High school scoreboard update: Hornell, Wellsville area teams get ready for sectionals

The winter sports season is coming to a close and the local teams are starting to make a heavy push towards the start of Sectionals.

Wrestling Sectionals began this weekend while the Steuben County Basketball tournaments start this week as the playoffs officially begin.

Here are high school results for the final two weeks of the regular season in all sports, listed by date, by sport.

A-A: Trailed 27-12 before the Eagles scored 21 unanswered points. Kanye Cumberbatch (138) won a decision 5-3, then Ben Lloyd (145) and Scott Mills (152) scored pins during the rally.

D: Gavin Hart won a 13-6 decision, his 100th varsity victory. Elijah Bender and Brycen Lemmon won by fall, Ryan Burley by technical fall. The Mustangs will wrestle next at the Section V Class B1 Championships at Wayne.

BH: Damien Hall (160) began a string of 28 unanswered points for the Rams which closed the match, with a win by major decision. Austin Thorius (172), Brock Brazie (189), Darrell Hoad (215) and Connor Gleason (285) followed with pins.

A-G: Pins by Cameron King (145) and Hunter Rumfola (152) in back-to-back matches put Avon-Geneseo up 24-6.

C-G: Section V's Division II Dual Meet champions were ahead 40-6 after scoring 34 unanswered points, including a major decision for Austin Hall (118) and a pin by Luke Kilmer (145) in 1:05.

A-H: Peyton Hoad (110) pinned his opponent at 5:12.

A-A: Eagles trailed by 24 points until pins by Riley McMichael (145), Ben Lloyd (152) and Scott Mills (160), followed by three forfeit wins.

C-G: Section V Division 2 Dual Meet champion led 15-6 after Ashton Davis (132) defeated Greg Hargrave, 3-2. Zavier deJesus-Remchuck pinned his opponent in 1:04.
