HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Whitman-Hanson baseball coach Pat Cronin retires with 503 wins
It was the end of an era Friday as Whitman-Hanson High baseball coach Pat Cronin announced his retirement following the Panthers' 1-0 loss at Bridgewater-Raynham.
Whitman-Hanson finished the season at 9-11.
Cronin leaves with 503 career wins, split between East Bridgewater (421) and W-H (82), in 41 seasons as a varsity coach (50 overall). The East Bridgewater resident played at Whitman-Hanson, winning a Class B EMass championship in 1965.
Cronin registered his 500th career win on May 13 when the Panthers edged Plymouth North, 3-2, in 9 innings.

"I don't like (focusing) on me," he said of the milestone at the time. "You know what my favorite part of coaching is? During practices -- in the cage or on the mound when I'm working with kids. That's my favorite time. Or when I see kids like they did today making the big plays. I live for that stuff. That's what I got growing up in Whitman. That's what I got from all the coaches that I had -- people who cared showing you how to do something and then just saying, 'OK, just go have some fun.'"
On Senior Night, six B-R pitchers combined on the shutout, the Trojans' ninth in 20 games. Nolan DeAndrade was one of them, logging an inning and homering in the sixth for the game's lone run. Dylan Cronin got the win, Brendan Goonan notched the save and Mike Logiudice was a defensive standout for B-R (15-5) in the regular-season finale.

Senior tri-captain Aidan Barry a gem for Whitman-Hanson, scattering 5 hits, walking 3, and striking out 2 as the W-H defense played a strong game behind him. Barry picked off a runner and was helped out when center fielder Braden Kain chased down a deep fly ball.
Trevor Googins, Ryan Carroll and Cam Beltramini had the only Panther hits.

BASEBALL
Scituate 15 Cohasset 5: Jordan Barthel (2 for 3, home run, triple, 2 runs) and Neil Sullivan (1 for 2, home run, 2 runs) each had 4 RBI to power the Sailors (14-6) to a non-league win in their regular-season finale. Ben Whitman (3 for 3, triple, double, 3 runs, RBI) and Connor Stone (1 for 2, double, 2 walks, 2 RBI) also starred, Courtland Hare and Michael Sheskey each drove in a run, Johnny Kinsley scored 3 times and Henry Gates scored twice. Hare also got the win on the mound, allowing a hit over 3 innings with 5 strikeouts.

Dighton-Rehoboth 4, Oliver Ames 2: Jake Waxman (double) and Nathan Carpentier drove in runs for OA in the loss. Nathaniel Lewis got the other hit and scored a run, and pitcher Jack Richardson had a solid outing.
BC High 5, Central Catholic 1: Three pitchers combined on a 2-hitter for the Eagles. Chris Capozzi (Marshfield) had a big day at the plate.

Brockton 9, Quincy 5: The Boxers topped the Presidents (11-11) in non-league action as Brady Ensko got the complete game win, Sami Balti had multiple hits and Brady Forman homered off the left-field foul pole.
Silver Lake 8, New Bedford 5 (11 inn.): The Lakers ended their season with a road win.

Weymouth 13, Hingham 1: The Wildcats beat the Harbormen in non-league action.

Braintree 11, Abington 1: The Wamps topped the Green Wave (16-4) in non-league action.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Cohasset 21, Rockland 1: The Skippers clinched the South Shore League Tobin Division crown as Zoe Willock scored her first two varsity goals.

Canton 13, Quincy 8: The Bulldogs topped the Presidents in non-league action.
BOYS LACROSSE
Marshfield 13, Canton 10: In the loss, Canton's Sam Carlino (3 goals, 2 assists) recorded his 200th point over the last two seasons. Brendan Tourgee (4 goals, assist), Dillon Albert (2 goals) and Colin Blake (goal) also played well.

