High School Sports: Schedules, results for boys, girls holiday basketball tournaments
Marion County, get ready for a week filled with high school basketball. Six local schools will play in holiday tournaments for the second week in a row.
Vanguard and North Marion boys teams will participate in the 48th annual Kingdom of the Sun tournament in Ocala. The remaining schools will play in Orlando, Tampa and South Carolina. Scroll to the bottom for full updates of Kingdom of the Sun scores and updates.

Tampa Bay Invitational: Forest defeats Riverview, 48-45
Forest completes a 14-point comeback to beat the Sharks by three. The Wildcats advance to Friday's finale.
Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational: Monterey defeats Trinity Catholic, 60-51
The Celtics fall to the Tennessee school by nine points. This loss snaps a four-game winning streak for Trinity Catholic who had Heaven Sanders score a team-high 17 points. Rose Gravel grabs her third double-double of the season going for 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Springstead Holiday Tournament: Crystal River defeats Vanguard, 52-50
Kristen Moore scored a season-high 16 points in a heartbreaking loss decided at the buzzer. Jyla Gunsby continues to stuff the stat sheet for Vanguard with four points, five assists, six rebounds, four blocks, and two steals. Makiya Mitchell breaks out of her slump with 13 points and two steals. Aniyah Hope grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. plus two blocks, and seven points. Freshman Kenaria Dowdy scored six points and had three assists.
Florida Prospects Christmas Tournament: Ocoee defeats West Port, 30-26
Mia Lake scored a team-high 18 points, with six steals, five rebounds, and a block. Calise Smith chipped in six points and tied Trinity Goodson for second on the team in rebounds with four.

Kingdom of the Sun: Vanguard defeats North Marion 51-44
The Knights take down the Colts on the opening night of the Kingdom of the Sun and first of two meetings this season. D’mareon Manning scores 24 points during the Kingdom of the Sun’s most packed game. Caleb Rollerson, Elija Walton and Jermaine Jackson scored 10 points apiece in the loss.
University Christian defeats Trinity Catholic 81-48
Celtics continue their rough start to the season, having lost three out of their last four games.
Wednesday
Indian Rocks Christmas Tournament: Seacrest Country Day defeats Dunnellon, 49-45
For the Tigers, sophomore Eli Nelson scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Aramys Rodriguez stuffed the stat sheet with six points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and one block. Sean Martin scored 10 points.
Hitchcock's Challenge: Santa Fe defeats Trinity Catholic, 68-30
The Celtics fall to Santa Fe in the first round.
Kingdom of the Sun: P.K. Yonge defeats Vanguard, 53-48
The Blue Wave settles over Vanguard after a back and forth second half. Moses Horne led P.K. Yonge with 20 points. The Knights were led by Jamia Gallon's 16. Jewmaris Jones scored 15 for Vanguard.
Kingdom of the Sun: North Marion defeats Hawthorne, 38-37
The Colts close out Hawthorne in the fourth quarter to win their second-round consolation game.
Bobcat Classic, Hilton Head, S.C.: Forest defeats Section (AL) 65-32
The Wildcats handle business in South Carolina, beating Section by 33.
