HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP: No. 41 Southeastern baseball nabs upset behind Graca's gem

Age is just a number.

And for the Southeastern Regional baseball team, a seed is also just a number.

The Hawks, who were the No. 41 seed in Division 3 (43 teams made the field), upset No. 24 Triton, 3-2, to advance in the state tournament.

Jared Graca starred in the win. He pitched a complete game with 1 hit allowed while striking out 8. At the plate, he doubled and drove in 2 RBI.

Anthony Musto and Ryan Desmond each had 2 hits. John Graca drove in a run.

The Hawks will look to pull off another upset when they play at No. 9 Ashland on Monday at 4 p.m.

BASEBALL

Barnstable 6, Hingham 4: The Harbormen lost in the Division 1 prelim.

Archbishop Williams 7, Diman 3: The No. 32 Bishops will play top-seeded Austin Prep on Sunday at 1:30 in a Division 3 prelim.

Norwell 3, Dover-Sherborn 2: The No. 39 Clippers knocked off the No. 26 seed in a Division 3 prelim. Norwell will travel to No. 7 Hudson on Monday.

Sturgis East 3, South Shore Tech 2: The Vikings lost in the Division 5 prelim.

Blue Hills 5, Avon 3: The No. 23 Warriors advance to play at No. 10 Granby in the Division 5 Round of 32.

Oliver Ames 2, Amherst-Pelham 1: Nick Clark struck out 15 batters while allowing one hit before handing the ball to Patrick Finnerty, who got the save. Finnerty also tripled. Jake Waxman scored the winning run on an RBI single by Nathan Carpentier, who threw out two runners trying to steal, including the last out of the game. Joe Cicchetti and Jack Richardson had multi-hit games. No. 25 OA will play at No. 8 Westwood on Monday in a Division 2 Round of 32 game.

Medway 6, Middleboro 3: The No. 34 Sachems lost in the Division 3 prelim.

SOFTBALL

Upper Cape Tech 24, South Shore Tech 5: The Vikings lost the Division 5 prelim.

Archbishop Williams 5, West Bridgewater 3: The No. 28 Wildcats put an upset scare into the No. 5 Bishops, but Archies advances to the Division 4 Round of 16. In the win, Shelby Parr had 15 strikeouts. Katie McLeish (3-for-3) and Meg Hansbury (2 hits, 2 RBI) led the offense. Amanda Jacques homered in the loss.

Braintree 16, Malden 0 (5 inn.): Ally McNamee tossed a shutout as the No. 27 Wamps advance to play at No. 6 Central Catholic in the Division 1 Round of 32. The Bishops will host the winner of Sunday's game between No. 12 Whittier and No. 21 Clinton in the Round of 16.

Newton South 5, Brockton 0: The Boxers were eliminated in the Division 1 prelim.

Notre Dame Academy 11, Ursuline Academy 4: The No. 32 Cougars head to top-seeded Billerica on Monday at 4:30 for a Division 2 Round of 32 game.

Milton 2, Pembroke 1: The No. 13 Wildcats (13-6) turned to the bunt to scratch out a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and edge No. 20 Pembroke (14-7) to advance to the Division 2 Round of 16. Milton senior Alona Lynch threw a 2-hitter; Pembroke sophomore Kelly McGee matched that and struck out 12.

Cardinal Spellman 5, Excel Academy 0 (Forfeit): The No. 25 Cardinals will play at No. 8 Triton on Sunday at 11 a.m. in a Division 3 Round of 32 game.

Norwell 2, Sturgis East 0: Maggie Donohue tossed a shutout to lead the No. 31 Clippers over the No. 34 seed. Next up is a trip to second-seeded Greater New Bedford Voke on Monday at 4 p.m.

Bristol Aggie 11, Carver 2: The No. 25 Crusaders couldn't pull off the upset over the No. 8 seed in Division 5.

Plymouth South 4, Westwood 2: Morgan Brenner starred as she had a double, triple and 2 RBI. Elli Cicchetti earned the win on the mound and struck out 6. The No. 28 Panthers advance to play No. 5 Burlington on Tuesday in a Division 2 Round of 32.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Newton North 3, BC High 0: The No. 23 Eagles lost in the Division 1 Round of 32 match.

St. John's Prep 3, Braintree 0: The No. 30 Wamps lost in the Division 1 Round of 32 match.

GIRLS TENNIS

Milton 5, Chicopee 0: No. 26 Milton will travel to No. 7 Melrose on Monday at 4 p.m. for a Division 2 Round of 32 match.
