Cleveland Glenville 25, St. Vincent-St. Mary 0

The visiting Tarblooders outgained the Irish 300-83 in total yards of offense Thursday night in the season opener for both teams.

Glenville junior D’Shawntae Jones ran for three touchdowns and 140 yards on 15 carries. Senior J’Vaughn Goodson chipped in one touchdown and 36 yards on four carries.

“We just gotta block and run the rock,” Glenville coach Ted Ginn Sr. “That is our bread and butter. We can do other things, but to have a great football team you gotta be able to run the rock. That is what we hang our hat on.”

Goodson opened the scoring with a 20-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Jones added a 28-yard TD run and a 1-yard TD run before halftime. Jones sprinted 44-yards for his final TD in the third quarter.

Glenville’s defense limited STVM senior tailback Santino Harper to 41 yards on 14 carries. The Tarblooders defense features senior linebacker and Ohio State recruit Arvell Reese and junior defensive back Bryce West, who has college scholarship offers from Ohio State and Georgia.

“We have been working hard since January,” Ginn said. “Last year kind of stung when we lost in the playoffs [in the third round to Youngstown Ursuline].”
