HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Whitman-Hanson wrestling edges Marshfield on Senior Night

The Whitman-Hanson wrestling team celebrated Senior Night by beating Patriot League rival Marshfield, 45-34, on Wednesday.

The Panthers (6-5-3) won eight matches and got pins from three senior captains.

At 138 pounds, Braden Kain pinned his opponent in 2:27. Kain leads the team in both wins (he's 34-3) and pins (26). At 145 pounds, Aidan Guiliani won by pin in 1:44 to improve to 29-2 on the season with 23 pins. And at 285, Maddox Colclough pinned in 41 seconds to improve to 22-6 on the season with 18 pins.

Sophomore 113-pounder Charlie Lussier also won by pin in 46 seconds. He's 29-1 on the season with 24 pins.

Other winners for the Panthers: sophomore Christian Grimaldi (pin in 1:50 at 120 pounds); junior Austin Gamber (pin in 1:57 at 132); junior Jacob Metivier (10-5 decision at 152); and freshman P.J. Katz (forfeit at 106).

Bridgewater-Raynham 48, Barnstable 28: The Trojans (15-1-1) got wins from Matt Fernandes, Jack Alves, Shaun LaCivita, Brendan Rosher, Christian Curley, Chris Hogg, Nathan Leach, Myles Beckett and Declan Fahy.

Newton North 45, Milton 33: In the loss, the Wildcats got individual wins from Will Doyle, Kenny Heraldo, Luis Bitencourt, Alex Alexis and Mason Pellegri.

Canton 42, Stoughton 32: Heavyweight Julian Prentice won by pin in the final match to clinch the win for the visiting Bulldogs.

Quincy/North Quincy 39, Scituate 24: Q/NQ improves to 7-7 with the win.

Plymouth South 30, Pembroke 24: The Panthers edged the Titans in Patriot League action.

Cohasset 65, Middleboro 12: The Skippers won a South Shore League match at home.

Braintree 45, Weymouth 36: The Wamps edged the Wildcats on the road in Bay State Conference action.

Hingham 51, Plymouth North 19: The Harbormen won a Patriot League match.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Braintree 7, Newton North/South 0: Meghan Ceriani and Fiona Holland each scored twice as the Wamps (8-2-1) won at home. Eva Surette posted the shutout, and Cassidy Gibbons and Jackie McGonigle each scored her first varsity goal.

Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake 6, Quincy/North Quincy 0: Jules Connors and Caitlin Dilley each scored twice, and Calliegh Vurpillatte and Grace Keshishian (first varsity goal) also found the net for WHSL (7-3). Sadie Watchorn posted her second straight shutout.

Hingham 9, Scituate 6: Caroline Doherty had six goals as the Harborwomen (7-5-1) won at home. Maggie Lovering scored twice for the Sailors (3-9).

Hanover 3, Norwell/Abington 2 (OT): Sarah Long had a pair of goals, including the overtime winner. Long's first goal tied the game in the third period. Vanessa Federico also scored in the win. Calli Pineau and Penny Saich scored for the Clippers (7-4) in the loss.

Milton 4, Wellesley 0: Lila Chamoun posted the shutout as the Wildcats (9-1-3) won at home.

Weymouth/Rockland 2, Natick 1 (OT): The Wildcats evened their record at 5-5-2.

Duxbury 3, Pembroke 0: The Dragons improved to 13-0.

Canton 6, Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro 0: The Bulldogs improved to 9-2-2.

LaSalle Academy (R.I.) 5, Notre Dame Academy 2: NDA (7-4) lost to an out-of-state opponent.

Plymouth North/South 3, Marshfield 2 (OT): The co-op won in overtime.

BOYS HOCKEY

Thayer Academy 4, Tabor 0: Junior Josh Halliday had a goal and two assists for the Tigers. Colin Richard, Shane Taddia and Brady Kudrick all had solo tallies.

