High school sports scores for the week of Feb. 20-26 across the Treasure Coast

Friday's scores

Softball

South Fork 8, Jensen Beach 5: Katie Kidwell struck out 16 Falcon hitters and made an early lead stick to lead the Bulldogs (2-0) to a road win.

South Fork scored two runs in the first and second innings to hold a 4-0 lead but Jensen Beach senior and Stetson signee Annalise Buncy hit a three-run home run in the third inning to draw the Falcons (1-1) within a run.

Alice Dewaters sparked a two-run fourth for the Bulldogs with a triple as part of a two-hit night for the sophomore.

Jensen Beach made it a 1-run game in the sixth scoring two runs but South Fork answered right back with two more runs in the seventh and Kidwell wrapped up the game with two strikeouts in the bottom of the inning.

In a pitching matchup of two of the area's best, Mallory Wheeler struck out 12 in a complete game effort for Jensen Beach.

Emma Ortiz went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for South Fork.

John Carroll Catholic 17, Morningside Academy 0 (5 innings): Makayla Ortiz went 4-for-4 with a double and in the circle struck out seven, allowing only one hit to lead the Rams (2-1) in the win. Gianna Morales went 3-for-4 with a double an Sammi Rychter went 2-for-2 with a triple for John Carroll.

Sebastian River 15, Cocoa 4 (5 innings): Amonty Johnson went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple and drove in two runs and Jasmin Huber went 3-for-3 with three doubles and an RBI to lead the Sharks (3-0). Rily Biggers went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, Grace Kapp went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs and Victoria Wehrberger went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI for Sebastian River.

Baseball

Fort Pierce Central 2, Jensen Beach 0: Michael Benedict tossed a three-hit shutout, striking out four and Andrew Solomon had an RBI single in a two-run fourth inning that carried the Cobras (1-1) to victory.

Nathan Gould had two hits and scored a run for Fort Pierce Central.

Centennial 5, South Fork 3: Charlie Alonso went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and picked up the final two outs on the mound in the seventh inning to earn the save for the Eagles (2-0). Joeshua Lopez-Torres went 2-for-4 with an RBI and John Riordan struck out six and didn’t allow an earned run in four innings for Centennial.

Alijah Quintero went 2-for-4 at the plate and on the mound, Conner Wiggins struck out six in three innings and John Roberts struck out four in four innings for South Fork.

Master's Academy 12, Berean Christian 0 (5 innings): Mihir Manerikar struck out seven in four innings and Johnnie Bona worked a scoreless inning as the duo combined on a no-hitter for the Patriots (2-1). Broc Burns had two hits, including a home run, Manerikar went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and CJ Eiswerth also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Master's Academy.

Thursday's scores

Softball

Lincoln Park Academy 15, Martin County 10: Callan Kloeckner went 3-for-3 and hit two solo home runs and scored four runs and Madison Davis also hit a home run and drove in three runs to lead the way for the way for the Greyhounds (2-0). Kaitlyn Ward went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Charlotte Sellers had two hits and scored two runs and Justice Monds had a hit and an RBI for Lincoln Park.

Ciana Vargas went 4-for-5 and scored two runs, Taylor Synowski went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs, Bayli Legg and Bella Waldbauer each had two hits and two RBI and Amelia Hannah and Taylor Patton had a hit and an RBI in the loss for the Tigers (0-2).

Vero Beach 16, Fort Pierce Westwood 1 (4 innings): Dayna Patten had two hits, including a triple and Kylie Williams had two hits, including a double in the win for Vero Beach (2-0). Gabbie Espich and Julia Clemenzi both had triples and Espich earned the win in the circle for Vero.

Henryunia Plain had the only hit of the game for the Panthers (0-2).

John Carroll Catholic 6, Cardinal Newman 1: Cam Haughton struck out eight and didn’t allow an earned run in a complete game effort to lead the Rams (1-1) to victory. Kendra Chapa hit a home run, Briley Orton had two hits, including a triple and Sammi Rychter went 2-for-4 with a double for John Carroll.

Sebastian River 11, Fort Pierce Central 1 (5 innings): Malia Binafif went 2-for-2 with a double and drove in four runs and Victoria Wehrberger struck out nine in a 1-hitter to lead the Sharks (2-0) to victory. Jasmin Huber went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Zoey Vincent went 2-for-2 and scored a run for Sebastian River.

Baseball

Sebastian River 10, Lincoln Park Academy 5: Tyler Jones went 2-for-3 with a home run and drove in two runs to lead the Sharks (2-0) in the win. Thomas Villars went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Ben Zolecki threw 4⅓ innings to pick up the win for Sebastian River on the mound.

Candido Esquivel went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Jonathan Castor had two hits, Steven Dwyer had a double and two RBI and Luke Heisler struck out five in four innings on the mound for the Greyhounds (1-1).

Boys Lacrosse

John Carroll Catholic 11, Jupiter Christian 3: Nico Kelly and Zack Theberge both scored hat tricks in the win for the Rams (2-2). Jordan Capraro and Jackson Miller each scored two goals, Colton Bates added one goal and Ben Bobrick made 15 saves for John Carroll.

Wednesday's scores

Baseball

Centennial 4, Jensen Beach 2: Zach Staples struck out five and allowed two runs in six innings and Isaiah Ramos had a two-run double to help the Eagles (1-0) earn a road win in their season opener over last year’s 4A state runner-up.

