High school start times could move later in Howard County

The Howard County Public School System is one of many districts across the country weighing whether to start classes later in the morning for high school students. Later start times are already in place in neighboring Anne Arundel County, and now, the issue appears to be gaining support in Howard County. Parents who registered to speak will get to comment on the issue Tuesday night at the first of two scheduled public hearings. A second hearing is scheduled for Jan. 26. The school system said the public hearings are designed to give parents a say in any plan to adjust class schedules. District officials have been investigating this issue for some time and now believe they're a step closer to putting a plan into writing.
