High school sports: Forest topples Lake Weir in boys basketball

The Forest boys basketball team won for the seventh time in eight games and snapped the 13-game winning streak of rival Lake Weir with a 57-32 defeat of the visiting Hurricanes on Monday night.

Tayvion Jones (9 points, 4 rebounds) led FHS (15-6), while LWHS (14-4) was paced by Tyrone Smith with 17 points, 6 rebounds and Jordan Gimenez with 15 points, 3 rebounds.

Forest will host Williston on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., while Lake Weir will visit Clermont East Ridge on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Redeemer Christian 62, OCA 44: At Redeemer, the hosts were led by Andrew Parker (21 points) and Chris Rodriguez (13 points). Redeemer (13-5) was tp travel to Belleview on Tuesday at 7 p.m., while the Crusaders (5-9) have no more games listed on their schedule.

Meadowbrook 59, Countryside Christian 33: At Meadowbrook, Coy Sizemore (27 points), Will Henry (14 points) and Jacob Stewart (11 points) led the Mustangs. Meadowbrook (16-5) will next compete in the FCAL playoffs.

Girls basketball

Vanguard 53, Williston 32: At VHS, the Knights were paced by Jadah Kingcade (18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists), Rain Smith (14 points), Jyla Gunsby (13 points, 11 rebounds), Diana Gegaj (6 points, 3 steals) and Janareia Suggs (2 points, 3 rebounds). Vanguard is 10-11.

Meadowbrook 43, Redeemer Christian 29: The Mustangs overcame a 4-point halftime deficit to advance to the FCAL South final.

Angel Ross (10 points) and Lanina Murillo (10 points) paced Meadowbrook, while Becca DiBlasi (14 points) and Sadie Wilke (9 points, 19 rebounds) led the Lions.

Meadowbrook (12-4) will play Jacksonville Beaches Chapel in the FCAL South final on Friday at 3 p.m., while Redeemer (9-9) will compete in the District 5-2A tournament next week.

Dunnellon 54, St. John Lutheran 20: At St. John, the Tigers used a 28-5 second quarter to pull away. DHS (21-2) will visit Belleview on Wednesday at 6 p.m., while the Saints (0-14) will host Belleview on Thursday at 6 p.m.
