HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: Lady Patriots sweep Dunbar; Lady Eagles top Scott County; Berea splits with Hills; Lady Indians win on road

Apr. 15—The Model Laboratory girls tennis team rolled to a 5-0 win over Paul Laurence Dunbar on Thursday at Eastern Kentucky University.

In singles action, Serena Florell picked up a 6-1 6-1 victory, Maiya Bhandari won 8-1 and Kate Arvin earned an 8-3 victory.

In doubles action, the Lady Patriots didn't drop a game.

Rianna Pais and Lily Meade won 6-0 6-0 and Bella Slinker and Kate Conley won by a score of 8-0.

In the boys match, Dunbar topped Model, 4-1.

Aidan Blakeman (7-5, 7-6), David Tofan (8-6) and Garrett Kidd (8-2) all suffered singles losses.

In doubles action, Model's Keshav Bhandari and Colin Lair won 6-3 7-6 (7-1), but Logan Blakeman and Jacob Gordon suffered an 8-6 loss.

In exhibition action, Cooper Byron and James Grant earned an 8-4 win.

Model is set to return to action Tuesday at Montgomery County.

Lady Eagles win

The Madison Southern girls tennis team earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over Scott County on Thursday in Georgetown.

Kyla Atkins had a 6-4, 6-3 singles victory and the Lady Eagles picked up two doubles victories. Julia Bingham and Carlie Hechemy won 6-1, 6-1, and Anna Seals and Riley Green were victorious, 6-1,6-2.

In boys singles action, John Parker-Harris won 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 while Brayden Eads fell short in three sets — 2-6,6-4,0-1(10-7).

Southern is set to return to action Monday at Frederick Douglass.

Berea splits with Western Hills

The Berea Community tennis team split a pair of matches with Western Hills on Thursday in Frankfort.

The Pirates picked up a 3-2 win, while the Lady Pirates were handed a 5-1 loss.

In boys singles action, Cheydon Lovins topped Collin Armstrong, 8-6, and John Wallhauser defeated Luke Werner, 8-2.

In boys doubles action, Berea's Travis Harris and John Little earned an 8-4 win, while the duos of Greyson Thomason/Caleb Campbell (8-2) and Nate Fairchild/Conner Gilbert (8-1) suffered losses.

Raegan Stepp had the only win for the Lady Pirates. The senior defeated Ally Arnett, 8-2.

In other girls singles action, Aya Fouch and Lesley Morgan both lost by scores of 8-1.

In girls doubles action, Mandy Newman and Adia Fouch fell 8-1, Jillian Whitt and Katie Morgan suffered an 8-2 loss and Haley Campbell and Kaylee Johnson lost 8-6.

Berea is set to return to action Tuesday at Tates Creek

Central splits with Franklin County

The Madison Central tennis teams split a pair of matches on Thursday against Franklin County in Frankfort.

The Lady Indians picked up a 4-1 win, while the Indians were handed a 4-1 loss.

In girls singles action, Central's Jacey Wilson defeated Lakyn Smith, 6-1, 6-4, and Leah Crump defeated Ellie Bevington, 8-3, while Pyper Wasch fell to Sonia Sairajeeu, 8-4.

In girls doubles action, Central's Katie Shaffer and Bethany Burns defeated Katherine Nolan and Sydney Paritt, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0(10-2), and Amanda Beall and Emily Barney defeated Lucy Cunningham and Ella Johnston, 8-0.

In exhibition action, Franklin County's Brett Hall and Savannah Salchi defeated Emily Holston and Abby Morrison, 8-3, while Central's Pyper Wasch and Caroline Christian defeated Mahimasai Gajawada and Shri Balaji, 6-0.

In boys singles action, Central's Brayden Stamm defeated Jonathan Philpot, 8-1. Franklin County's Josiah Russell defeated Jaeden Coons, 6-0, 6-1, and Rishua Patel defeated Central's Caiden Gillum, 8-1.

Franklin County won both boys doubles matches.

Jackson Cantor and Dylan Cantor defeated Tom Morrison and Chandler Smith, 6-2, 6-2, and Nick Kapustey and Dhemian Rodriguez defeated Alex Miceli and Jaxson Young, 8-2.

In exhibition action, Central's Nick Powell and Chandler Smith defeated Daniel Cobb and Cyrus Jaques, 8-1.

Central is set to return to action Tuesday at Lafayette.