Ramos sent a line drive the other way to right field in the second inning that gave Centennial an early 2-0 lead and the Eagles tacked on single runs in the third and fifth innings.

Staples cruised through four innings before Connor Cantillo launched a two-run home run to left to bring the Falcons (0-1) within striking distance in the fifth trailing 4-2.

In the seventh, Jensen Beach loaded the bases with two outs but Centennial reliever Christian Alonso struck out Cian Copeland on a 3-2 pitch to secure the victory.

Jake Breen threw five innings of relief and struck out five, allowing two unearned runs for the Falcons.

Vero Beach 4, Eau Gallie 2: Blake Holshouser struck out seven and allowed two hits in five shutout innings to lead Vero (1-0) to a win in their season opener. Keenan Jabeth went 2-for-3 with a triple, Finley Holmes had a double and scored two runs and Cam Perez had a hit and an RBI for Vero Beach.

Softball

Jensen Beach 4, John Carroll Catholic 0: Mallory Wheeler tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out eight and Izzy Ouelette had two hits and an RBI in the win for the Falcons (1-0). Martha Jones added a double and an RBI and Kylie Antoon drove in two runs for Jensen Beach.

Sophia Loreto threw a complete game, striking out six and allowed one earned run in the loss for the Rams (0-1).

Sebastian River 18, Heritage 2 (4 innings): Victoria Wehrberger went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI and struck out five in a complete game to lead the Sharks (1-0) to a win in its season opener. Amonty Johnson also went 1-for-3 with three RBI, Rily Biggers went 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored three runs and Jazmin Hunt went 1-for-2 with two RBI and scored two runs for Sebastian River.

Boys Lacrosse

South Fork 5, Sebastian River 4: Mitch Maurer, Ethan Mahler, Landen Mezzapelle, Dewey Gosselen and Elliot Nassin all scored a goal each to lead the Bulldogs (1-3) in the win.

Matt Essig scored three goals and Jordan Radock added a goal in the loss for the Sharks (0-2).

Martin County 10, Port St. Lucie 0 (5 innings): Nick Robert blasted a pair of home runs and drove in five to lead the way for the Tigers (2-0). Logan Saake went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Dylan Murphy went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Aidan McGucken struck out five in four innings and Paul Perry had one strikeout as the duo combined for a no-hitter for Martin County.

John Carroll Catholic 10, Fort Pierce Central 4: Tracen Cameron went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Taggert Cameron struck out nine in 4⅔ innings to send the Rams (1-0) to a season-opening win. Anthony Ferraro went 2-for-5 with a double and a triple and drove in two runs, Jaylyn Monds went 1-for-3 with two RBI, Jake Rychter went 2-for-3 with a double and Ryan Chapman struck out three in 2 1/3 innings of relief for John Carroll.

Sebastian River 4, Bayside 3: A sharp ground ball hit by Tyler Jones was misplayed to bring home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to send the Sharks (1-0) to a walk-off win. Calvin Junek tied the game in the sixth with a sacrifice fly and pitched a scoreless inning of relief to earn the win for the Sebastian River, who got four innings and three strikeouts from Kix Hofer and doubles at the plate from Gabriel Burchett and Issac Geller.

Softball

South Fork 5, Okeechobee 2: Abbie Dewaters and Elli Hernandez drove in runs in a five-run sixth innings and Katie Kidwell struck out 12 and didn’t allow an earned run in a complete game effort to lead the Bulldogs (1-0) to victory. Abbey Moore went 2-for-3 and scored a run for South Fork.

Vero Beach 13, Fort Pierce Central 0 (5 innings): Arianna Keyes went 3-for-3 with two triples and three RBI and Dayna Patten went 2-for-4 with four RBI and in the circle struck out eight in a complete game effort to lead the way for Vero (1-0). St. Edward’s 15, Viera 8: Ricky Savage netted five goals to send the Pirates (2-1) to a road victory. Connor O’Brien added three goals and three assists, Will Russell notched two goals and two assists, Ford Norris added a goal and three assists, Reed Sternberg scored a goal and picked up two assists, Luke Herrman, Eli Barin and Keegan Nyman all scored one goal and Kieran Colgan made eight saves in goal for St. Edward’s.

Jensen Beach 13, Wellington 8: Sean Allen scored five goals and picked up three assists to pace the Falcons (2-1). Hudson Wilfong added three goals and three assists, Layton Mannon scored two goals and added two assists, Connor Ferreira scored two goals, Gio Cascione added one goal and Paolo Smith made 12 saves in goal for Jensen Beach.

Martin County 3, Eau Gallie 0 (9 innings): A three-run top of the ninth with RBIs from Stone Preston and Aidan McGucken sent the Tigers (1-0) past last year’s 5A runner-up to a season-opening win. Nick Robert (two innings, four strikeouts), Cody Bennin (three innings, five strikeouts), Alex Diaz (two innings, one strikeout) and Logan Saake (two innings, one strikeout) combined for a two-hit shutout for Martin County.

South Fork 9, Master’s Academy 3: Grant Jones struck out seven in four innings and had a hit and drove in two runs to send the Bulldogs (1-0) to a win in their season opener. John Roberts went 2-for-4, Emory Capps went 1-for-2 with two RBI and Ian Wilson threw three scoreless innings of relief allowing one hit and struck out two for South Fork.

Mihir Manerikar went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the Patriots (0-1).