Oliver Ames 4, King Philip 4: Dan Paul scored twice, and Jack Corey and Pat DeLoughrey added goals as the Tigers skated to a tie.

Norwell 3, Plymouth North 2: Timmy Ward scored twice, and Austin Shea had the eventual game-winner for the Clippers (12-1).

Duxbury 5, Silver Lake 0: Anderson Kilbourne had 2 goals and 2 assists to lead the Dragons (9-4-2). Brendan Bonner, Brady Walsh and David Pittenger (first of his varsity career) added goals.

Pembroke 2, Plymouth South 2: Brendan Abban and Kevin Picariello scored as the Titans (6-4-1) skated to a tie with South at Armstrong Arena.

Rockland 3, Middleboro 2: Logan Murphy, Patrick McGuirk and Bryce Marrero scored for the Bulldogs (5-8-1), and Sean Geary had a pair of assists. Joseph Dow made 20 saves.

Milton 4, Wellesley 2: Sean McDougall scored twice, and Harrison Hinckle and Owen McHugh added goals as the Wildcats (5-6-1) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Boston Latin 3, Hanover 2: The Hawks (3-7-3) lost their third straight.

Scituate 6, Quincy 0: The Sailors (9-3-2) blanked the Presidents at home as Teagan Pratt scored twice and Thomas McMellen recorded the shutout.

Marshfield 8, Bridgewater Raynham 1: The Rams (11-1-1) won a non-league road game.

Canton 6, Taunton 0: The Bulldogs (11-2) won at home.

Upper Cape Tech 4, Blue Hills 1: The Warriors (3-9) lost at home.

Archbishop Williams 3, Arlington Catholic 2: Goalie Phil Coleman notched the win for the visiting Bishops (9-4).

Braintree 9, Newton North 1: The visiting Wamps improved to 6-3-1 overall, 6-1 in the Bay State Conference.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Blue Hills 51, Tri-County 35: Bella Sulfaro had 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Bridget Devine, a junior from Braintree, and Ally Johnson, a freshman from Holbrook, each added 12 points as the host Warriors (10-2) qualified for the MIAA playoffs.

Fontbonne Academy 73, New Mission 28: Lilly Blow scored 16 points to lead four players in double-figures as the Ducks won on the road. Tressa Murphy added 12 points, and Ava Donoghue and Jess Laflamme each chipped in 10 for Fontbonne, which had 29 assists and 23 steals.

West Bridgewater 45, Bishop Connolly 21: Amanda Jacques (13 points) and Grace Polen (12 points) led the way for the Wildcats while Mia Harrington chipped in 6 points.

Upper Cape 39, South Shore Tech 32: Abby Pattison scored 10 points and Mia Bradshaw added 9, but the Vikings (10-2) saw their 10-game winning streak snapped on the road.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Norwell 63, Plymouth South 61 (OT): Matt Leaver (25 points) hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to lift the Clippers to a non-league home win. Ryan Luccarelli (14 points) and Ronan Coffey (13) also starred.

West Bridgewater 68, Bishop Connolly 43: The Wildcats improve to 8-2.

Westport 72, Holbrook 57: In the home loss, the Bulldogs got big games from Armani Perkins (20 points) and Owen Burke (18 points). Allen Brown and Jalik Fernandes each added 7 points.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS

Pembroke/Silver Lake 134.4, Scituate 128.9: Kenzie Mackinaw won all four events -- vault (9.15), uneven bars (8.7), floor (9.2) and beam (8.3) -- for Pembroke/Silver Lake.

Bridgewater-Raynham/West Bridgewater 145.25, Norton 136.85: Freshman Lily Moreira had her career high and top scores of the meet on beam (9.3) and floor (9.4) to help B-R/WB post its highest point total of the season. Senior captain Katie Russo scored a career-high 9.5 on bars to win the event, and junior Lexi Fabrizio had the top score on vault with 9.1.
