High school teacher fired after praising antifa: ‘I have 180 days to turn them into revolutionaries’

A California teacher who brandished an antifa flag in his classroom was fired after a video was leaked of him praising the left-wing militant group.

Advanced Placement government teacher Gabriel Gipe's extreme beliefs and classroom activism were exposed in video leaked by conservative watchdog Project Veritas. Gipe admitted to indoctrinating his students and attempting to radicalize them to support Marxism.

“I have 180 days to turn them into revolutionaries. ... Scare the f*** out of them,” Gipe said about the students, according to Project Veritas. “I post a calendar every week. ... I’ve had students show up for protests, community events, tabling, food distribution, all sorts of things. ... When they go, they take pictures, write up a reflection — that’s their extra credit."

Gipe said he gives his students "ideology" quizzes he posts on the classroom wall, adding that he watches the quizzes drift further and further to the left.

“So, they take an ideology quiz, and I put [the results] on the [classroom] wall," he said. "Every year, they get further and further left. ... I'm like, ‘These ideologies are considered extreme, right? Extreme times breed extreme ideologies.’ Right? There is a reason why Generation Z, these kids, are becoming further and further left."

A student complained about an antifa flag hanging in Gipe's classroom, he said. He told the student the flag is meant to make fascists feel uncomfortable.

"If you feel uncomfortable, I don’t really know what to tell you," Gipe said. "Maybe you shouldn’t be aligning with the values that this [antifa flag] is antithetical to."

The teacher made a case for violently overthrowing the U.S. government.

“Like, why aren’t people just taking up arms? Like, why can’t we, you know, take up arms against the state? We have historical examples of that happening and them getting crushed and being martyrs for a cause, and it's like — OK, well, it’s slow going because it takes a massive amount of organization,” he said.

The Natomas Unified School District released a statement regarding the leaked video, announcing it would “place the teacher on unpaid leave and fire the teacher.”

“Yesterday, a group released an undercover video that has been covered extensively. In this video, a teacher at Inderkum High School was recorded sharing his educational approach that is disturbing and undermines the public’s trust,” the statement said. “The district is aware of the approach of the interview and the editing used to create the video. In following the principles of democracy, Natomas Unified staff is following due process, the law, and spent the past two days investigating the alleged teacher actions and his classroom environment.”

“As of today, this teacher was placed on paid leave because of his actions and choices in the classroom," the statement continued. "Natomas Unified will be taking the legally required next steps to place the teacher on unpaid leave and fire the teacher."

Parents were outraged by the video of their children's teacher, voicing their concerns at a Wednesday school board meeting.

“The school district has failed in my opinion because you allowed this indoctrination of Mr. Gabriel Gipe and his political ideology to flirt in his classroom,” said Luis Ortega, a community member whose son recently graduated from the school, according to the New York Post. “You have an opportunity to correct this. Everything has been brought to light, and like everyone is saying, it doesn’t end with Mr. Gabriel Gipe. There are some deep-rooted issues within the district.”

“He was indoctrinating these kids every single day," another attendee of the meeting said. "He was abusing them, scaring them every single day."
