HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP: All the South Shore scores and highlights

A whopping 57 South Shore teams played in the MIAA state tournament on Monday and there were plenty of highlights.

The biggest might belong to Marshfield's Maija Kastrud. Kastrud scored an overtime goal to lift the girls lacrosse team to a 9-8 thrilling victory over Wachusett in a Division 1 preliminary round game.

Over on the baseball diamond, Milton High showed why it's the No. 1 seed in Division 2. The Wildcats defeated Grafton, 10-3, by an 11-strikeout day from Charlie Walker.

BASEBALL

Granby 7, Blue Hills 0: The No. 23 Warriors lost to the No. 10 seed in the Division 5 Round of 32.

Marblehead 6, Canton 2: Andrew Butler (2 steals, run) and Matt Chafin (RBI) both had 2 hits, but the No. 19 Bulldogs fell to No. 14 in the Division 3 Round of 32.

Westwood 8, Oliver Ames 3: Ryan Finnerty had 2 hits and 2 runs in the loss and also pitched 5⅔ innings of solid relief. Nathan Carpentier had 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Carver 3, Smith Vocational 1: Ray Boutiette belted a home run in the win for the Crusaders. No. 8 Carver will host No. 9 Ayer Shirley on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Division 5 Round of 16.

Milton 10, Grafton 3: Charlie Walker struck out 11 over 6 innings to earn the win. Shea Donovan (2 doubles), Ryan Dexter (2 hits, double) and Marcus Ollivierre (2 hits, walk, 2 runs) led the offense. The top-seeded Wildcats will host the winner of Tuesday's game between No. 17 Tewksbury and No. 16 West Springfield on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Division 2 Round of 16.

Hudson 10, Norwell 1: The No. 39 Clippers fell to the No. 7 seed in Division 3.

Ashland 13, Southeastern 0: The No. 41 Hawks fell.

Apponequet 2, Hanover 0: The No. 15 Hawks lost to the No. 18 seed in the Division 3 Round of 32.

BC High 6, St. Paul 4: The No. 5 Eagles received solid relief pitching from Johnny Duddy and Ronan Donohue in the win while Niko Brini was 2-for-4 (double). BC High will host No. 12 Walpole in a Division 1 Round of 16 game on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Plymouth North 4, Westboro 0:  Alec Peruzzi tossed a shutout (7 hits, 5 strikeouts 0, walks) as the No. 18 Blue Eagles won the road. Connor Mackenzie had 2 hits, including an RBI, and turned a pivotal double play in the sixth inning.

Bridgewater-Raynham 8, Framingham 5: The No. 9 Trojans will host Southeast Conference rival Durfee (No. 25) in the Division 1 Round of 16 on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Braintree 11, Beverley 2: Jordan Gorham struck out 13 batters over 6 innings of 1-hit ball and was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double to lead the No. 10 Wamps (16-5). Jack Fitzgerald was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Josh Donovan Aiden Aubertine each had two hits. Braintree travels to No. 7 Westford on Wednesday at 5 p.m. for a Division 1 Round of 16 game.

Falmouth 7, Scituate 6: The No. 12 Sailors dropped a back-and-forth game in Division 2 action.

SOFTBALL

Southeastern 1, Pittsfield 0: Madeline Hornung tossed a shutout as the No. 18 Hawks advance to the Division 3 Round of 16. Southeastern will play at No. 2 Greater New Bedford Voke.

Wakefield 7, Stoughton 2: The No. 16 Black Knights lost to the No. 17 seed in the Division 2 Round of 32.

Norton 6, Hanover 5: The No. 17 Hawks (13-8) lost to the No. 16 seed in a Division 3 Round of 32 matchup. Freshman Noey Giardina had 2 hits and 2 steals. Sophomores Kaelyn Chase and Erin Condon each had 2 hits. McKenzie Foley, a sophomore, had a triple and 8 defensive plays without an error. Sophomore Abby Smith pitched well in defeat.

Bridgewater-Raynham 12, Lexington 0 (5 inn.): The No. 14 Trojans rolled to the Division 1 Round of 32 win. B-R advances to play No. 3 Taunton in the Round of 16 on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Agawam 4, Oliver Ames 1: Katie Melendy pitched well in the loss (6 innings, 4 hits, 2 earned runs) and added 2 hits and an RBI at the plate in the loss.

Middleboro 8, Montachusett 2: The No. 5 Sachems will host No. 12 Fairhaven on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Division 3 Round of 16.

Narragansett 11, Holbrook 10: The No. 7 Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker in the Division 5 Round of 32.

Central Catholic 5, Braintree 2: The No. 27 Wamps fell short in the upset bid of the No. 6 seed in the Division 1 Round of 32.

Billerica 15, Notre Dame Academy 1: The No. 32 Cougars could not upset the top seed in the Division 2 Round of 32 game.

Greater New Bedford Voke 14, Norwell 1: The No. 31 Clippers couldn't upset the second-seeded Bears in a Division 3 Round of 32 game.

