BOYS BASKETBALL

—Grove City 53, Oil City 39 — At "The House of Hustle" in Oil City, the Region 5 Eagles (2-2) evened their slate at .500 with the win over the Region 6 Oilers (3-2).

GC led 12-7 after one quarter and 23-13 at halftime. The Eagles held a 30-26 scoring edge in the second half.

Brett Loughry bucketed 15 points to pace Grove City, Nathan Greer scored 12, Landon Ferguson bucketed 10, and Jimmy Irani contributed eight points.

Cam Vanwormer led Oil City with 14 points. Oilers' footballs star Ethen Knox had eight points and Jake Hornbeck chipped in six markers.

—Cathedral Prep 54, Slippery Rock 34 — At the Hagerty Family Events Center in Erie, the Region 7 Ramblers moved to 3-0 on the young season with a win over the Region 5 Rockets (1-2).

Cathedral Prep only led 13-10 at the end of the opening quarter and 25-18 at the break. The Ramblers pulled away by outscoring Slippery Rock 17-9 in the third quarter.

Semontae Lofton fired in 17 points (three treys) for Cathedral Prep, Tavion Spencer added a dozen points, and Jake Sambuchino chipped in nine.

For Slippery Rock, Dylan Gordon drilled three treys en route to 14 points, Levi Prementine bucketed nine, Jacob Wolak scored six, and Elam Pyle contributed five points.

—Sharon 65, Mercer 50 — At Mercer, coach Louis Brown's Sharon High Tigers moved to 3-2 with the non-region win over the Mustangs (2-2).

Mercer held a slim 17-16 lead after eight minutes, but the Tigers took a 35-24 lead into the locker room at the break after outscoring the Mustangs 19-7 in the second frame.

The Tigers held off the Mustangs by posting a 30-26 scoring edge in the second half.

Santino Piccirilli led Region 5 Sharon with 14 points while Mister Ham, Derek Douglas, Garrett Hoffman, and Owen Schenker all added 11 points.

Jake Mattocks had a game-high 16 points for Region 2 Mercer, Daemyin Mattocks scored 11, and Bubba Palmer contributed eight markers.

—West Middlesex 36, Mercer 30 — At Mercer, the third quarter was the difference as the Reds (1-0, 2-3) edged the Mustangs (0-1, 1-4) in Region 1 play.

WM held a slim 17-16 lead at the break and outscored Mercer 9-4 in the third. Both teams scored 10 points over the final eight minutes.

Emma Mild led the Reds with 12 points, Caitlin Stephens scored 10, and Sloan Mild chipped in six points.

Pressley Washil and Anna Allen had nine points each for Mercer and Audrey Allen contributed six markers.

—Lakeview 69, Farrell 29 — At Stoneboro, Emma Marsteller had 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals and Kelsey Seddon scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Sailors (1-0, 3-2) topped the Steelers (0-1, 0-3) in a Region 1 clash.

Lakeview pulled away by outscoring Farrell 22-8 in the second quarter.

Leigha Martsteller aad Amber Woods added eight points each for the Sailors and Jordan Olson had six rebounds.

Damerra Thomas fired in a game-high 20 points for Farrell. She also had six boards.

—Greenville 59, Grove City 28 — At "The Eagles' Nest" in Grove City, the defending District 10 Class 3A champion Trojans (1-0, 3-0) rolled to the Region 4 win.

Greenville led 17-4 after eight minutes of play and was off to the races.

Anna Harpst fired in 18 points for Greenville, Reese Schaller scored 15, Grace Cano bucketed 14, and Josie Lewis added eight points.

Lewis also dished out nine assists while Schaller grabbed seven rebounds and Cano and Lewis had five boards each.

Delaney Callahan led the way for Grove City (0-1, 2-2) with 17 points. The next top scorer was Piper Como with three points.

—Meadville 59, Slippery Rock 34 — At "The House of Thrills" in Meadville on Wednesday, Alex Gallagher scored 17 points to lead four players in double digits as the Bulldogs (2-4) grabbed the non-region win.

Marlaya McCoy (16 points), Megan Puleio (14) and Sydney Burchard (10) were the others to reach double figures in scoring for Meadville, which buried nine treys in the game.

Julia Coffaro and Libby Campbell had eight points each for the Rockets (0-5) and Madison Romanovich contributed seven points.

Chase Miller fired in 21 points to lead Cochranton, which drained 11 treys in the contest. Dawson Carroll added 16 points and Landon Homa 14.

Elijah Gist paced GJR with 21 points while Marquis Lias and Jayden Robinson scored 12 points each.

BOYS BASKETBALL

—Mercer 66, Jamestown 34 — At "The Fish Tank" in Jamestown, the Region 2 Mustangs improved to 3-2 with a victory against the Region 1 Muskies (2-2).

Jamestown got off to a bad start and trailed 18-3 at the end of the opening quarter and 28-12 at the break.

Daemyin Mattocks rifled in 18 points for Mercer and Jake Mattocks scored 10. Also, Braden Balaski and Nathan Haines added nine points each.

Cameron Keyser led Jamestown with 15 points, which included 11-of-12 marksmanship from the free-throw line. Lucas Popielarcheck contributed eight points.

—Mercyhurst Prep 47, Grove City 46 — At Grove City, the Eagles (2-3) missed three shots in the final 8.3 seconds and dropped a non-region heartbreaker to the Lakers (2-3).

Mercyhurst Prep led 26-20 at the break and GC cut the lead to 35-32 after three quarters. The Eagles outscored the Lakers 14-12 over the final eight minutes, but missed those crucial shots at the end..

Derek Bly (13 points), David Bahm (12), and Tanner Ashton (11) scored in double digits for Region 4 Mercyhurst Prep.

Brett Loughry fired in a game-high 18 points for Region 5 Grove City, Gavin Lutz scored 11, and Jimmy Irani added seven points.

—Rocky Grove 43, Lakeview 35 — At Rocky Grove, the Region 1 Orioles (3-2) defeated Region 2 Lakeview (3-3).

RG held a slim 15-13 lead at the break, but outscored the Sailors 28-22 in the second half.

D'Andre Whitman paced Rocky Grove with 14 points, Quinn Ritchey scored nine on a trio of treys, and Evan Wolfgong contributed six markers.

Cameron Pence led Lakeview with 13 points, Cody Fagley scored nine, and Owen Dye had seven.

—Armstrong 67, Slippery Rock 45 — At Slippery Rock, Cadin Olsen rifled in 32 points to lift Armstrong (6-1) past the Rockets (1-3).

Armstrong beat Grove City earlier this season. Its lone loss is against New Castle.

Jack Valasek contributed 10 points for Armstrong and Ian Olsen scored eight.
