—Cathedral Prep 5, Grove City 0 — At Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, the Ramblers swept the Eagles in the other semifinal match.

Anna Poranski defeated Macy Matson at No. 1 singles in a rematch of the past two District 10 singles championship matches.

Singles: Poranski def. Matson, 6-3, 6-4; Anne Marie Prichard def. Cana Severson, 6-1, 6-0; Sophia Glance def. Ella West, 6-0, 6-0. Doubles: Finleigh Handzel-Margaret Prichard def. Jane Coulter-Emily Williams, 6-1, 6-0; Sophie Falvo-Lilli Beuchert def. Ava Dlugonski-Joella Bandi, 6-3, 6-1.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

—West Middlesex 26, Lakeview 31 — At West Middlesex, the Reds clinched the Region 1 title with a 5-point win over the Sailors.

AnnaSophia Viccari (20:03.8) and Lia Bartholomew (20:17.8) finished first and second, respectively for West Middlesex while Ella Bartholomew placed fourth in 20:56.5.

Kendall Emmert clocked in at 20:55.9 to place third for Lakeview and Alaina Peltonen was fifth in 23:13.6.

—Slippery Rock 20, Sharon 42 — At Buhl Park, the Rockets captured seven of the top 10 spots to beat Sharon.

Sharon senior ace Abby Douglas clocked in at 20:36 to finish first.

Slippery Rock sophomore Tessa Szymanski (20:57) finished second, followed by teammates Lexi Doerflinger, Raely Fajohn, and Leah Perez.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

—West Middlesex 16, Lakeview 40 — At West Middlesex, Luke Schneider (17:33.5), Nick Varga (17:57.2), Giovanni Rococi (17:57.8), and Dennis Jones (18:31.5) captured the top four spots as the Big Reds clinched the Region 1 championship.

Phil Peltonen led the way for Lakeview with a fifth-place finish in 18:47.3.

—Slippery Rock 15, Sharon 50 — At Buhl Park, the Tigers did not field a full team.

Slippery Rock junior Viktor Zahn (17:37), Anthony Robare (18:15), and Leshan Chen (18:49) captured the top three spots.

Sharon freshman Justin Sims clocked in at 19:13 to place fourth.

BOYS SOCCER

—Mercer 7, Sharpsville 3 — At the Mercer Soccer Field, the Mustangs came away with another victory. But one Blue Devils made his way into the record books.

Sharpsville's Rylan Piccirilli scored twice and Liam Campbell rounded out the scoring for the Blue Devils.

Piccirilli scored his 29th goal of the season, setting the single-season record at Sharpsville. The previous holder of the title was current Blue Devils head coach Chris Frye.

Mercer stats were not reported.

—Slippery Rock 1, Hickory 0 — Under the lights at Hornet Stadium, Slippery Rock grabbed the Region 2 win in a thriller.

The Rockets, which clinched at least a share of the Region 1 title with the win, scored with 53 seconds left in regulation to grab the victory.

Gavin Siegfried fired in the game-winner. Connor Wallace made five saves in goal for the Rockets.

Hickory's Matt Maitland recorded six saves.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

—Slippery Rock 3, Wilmington 0 — At "The Rock Box" in Slippery Rock, the Rockets posted a 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 Region 3 sweep over the Hounds (3-6, 7-11).

GIRLS SOCCER

—Slipper Rock 5, Greenville 1 — At Slippery Rock High School, the Rockets earned a split of the Region 2 title with Hickory.

The Rockets got two goals from Hannah Plunkard and one each from Eve Miller, Brooke Arblaster and Ella Thimons.

Either Bella or Sophia Whiteman scored for the Trojans. A first name was not provided.

THURSDAY

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

—Hickory 3, Grove City 0 — At Grove City, Raeley Gargano had 10 kills and 13 assists to lead the Hornets (3-5, 8-8) to the Region 5 sweep over the Eagles, 25-18, 25-23, 25-13.

Grove City dropped to 1-8 in the region and 4-9 overall with the loss.

Hickory: Bella Multari 13 assists; Adalyn Duncan 8 kills; Madison Trimboli 9 blocks. Grove City: Delaney Callahan 7 kills; Grayson Cook 7 points; Brooke Hovis 7 digs; Jaya Persinger 13 asssits; Addi Dannels 5 points.

Game scores were 25-21, 25-14, and 25-16.

BOYS SOCCER

—Slippery Rock 2, Grove City 1 — Under the lights at Troy Alan Stadium in Slippery Rock, the Rockets fired in a pair of first-half goals and held on for the Region 2 victory.