BOYS TENNIS

BC High 5, Newton South 0: The No. 8 Eagles will host No. 9 Needham on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a Division 1 Round of 16 match.

Winchester 5, Quincy 0: The No. 26 Presidents fell to the No. 7 seed.

Hingham 5, Plymouth South 0: The No. 9 Harbormen will host No. 25 Amherst Pelham on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Division 2 Round of 16. Jack Price, Travis Rugg and Thomas Fabrizio all won singles matches. Dominic Kanter/Will Baker and Ben LaRhette/Nick Dubois won doubles matches.

Wakefield 4, Canton 1: The No. 22 Bulldogs lost in Division 2.

Plymouth North 3, Oliver Ames 2: The No. 14 Blue Eagles will play at No. 3 Duxbury on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in a Division 2 Round of 16 game.

Duxbury 5, Somerset Berkley 0: The No. 3 Dragons swept the No. 30 seed.

Dartmouth 3, Milton 2: No. 18 Milton fell to the No. 15 seed in Division 2's Round of 32.

Nantucket 4, Norwell 1: The No 20 Clippers lost to the No. 13 seed in the Division 4 Round of 43.

Rockland/East Bridgewater 3, Bourne 2: Junior Petr Quinn helped swing the match by winning a deciding point at second singles via an ace (2-6, 6-4, 6-2). Adam Beatrice (first) and Nick Mesheau (third) also won singles matches. No. 12 Rockland/EB heads to No. 5 Monomoy on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for a Division 4 Round of 16 match.

West Bridgewater 3, Case 2: Graham Russo (first singles), Tommy Sheedy (second singles) and Chase Ryan (third singles) all earned points for the No. 7 Wildcats. WB will host No. 10 Lee in the Division 4 Round of 16 on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

GIRLS TENNIS

Duxbury 3, Holliston 2: The No. 3 Dragons survived an upset scare from the No. 30 seed and will host No. 14 Bishop Stang in the Division 2 Round of 16.

Boston Latin 5, Marshfield 0: The No. 27 Rams lost to the No. 6 seed in Division 1 Round of 32 action.

Westford Academy 5, Braintree 0: The Wamps were eliminated in Division 1 action.

Hingham 5, King Philip 0: The No. 8 Harborwomen advance to host No. 9 Acton-Boxboro in the Division 1 Round of 16 on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Mathilde Megard (first), Katelyn Erikson (second) and Brooke Flynn (third) swept the singles matches. Maggie O'Keefe/Susie Anderson and Renee Martel/Sanya Khadivi won the doubles matches.

Winchester 5, Bridgewater-Raynham 0: The No. 28 Trojans were eliminated by the No. 5 seed in Division 1.

Scituate 4, Northampton 1: The top-seeded Sailors will host No. 16 Ursuline Academy on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a Division 2 Round of 16 game.

Notre Dame Academy 5, Bishop Fenwick 0: The No. 8 Cougars will host No. 9 Plymouth North in the Division 2 Round of 16 on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Oliver Ames 3, Marblehead 2: OA's second doubles team of Marina Mierzinski/Kate McLaughlin picked up the deciding point, winning in the third set, 7-5. Mia Corradini won at first singles and Caroline Peper/Morgan Vasilou won at second doubles to remain undefeated on the season. No. 13 will head to No. 4 Masconomet in the Division 2 Round of 16 on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Longmeadow 5, Plymouth South 0: The No. 23 Panthers fell to the No. 10 seed.

Norwell 5, Apponequet 0: The No. 9 Clippers will play at No. 8 North Reading on Thursday at 4 p.m. in a Division 3 Round of 16 meeting.

Fairhaven 5, Cardinal Spellman 0: The No. 28 Cardinals were eliminated in Division 3 by the No. 5 seed.

Old Rochester Regional 5, Hanover 0: The No. 22 Hawks bowed out in the Division 3 Round of 32.

Pembroke 3, Watertown 2: The No. 14 Titans swept the singles matches (Ruth Dannison first, Emma Gerlach second, Amanda Considine third) to advance to the Division 3 Round of 16 on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at No. 3 Austin Prep.

Cohasset 4, Abington 1: No. 7 Cohasset advances to host No. 10 Lenox on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Division 4 Round of 16.

Westwood 5, Silver Lake 0: The No. 21 Lakers lost at the No. 12 Wolverines.

Melrose 3, Milton 2: The Wildcats finish with a 9-9 mark and qualified for the tournament for the first time in 10 years.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Marshfield 9, Wachusett 8 (OT): Maija Kastrud's overtime winner kept the Rams season alive in a Division 1 prelim. No. 29 Marshfield advances to play at No. 4 Wellesley on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Mystic Valley 9, Abington 8: The No. 34 Green Wave dropped a back-and-forth battle in a Division 4 prelim at No. 31 MV. Olivia Maguire scored 4 goals in the loss.

BOYS LACROSSE

Bishop Fenwick 15, Southeastern 0: The No. 37 Hawks dropped the Division 3 prelim.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

St. John's Prep 3, Brockton 0: The No. 14 Boxers were swept by the No. 3 seed in Division 1 play.
