HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Soaring high, Plymouth North softball still undefeated

The Plymouth North softball team continued its unbeaten start to the season on Monday, beating Hanover, 10-6, on the road to improve to 9-0.

Marissa Durette was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI, and Emily Jenkins and Bella Piekarski each went 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Caroline Collins was the winning pitcher, striking out six. She also was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Grace Beatty was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

For Hanover (7-2, 6-1), sophomores McKenzie Foley (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Kaelyn Chase (2 hits, double, 2 runs) played well.

SOFTBALL

Diman 17, West Bridgewater 3: Fallon Smith went 2 for 2 with a triple and a run in the loss.

Whitman-Hanson 9, Quincy 1: Lauryn Meade had 3 hits and pitched well (7 innings, 3 hits, 0 walks, 7 strikeouts) for the Panthers. Annie Cook blasted a home run.

Fontbonne 8, Notre Dame Academy 5: The Ducks won the non-league game.

Holbrook 6, Bristol Aggie 0: Junior Mary Walker had 2 hits and an RBI and starred defensively at second base for the Bulldogs (10-0). Alyssa Slamin had 2 RBI while Taylor Dolan went 2 for 3 with a double and home run plus 3 RBI. Dolan also earned the win in the circle while allowing 3 hits.

South Shore Tech 11, Blue Hills 8: Tiana MacDonald was 3 for 3 with 5 RBI for the Vikings. Grace McCarthy (3 for 4, 3 RBI) and McKenzie Jepsen (2 for 4, RBI) also starred.

King Philip 7, Oliver Ames 4: Freshman Taylor Marino pitched a strong 6 innings, striking out two, in the loss. Lexi Galsband (2 for 3, 2 RBI, run), Paige Taylor (2 runs), Emily Martin (RBI) and Caitlin Miller (2 for 3, RBI) also starred for OA.

Bridgewater-Raynham 8, New Bedford 0: Lily Welch tossed a 3-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Riain Keefe led the offense with 3 hits and 3 runs. Taylor Reid (2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Emma Talpey both had 3 hits. Julia Shearstone tripled and drove in 3 RBI.

Hingham 15, North Quincy 2: The Harborwomen won the Patriot League game.

Marshfield 22, Scituate 2: Jess Morrison led the big offensive day for the Rams (4-6) with 4 hits. Ella Staffier, Mikaela Powers and Haylie McPhee each had 3 hits.

Archbishop Williams 8, Bishop Fenwick 0: Jill Ondrick threw a shutout with 11 strikeouts and was 2 for 3 with a home run as Williams (9-3) won on the road. Emma O'Neil (3 for 4, 2 runs, 2 steals, RBI), Shelby Parr (2 for 4, 2 RBI) and Alyssa Burke (2 for 3, 2 runs, 2 RBI) all starred.

BASEBALL

Milton 7, Walpole 3: Charlie Walker struck out 11 over 6 innings to earn the win for the Wildcats (9-2). Owen McHugh drove in a pair of runs.

Braintree 9, Framingham 2: The Wamps (8-3) scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to blow the game open. Josh Morelli pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win.

Silver Lake 6, Pembroke 3: The Lakers won the Patriot League battle.

King Philip 9, Oliver Ames 0: Nick Clark had a solid start going 5 2/3 innings and only allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 9 in the loss. Patrick Finnerty had two hits for OA.

Hingham 7, North Quincy 4: Jake Schulte belted a 2-run home run, drove in 3 runs and struck out 4 while earning the win on the mound. Johnny Lynch (3 hits, RBI) and Max Guadiano (2 hits, 2 RBI, run) starred for NQ.

Whitman-Hanson 4, Quincy 1: Jackson House picked up a win in his first varsity start for the Panthers (4-5, 4-3 Patriot League) while Aidan Barry sent a solo home run over 363-feet mark in left field. Freshman Ryan Baker made a diving catch.

Marshfield 5, Scituate 1: Jack Keane winning pitcher for the Rams (3-5), allowing 4 hits and no earned runs over 6 2/3 innings with 5 strikeouts. Michael Sheskey was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk for the Sailors (6-3, 5-1) in the Patriot League loss.

Weymouth 7, Needham 0: Jack Reyes threw a complete-game shutout. Gill Dolan and Sean Zaslaw each was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles.

Plymouth South 12, Duxbury 2: Jack Obert earned the complete-game win, striking out 7, and was 3 for 4 with a double for the Panthers (8-2, 7-0 Patriot League). Nathan Ferry (2 RBI), Nate Ruehs (2 for 4, double, RBI) and Tommy Sullivan (2 for 5, RBI) also starred. Duxbury’s Chris Walsh was 3 for 3 with a triple..

Plymouth North 4, Hanover 2: Alec Peruzzi pitched the Blue Eagles to a Patriot League win.

