HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: South Shore boys hockey teams showing well in Ed Burns Classic

The South Shore has been well represented in the Ed Burns Classic.

Hingham, Marshfield and Canton have advanced to the semifinals of the tournament on Sunday.

On Sunday, the Harbormen, who are the No. 2 seed, defeated Winchester, 2-1, in overtime. Billy Jacobus scored the winner off a pass from Aiden Brazel to send the Harbormen to the semifinals of the Peter Doherty Division. Hingham will play No. 6 Wellesley on Sunday. Travis Rugg scored the other goal while Luke Merian played well in net. Winchester tied the game just before regulation ended. Wellesley defeated Braintree, 3-1, on Sunday.

Marshfield, the No. 8 seed, stunned top-seeded Arlington, 3-2, in overtime in the Doherty Division. Will Doherty (two goals) tallied the winner (off an assist from Connor Merrick) to send the Rams into the semifinals against Tewksbury on Sunday. Nick Souretis (assisted by Cam McGettrick). Jack Croft also had an assist while Brady Quackenbush made 22 saves.

Canton, the No. 9 seed in the Walter Brinn Division, defeated Burlington, 4-0, as Eamon Kelly scored two goals and Colin Davis had the shutout. Brendan Tourgee (2 assists) and Billy DeLello scored the other goals. Canton will play Natick on Sunday in the semifinals.

Weymouth lost to Franklin, 6-1, in the Brinn Division.

In other high school action on Monday:

BOYS HOCKEY

Stoughton/Brockton 3, Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth 1: Colin Alessi scored a hat trick in the win while Chris Andrade stopped 25 shots. Bobby Manning scored the lone goal for Southeastern (8-3) while Ryan Lebaron made 19 saves.

Silver Lake 4, North Attleboro 1: Brett Evans scored a hat trick for the Lakers (11-3) while Peter Bond was solid in net. Brandon Cavicchi scored the other goal. Aidan Dunphy, Markie Kelleher, Gavin Sampson and Travis Rousseau-Pringle all had assists. The win qualifies the Lakers for the postseason.

Norwell 6, Rockland 1: Austin Shea scored two goals for the Clippers. Timmy Ward, Griffin Vetrano, Ronan Schipani and Quinn Simmons had solo tallies.

Xaverian 3, BC High 2: Matt Cox and James Marshall scored in the loss.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Duxbury 3, Hingham 1: Freshman Tori Hayden scored her first goal of the season, Grace Landolfi snapped a 1-1 tie in the second period, and Ayla Abban clinched the win in the third period with her team-leading 20th goal as the Dragons (12-0-2) beat the Harborwomen (7-6) at The Bog in Kingston. Abbey Kennedy scored for Hingham.

Brookline 4, Quincy/North Quincy 1: Q/NQ (7-5) had its three-game winning streak snapped at Walter Brown Arena in Boston.

Rivers 2, Thayer Academy 0: The Tigers lost on the road.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Avon 63, Blue Hills 61: Marin Louis scored 18 points for the Warriors (9-5) in the loss while Nikko Ruffin had 11.

Plymouth North 70, Hanover 47: Nine Blue Eagles (6-7) scored in the win but senior Alec Peruzzi led the way with 20 points. JayMori Leonard added 12 while Chris Kane had 10. Jaylen Baker chipped in 8. Hanover was led by junior forwards David Quinlan (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Jake Peterson (18 points, 6 rebounds).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Plymouth North 46, Hanover 36: Dani Tilden led the Hawks (7-8) in the loss with 13 points.

West Bridgewater 58, Southeastern 35: Sophia Florio and Jenella Jacobs both played well for the Wildcats (9-1).

Brookline 62, Stoughton 30: Evie Lam led the Black Knights with 11 points in the loss. Alyssa Edwards grabbed 7 rebounds.

GYMNASTICS

Wellesley 135.00, Weymouth 130.35: Maggie Lynch won the all-around competition for the Wildcats. Molly Higgins placed second on the vault and beam while Marina Russell was second on bars and floor.

Marshfield 133.75, Hanover 129.35, Thayer Academy 121.55: Marshfield's Olivia Audette won the all-around competition (34.15) on Friday. Jane McNeil was fourth in the all-around. Annie Spencer scored a season-high 8.95 to win the balance beam. The Rams improved to 8-1 with the win.

CO-ED SWIMMING & DIVING

Archbishop Williams 91, Rockland 66: The Bishops won on Senior Day.

GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVING

Scituate 87, Plymouth 78: On Friday, Morgan Adams, Gabby Lopes, Molly Lutz, and Ella Derby combined to win the 400 yard free relay with a season-best time (4:17.75). Derby won the 100 back and 100 breast.

BOYS SWIMMING & DIVING

Scituate 87, Plymouth 78: Max Balboni, Will Kenny, Zack Adams, and Nate Derby won the 400 yard free relay with a season-best time (4:09.37). Derby won the 100 free and 100 breast. Adamss finished first in the 100 back.
