) with 15 points, Charlie Carroll scored 14, Jake Peterson scored 13 and David Quinlan scored 10 in the Patriot League win.

Hingham 70, Silver Lake 39: The Harbormen (9-9) rode 13 different scorers en route to a decisive Patriot League win.

Marshfield 40, Plymouth North 36: James Leach scored 13 points to accompany his standout defensive effort, while Ryan Treacy added in 9 points to the Rams' (11-4) win.

Mansfield 74, Oliver Ames 60: The Tigers (5-11) dropped a Hockomock League matchup.

Needham 65, Milton 26: The Wildcats (0-13) suffered a league loss.

North Quincy 48, Plymouth South 46: Senior guard Zach Taylor put up 21 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists and senior Joe Bates had 11 points and 5 rebounds for the Raiders (13-4, 12-2 Patriot League). Plymouth South (9-6, 9-5) was led by senior Declan Davis (13 points) and Liam Davis (10 points).

Archbishop Williams 86, Arlington Catholic 62: Tristan Rodriguez scored a team-high 21 points and the trio of Andre Espaillat, Tommy McDonagh and Lorenzo Jackson each had 12 points apiece.

Pembroke 64, Quincy 53: The Titans (8-8) returned to the .500 mark with this Patriot League victory over the Presidents (1-13).

Rockland 62, Mashpee 47: The Bulldogs improved to 9-6 (6-5 in the South Shore League) with the win.

Calvary Chapel 63, South Shore Tech 51: The duo of Jesse Lyons (23 points) and Brandon LaFleur (22 points) combined for a big night despite the Vikings' (5-10) loss.

Randolph 59, Norwell 56: Isaiah Michel's 24 points spearheaded the Blue Devils' (13-3) South Shore League win. For the Clippers, Matt Leaver scored 20 points, Jackson Adams scored 9 and Ryan Luccarelli scored 8.

Weymouth 74, Walpole 68: Edric Louissaint led the way for the Wildcats (8-7) with 20 points, Cam Nordstrom followed with 15 and the trio of Gill Dolan, Nick Neary and Will Savage each contributed 10 apiece.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Whitman-Hanson 48, Duxbury 42: The Panthers (12-5, 12-2 Patriot League) came back from 11 points down in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Senior Caitlin Leahy (16 points), sophomore Taryn Leonard (10 points) and freshman Jenna Mishou (8 points) and sophomore Bella Miniutti shined.

The Dragons (7-9) were headlined by sophomore guards Lyla Peters (15 points) and Ava Welch (10 points).

Notre Dame Academy 50, Fontbonne 48: With the win, the Cougars (9-6) earned a three-way split of the Catholic Conference title with Fontbonne and Malden Catholic. Sophomore Ava Orlando scored 18 points, freshman Elle Orlando and junior Lola Paradis each had 11, junior Sofia Danick had 10 and junior Jane Hilsabeck played well on defense.

Alix Aberlard scored 21 for the Ducks.

Cohasset 59, Hull 27: Sarah Chenette collected 22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals, Abbie Goff had 12 points and 8 rebounds and Laney Larsen had 9 points and 8 assists as Kate Freer had a strong game on both ends for the Skippers (10-6).

Framingham 48, Braintree 25: The Wamps (5-11) suffered a league loss.

Bridgewater-Raynham 60, Westford Academy 25: Natalia Hall-Rosa recorded 19 points, 9 steals and 7 rebounds for the Trojans (12-3), who also got productive days from Reese Bartlett (10 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists), Brenna Woodbury (9 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals).

Durfee 49, Brockton 35: Junior Tajeiha Madison (12 points, 2 rebounds, 4 steals) and senior Ngoni Nwosu (8 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks) headlined the Boxers (10-5) despite the Southeast Conference loss.

Stoughton 29, Canton 23: The Black Knights (3-13) defeated league rival Canton (3-12) at home.

East Bridgewater 44, Middleboro 39: Freshman Hailey Iwanski led the Sachems (8-10) with 10 points, sophomore Jessica Perry scored 7 points and senior Lila Peddie added 6 points.

Hanover 47, Scituate 43: Hanover (12-4, 10-4 Patriot League) was led by Mary Kate Flynn (13 points and 14 rebounds), Tess Madden (10 points, 12 rebounds) and Mary Carven (10 points).

Emilia Rojik's 13 points headlined Scituate (3-14), which also benefitted the strong defensive efforts of Bella Burns and Casey McKeever.

Hingham 67, Silver Lake 41: The Harborwomen (6-11) got back in the win column with this Patriot League victory.

Holbrook 50, Randolph 40: The Bulldogs (7-8) grabbed the win.

Marshfield 47, Plymouth North 35: The Rams were led by 22 points from Taylor Brilliant.

Mansfield 57, Oliver Ames 45: Freshman Kamryn Derba led OA (7-8) with 18 points. Freshman Avery Gamble scored 11 points and junior Kaydance Derba had 7 points and 8 rebounds.

Needham 38, Milton 27: The Wildcats (6-12) suffered a league loss.

North Quincy 46, Plymouth South 31: Ava Bryan led with 17 points and Jillian Jaehnig followed with 11 points for the Raiders (4-12).

Quincy 51, Pembroke 49: Alyssa Hoops scored the game-winning layup in the final seconds to clinch the Presidents' (14-2, 12-2 Patriot League) first league title since 2016. Pembroke (11-7) was led by Alissa Marcella's 20 points and Deanna Linscott's 18.

Rockland 60, Mashpee 20: Zariah Ottley led the Bulldogs (13-2, 11-0 South Shore League) with 17 points, Maggie Elie had 13 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds and Sydney Blaney had 10 points.

Walpole 70, Weymouth 31: The Wildcats fall to 8-7 with the defeat.

South Shore Tech 71, Norfolk Aggie 30: Rose Earner (18 points), Mia Bradshaw (17 points, 14 rebounds) and Mari Demaggio (7 points) starred for the Vikings (14-2, 7-1 Mayflower Athletic Conference).

GIRLS HOCKEY

Ursuline Academy 4, West/East Bridgewater 3: Lauren McPherson (2 goals) and Cindy French netted the goals on set-ups from Keira Sweeney (3 assists) and Grace Ogilvie (2 assists). Kourtney Spooner also played well in the loss.

BOYS TRACK

Brockton wins SEC Championships: The Boxers claimed the Southeast Conference title, besting Dartmouth, Bridgewater-Raynham, Durfee and New Bedford at the league championship meet. Christensen Paul, Matt Turco, Henry Tait, Chris Gorynski, Lucas Andrade, Antonio Tobon, Jarred Mighty, Jayden Wooten, Jaden Lopes Ribeiro and Ruben Bernard all had standout performances.
