High school roundup: Stafford baseball, softball suffer defeats

May 17—BASEBALL

EAST GRANBY 5, STAFFORD 3. At East Granby, Adrian Bento hit a walk-off grand slam with two outs in the seventh inning to give the host Crusaders (9-8) the NCCC win. Two Stafford errors and a walk set the stage for Bento's dramatics.

Collin Gudeman pitched 6 2/3 innings before reaching the pitch-count limit for Stafford (10-9). He allowed four hits and one unearned run while striking out 10. He also had two hits. The Bulldogs close the regular season at Bolton Thursday.

SOFTBALL

East Hampton 7, Stafford 6

At East Hampton, Abbigale Sylvester scored on an error to cap a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Bellringers (6-10) picked up a non-league win.

Sofia Frassinelli and Andrea Moulton each had two hits and two RBIs for Stafford (7-9). Ava Maroisse also had two hits including a triple. The Bulldogs visit Somers Thursday.

CT. 2-Man Invitational

Ryan Willey of East Windsor and Trey Trantolo of Ellington combined on a 5-under 65 to win the "CT. 2-Man Invitational" event at Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford Tuesday. The pair beat out Tolland teammates Max Baldwin and AJ Cady by five shots. The best-ball format featured 38 teams from 21 schools.