Dartmouth 4, Brockton 3 (13 innings): The Boxers dropped a marathon game despite 10 innings on the mound from Chris Frost.

Southeastern Regional 7, Westport 2: John Graca pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing only two hits and striking out six. The offense was led by Nolan Sturdevant (3 for 4, RBI, run) Nick Rysinger (2 hits) and Joseph Tully (1 for 2, 2 RBI).

Bridgewater-Raynham 5, New Bedford 0: The Trojans posted their sixth shutout in seven games. Mike Logiudice got the win, allowing 2 hits over 5 innings before Luke Barry (2 innings, 4 K's) finished up. Colin Ronayne (2 for 4, 2 RBI) and Kevin Doyle (2 for 3, RBI) paced the offense.

BOYS LACROSSE

Norwell 19, East Bridgewater 5: The Clippers won the South Shore League game.

Abington 10, Mashpee 3: Pat Prewitt had a hat trick, and John Halpin (2 goals, 2 assists), Zach Buccigross (3 assists), Hunter Grafton (2 goals, assist), Mike Van Luling (goal, assist), Ryan Libby (goal) and Jack Robbins (goal) led the Green Wave.

Canton 8, Mansfield 6: Brennen Pecararo scored his first varsity goal and Max Eagles played well at the X.

Hanover 8, Cohasset 5: The Hawks picked up a solid non-league win over the Skippers.

Archbishop Williams 9, Bishop Fenwick 8: Zac McClay had 4 goals and an assist, and goalie Brady Sullivan made 15 saves to lead Williams. Aiden Walsh scored twice.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Weymouth 13, Scituate 7: Megan Doyle (2 assists, 7 draw controls) and Cam Flaherty (assist, 6 draw controls) led the way for the Wildcats. Mira Flaherty, Sammy Holmes, and Kendall Rogers all scored once.

Mashpee 18, Abington 0: The Green Wave dropped the South Shore League game.

Arlington Catholic 15, Cardinal Spellman 12: Kathryn Lysko (5 goals) and Elle Murphy (3 goals, assist) played well in the loss.

Notre Dame Academy 13, Needham 3: The Cougars won the non-league game.

Canton 10, Mansfield 9: Ella Yeaton (4 goals), Fay Gallery (2 goals, 2 assists) and Devan Spinale (3 assists) starred for the Bulldogs (6-0).

Bishop Fenwick 13, Archbishop Williams 10: The Bishops fell behind 8-1 at halftime but made it interesting in the second half. Karaline O'Toole had 5 goals. Abigail Dunn and Claire O'Keefe both scored 2 goals.

Norwell 15, East Bridgewater 0: Danielle Cox had a hat trick, and Mika Johnston and Ella McLaughlin each scored twice for the Clippers (5-3).

GIRLS TENNIS

Duxbury 5, Plymouth South 0: The Dragons won the Patriot League game.

Pembroke 3, Silver Lake 2: Aislin Dalrymple (third singles) and Ari Robinson/Summer Holmes (first doubles) picked up wins for the Lakers.

Walpole 4, Milton 1: The Wildcats dropped the Bay State Conference.

Oliver Ames 3, King Philip 1: In a match shortened by rain, Elizabeth O’Brien won at third singles, and OA swept the doubles with the teams of Caroline Peper/Morgan Vasiliou (No. 1) and Marina Mierzwinski/Olivia Querzoli (No. 2).

Whitman-Hanson 3, Quincy 2: Alyson Tobias won at third singles, and the Panthers swept the doubles with the teams of Delaney Hughes/Sophie Ennis (No. 1) and Riley Getchell/Mary Lynam (a clinching 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 2).

BOYS TENNIS

Whitman-Hanson 3, Quincy 2: The Panthers (5-4) swept the doubles behind Tristan Baker/Conor Battel (No. 1) and Daniel McDevitt/Brady Wright (No. 2) and clinched the win at third singles when Mateo Santalucia rallied for a 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory.

Duxbury 5, Plymouth South 0: The Green Dragons (8-0) blanked South (6-3).

Hingham 4, North Quincy 1: Thomas Fabrizio and Hector Munoz won in singles, and Dominic Kanter/Will Baker and Logan Price/Miguel Alonzo took the doubles for Hingham. Ivan Yang won at 2nd singles for North Quincy.

GIRLS GOLF

Duxbury 5, Hingham 1: Tierney Regan, Harper Capilli, Lucy Laviolette, Grace Landolfi and Olivia Kyriakides all won for the Dragons (6-0).

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Quincy 3, Durfee 0: The Presidents (7-4) won at home, 25-11, 28-26, 25-19. Quincy had 30 kills, 6 blocks, 29 assists and 58 digs as a team.
