High school sports roundup: Forest tops North Marion in boys basketball

The Forest boys basketball team defeated host North Marion, 48-40, on Tuesday night to split the season series with the Colts. The Wildcats have now won 6-of-7.

NMHS (11-7), which won by eight at FHS on Dec. 16, was led by Jeriahmiah Mack (12 points, 4 rebounds), Titus Williams (11 points, 3 rebounds) and Elija Walton (13 rebounds). The Colts will visit Vanguard on Friday at 7:30 p.m., while the Wildcats (14-6) will host Lake Weir on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

West Port 81, Belleview 65: At WPHS, the Rattlers were led by Cori Johnson (32 points) and Jadiel Jimenez (12 points). The Wolf Pack (6-10) will visit Lake Weir on Wednesday at 7 p.m., while BHS (4-13) will visit Leesburg on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Lake Weir 58, St. John Lutheran 56: At St. John, Tyrone Smith (17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists), Amari Kiner (16 points, 3 rebounds) and Jordan Gimenez (10 points, 4 steals) paced the Hurricanes. LWHS (12-3) will host West Port on Wednesday at 7 p.m., while the Saints (2-11) will visit Meadowbrook on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Trinity Catholic 63, Trenton 32: At Trinity, the Celtics won for the eighth time in nine games. TC (15-3) will host The Rock on Friday at 7 p.m.

HEART 70, OCA 34: At OCA, the Falcons’ Michael Lusher scored 22 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the visitors.

Josh King (22 points, 7 assists, 6 steals) and Kyle Warner (15 points, 3 steals) also had big nights for HEART (9-6), which will visit Winter Park International Christian School on Tuesday at 7 p.m. OCA (4-8) has no more regular-season games listed on its schedule.

Redeemer Christian 50, Legacy Charter 45: At Legacy Charter, the visitors used a 13-3 third quarter to earn the come-from-behind victory. Andrew Powers (13 points, 3 rebounds) and Grant Phillips (11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) led Redeemer (11-4), which will visit Cedar Key on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Girls basketball

HEART 54, OCA 33: At OCA, Katie Tagliaferro scored a team-high 16 points, including the 2,000th of a career that has been played for St. John Lutheran and HEART, to lead the Falcons.

Alyssa Keister (10 points, 10 steals, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks) and Kelsey Bowen (13 points, 3 steals) also had strong games for HEART (21-5), which will visit Winter Park International Christian on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. OCA (4-6) has no more regular-season games listed on its schedule.

Dunnellon 66, Meadowbrook 45: At Meadowbrook, Angel Ross (22 points, 9 rebounds) and Soleil Smith (9 points, 6 rebounds) led the hosts. DHS (17-2) will host North Marion on Wednesday at 6 p.m., while the Mustangs (9-4) will host St. John on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Buchholz 46, West Port 40: At BHS, the Wolf Pack (7-7) will host Belleview on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.



Girls soccer

North Marion 2, Vanguard 1: At VHS, in a game that saw all of the scoring in the first half, NMHS (8-9) will now move on to visit Belleview on Thursday at 6 p.m. VHS (9-5) has no more regular-season games listed on its schedule.

Forest 0, West Port 0: At WPHS, the Wolf Pack (11-5-4) have no more regular-season games listed on their schedule. The Wildcats (8-7-2) will visit Lake Weir on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Lake Weir 3, Dunnellon 0: At LWHS, the Hurricanes (3-9-1) will host Forest on Thursday at 5 p.m., while the Tigers (2-12) will host Calvary Christian Academy on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Boys soccer

Belleview 3, North Marion 2: At BHS, the Rattlers overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to earn the win. Belleview (8-7-3) will visit Tavares on Thursday at 7 p.m., while NMHS (3-10-1) will host Vanguard on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Villages 4, Forest 1: At FHS, Ryan Gorman netted a goal and keeper Robert Smith saved a penalty kick for the Wildcats (11-6-1), who will visit Lake City Columbia on Thursday at 7:20 p.m.

Lake Weir 6, Dunnellon 1: At LWHS, the Hurricanes (6-10) will visit Forest on Friday at 5:30 p.m., while DHS (1-15) will host Interlachen on Friday at 6 p.m.

Buchholz 6, Trinity Catholic 0: At BHS, the Celtics (9-3-1) will host West Port on Thursday at 6 p.m.