Soccer and football standout Nick Kingerski gave Slippery Rock a 1-0 lead with 32:40 left in the first half.

Gavin Siegfried made it 2-0 for the Rockets with 24:28 left before the break.

Grove City scored its lone goal with 5:25 left in the first half. GC did not report stats.

—Mercer 7, Commodore Perry 0 — At Sheakleyville, the defending District 10 Class 1A champion Mustangs posted a shutout against the Panthers in Region 1 play.

Mercer and Wilmington are Region 1 co-champions.

FOOTBALL

—Farrell 41, Slippery Rock 0 — At the Pegues Sports Complex in Farrell, Kylon Wilson scored four touchdowns as the Region 1 champion Steelers (7-0, 8-1) rolled past the Rockets (3-4, 5-4) in the Region 3 contest.

Wilson had a pair of 3-yard touchdown runs, a 7-yard TD run, and caught a 72-yard touchdown pass from Kabron Smith.

Smith also threw a 10-yard scoring strike to Danny Odem III and Marion Norris returned a fumble two yards for a touchdown.

Smith was 17-of-20 for 275 yards with two touchdown passes and one interception. Wilson had nine catches for 214 yards. Brandon Chambers was Farrell's leading rusher with 64 yards on 17 carries.

Smith has thrown for 1,683 yards this season while Wilson has 857 receiving yards.

Slippery Rock star quarterback William Mokel (1,604 passing yards this season) was injured in the game and Rockets' backup QB Eli Anderson was also out for the game.

Mokel was 4-of-9 for 19 yards while Sal Mineo was 1-of-4 for eight yards with two interceptions. Mineo had 31 rushing yards on 10 carries and Sam Schwartz pulled in two catches for 18 yards.

—Cambridge Springs 32, Mercer 22 — At Cambridge Springs, the Mustangs fell to 5-2 in Region 1 and 6-3 overall with the loss to the Blue Devils (5-2, 6-3).

Nic Michael (1-yard run), Daemyin Mattocks (14-yard run), and Troy Bachman (60-yard catch) scored for Mercer.

CROSS COUNTRY

MERCER COUNTY INVITATIONAL

The Lakeview boys and Slippery Rock girls captured the team titles at Saturday's Mercer County Invitational at Pymatuning State Park. The event was hosted by Jamestown this year.

The annual meet is a final tune-up for the District 10 Championships, which are set for 9 a.m. this Saturday at the Ed Myer Complex in Titusville.

BOYS

Lakeview (77) grabbed the team championship to outdistance Reynolds (91), Grove City (93), Sharpsville (103), and Slippery Rock (126).

Slippery Rock junior Viktor Zahn captured the individual title in a time of 17:45 while Mercer sophomore Luke Childers was runner-up in 18:11. Wilmington freshman Tully Caiazza (18:23) placed third.

Sharpsville sophomore Jonathan Bissell finished fourth in 18:29 and Grove City freshman Ira Graham was fifth in 18:41.

GIRLS

Slippery Rock (55) raced to the team title ahead of Hickory (88), Lakeview (90), Sharpsville (110), and Grove City (114).

Jamestown sophomore ace Karis McElhaney rolled to the individual championship in 19:58. Sharon senior Abby Douglas finished second in 21:01.

Rounding out the top five were Slippery Rock sophomore Tessa Szymanski (21:20), Greenville senior Megan Ickes (21:27), and Lakeview freshman Kendall Emmert (21:31).

District 10 Class 2A Playoffs

1st Round

—Harbor Creek 4, Grove City 0 — At Titusville High School, the Huskies ousted the Eagles from the playoffs with a shutout victory.

Destiny Miller scored a pair of goals to lead HC. Reese Weismiller and Leya Bretz had the other goals.Mariska Habursky, Ellie Surovick, Lexa Maloney, and Bella Infantino had assists. Trista Maloney posted the shutout in goal.

The Huskies will play Cathedral Prep in Thursday's District 10 quarterfinals.

1st Round

—Grove City 3, Franklin 2 — At Titusville, the Eagles edged the Knights to advance to the D-10 quarterfinals.

Grove City led 1-0 and scored twice in the second half to earn the win.

The Eagles did not report stats to The Herald.

Grove City (14-4-1) faces top-seeded Fairview (12-1-4) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

—Slippery Rock had a bye into the quarterfinals. The Rockets will square off against the Warren Dragons on Wednesday.