GIRLS TENNIS
Bridgewater-Raynham 5, Brockton 0: The Trojans clinched a tie for the Southeast Conference championship as Nicole Kimball capped an undefeated league season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first singles. Holly Nichols and Catherine Taylor also won in singles, and B-R swept the doubles with the teams of Annaliese Colwell/Marlena Colwell and Grace Morris/Smitty Sriram.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Div. 1: Locals swept the top three spots in the triple jump on the first day of the Div. 1 state championships in Shrewsbury. Jiovanni Bycinte (BC High) won the event with a leap of 44 feet,1 inch, followed by teammate Ben Evee (2nd, 43-7.75) and North Quincy's Daithi Quinn (3rd, 43-7.5).
Quincy's Hatim Boukhtam was second in the 800m (1:58.11), and Gabe Rodrigues, his teammate on the Quincy/North Quincy co-op, was sixth in the discus (128-0). For Weymouth, David Manfredi was fourth in the 2-mile (9:43.83), and Cam Fernandez was eighth in the 200m (:22.48).
Pentathlon results were delayed.
Div. 2: Competing on home turf, Hingham's Tom Shetzline and Avery Warshaw both starred on the first day of the Div. 2 state championships at Hingham High. Shetzline won the 400m hurdles (:56.13) and was third in the triple jump (42-5.75). Warshaw won the triple jump in 44-8.
Marshfield's Jay Joyce was fourth in the 800m (1:56.66). Bridgewater-Raynham's Kauan Bento was seventh in the 200m (:22.67), and teammate Declan Hetrick was eighth in the discus (132-7).
Div. 3: Oliver Ames won two events on the first day of the Div. 3 state championships at Westfield State as Fabrice Fouron captured the triple jump (42-0.5), and Ryan Sarney took the 2-mile (9:26.31). OA's Collin Williamson was second in the triple jump (42-0.5). The Tigers also dominated the pentathlon with William Sobieraj (4th, 2,015 points), Jack Rinehart (6th, 1,898) and Jacob Nipoti (7th, 1,671). OA's Owen McMorrow was sixth in the 2-mile (9:48.65).
Duxbury's Gavin Thomas won the 200m in :22.47 with teammate Lucas Fadden (:22.88) in fifth. Duxbury's Jake Boudreau was second in the 800m (1:59.68), and Oliver Bishop was eighth in the 400m hurdles (1:00.71).
Milton had a pair of fourth-place finishers in Liam Flaherty (triple jump, 40-7.5) and Donovan Murray (2-mile, 9:40.30), while Moses Mann was seventh in the 400m hurdles (1:00.61). Plymouth South's Dylan Brilliant was fifth in the 2-mile (9:40.60), and Plymouth North's Noah Gould was eighth in the 200m (:23.47).
Rain forces schedule change: The concluding day of the Division 4, 5 and 6 track state tournaments, scheduled for Saturday, have been postponed to Monday due to the forecast of rain.
Div. 5: On Thursday, three locals finished second on the first day of the Div. 5 state championships in Weston -- Middleboro's Michael Neitlich in the 400m hurdles (:57.21); Randolph's John Morgan in the 200m (:22.93); and Norwell's Connor Reidy in the 2-mile (9:52.97).
Middleboro's Bolu Sotonwa was third in the triple jump (43-1.5), one spot ahead of Cardinal Spellman's Nathan Monteiro (school-record 43-0). In the 400m hurdles, Hanover's Mike DeMayo was fifth (1:01.73), and Randolph's Amani Rupia was seventh (1:01.88). Norwell's Thomas Corbett was fifth in the 2-mile (9:55.34), Spellman's Stephan Moise was seventh in the 200m (:23.81), and Middleboro's Noah DeGrazia was eighth in the 800m (2:01.46).
Div. 6: On Thursday, Carver's Julian Grant was seventh in the 200m (:23.20) and Abington's Jeff Buckley was eighth in the discus (127-3) on the first day of the Div. 6 state championships at Westfield State.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Div. 1: Weymouth had three top-8 finishes on the first day of the Div. 1 state championships in Shrewsbury. Gracie Richard was fifth in the 800m (2:21.13), and Emma Daley was eighth (2:22.87). Ella Bates finished fifth in the 2-mile (11:30.46).
Pentathlon results were delayed.
Div. 2: Bridgewater-Raynham's Nethica Auguste won the triple jump with a leap of 36-10.5 on the first day of the Div. 2 state championships at Hingham High. Marshfield had a pair of third-place finishes, from Charlotte Henning (800m, 2:15.75) and Eleanor Angeles-Whitfield (2-mile, 11:12.97). Hingham's Maureen Koenen was fourth in the 400m hurdles in 1:06.63.
Div. 3: Plymouth South's Katrina Sullivan won the 400m hurdles in 1:06.2, and Stoughton's Shayla Ford won the 200m in :25.97 on the first day of the Div. 3 state championships at Westfield State.
Milton's Gretel Schewe (2:23.46) and Mia Jilani (2:25.33) finished 2-3 in the 800m, and teammate Elana Pukel was third in the pentathlon with 2,221 points. Oliver Ames' Johanna Holmes was third in the 2-mile (1:48.86), and Plymouth South's Cam Travis was third in the triple jump (34-8.25). Stoughton's Maya Ashu was fifth in the triple jump (34-5), and teammate Carmela Brown was sixth in the discus (89-1).
In the 400m hurdles, Whitman-Hanson's April Keyes (4th, 1:08.69), Milton's Kai Quinones (6th, 1:11.70) and Oliver Ames' Sarah Hilliard (7th, 1:13.55) all starred. Plymouth South's Lauren Donlan was seventh in the discus (88-4).

Div. 5: On Thursday, Cardinal Spellman's Ashley Holbrook won the triple jump in a meet-record 36-6.75 on the first day of the Div. 5 state championships in Weston. Liliana MacDonald of Norwell was runner-up in 36-3.5, and Middleboro's Elleana Bush was sixth (34-4.5).
Cohasset's Riley Nussbaum was second in the 800m (2:20.26). In the 400m hurdles, Norwell's Bridget Shaw was third (1:06.65), followed by teammates Ella Johnson (6th, 1:08.17) and Meredith Cassidy (8th, 1:09.21). In the discus, Middleboro's Shauna Gallagher was eighth (86-5).
Div. 6: On Thursday, Maria Wood of Abington was runner-up in the 200m (:25.81) on the first day of the Div. 6 state championships at Westfield State. West Bridgewater's Ella Dunbury was seventh in two events -- 800m (2:29.90) and 2-mile (12:14.83) -- and teammate Grace Schnell was eighth in the triple jump (32-9.5).
Archbishop Williams' Maddie Hussey was sixth in the 2-mile (12:09.31) and teammate Erin O'Toole was eighth in the 200m (:28.34).
