High school varsity sports roundup (Jan. 25)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Girls basketball

Meade 72, Arundel 39: Ayanni Brown exploded for 25 points, Avani Burton had 13 and Carlissa Hill posted 12 points as the Mustangs handled the Wildcats. Heather Middleton led Arundel’s charge with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

South River 33, Chesapeake 24: Ryleigh Adams accounted for 11points, 10 rebounds and five steals, while Alaina Goodwin pitched in seven points as the Seahawks defeated the Cougars in a defensive battle.

Severna Park  37, North County 36: Theresa Braagg had nine points and 10 rebounds and Sarah Smith had seven points and nine rebounds to lead the Falcons (6-4) past the host Knights.

Century 41, Winters Mill 23: Century worked its way to an 11-point halftime lead and carried that to a win. Eva Brandt posted a double-double for the Knights (11-1) with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Mia Graff led the scoring for Century with 14 points.

Towson 62, Kenwood 31

Boys basketball

Severna Park 63, North County 33: Anthony Bocchetta erupted for 31 points and Gus Bachmann contributed 13 points as the Falcons (10-2, 7-2) defeated the Knights. Xavier Springer netted 10 points and Jeremy Scanlon added six points for North County. Bocchetta scored 19 points, while Declan Fox and Colton Adams each netted 11 points as the Falcons defeated Old Mill, 67-52, Monday night. Jordan Penn delivered 14 points, Jordan Miller had 12 points and Ryan Stacy pitched in 10 points for Old Mill.

South River 68, Chesapeake 33: Cash Herndon led a balanced Seahawks effort with 15 points, while Blake Burrows added 13 points in the win over the Cougars. James Crimaudo chipped in 11points for South River. The Cougars were led by Luca Genovese and Mitch Collier with nine points each. Darious Gary added eight points.

Annapolis 60, Glen Burnie 41: Kamari Taylor scored 18 points and Tyson Toton provided 12 points as the Panthers defeated the Gophers. Greg Pittman scored 13 points and Jordan Canoles had 10 points for Glen Burnie.

Meade 62, Arundel 58: The visiting Mustangs went on a 23-9 run over the Wildcats to win.  Arundel was led by Karris Scott (19 points) and Messiah Anderson (12 points).

Southern 48, Chesapeake Science Point 43: Larry Bulluck led the Bulldogs with 19 points and five steals in the win over the Tigers. Batemi Ogunbile and Shavon Lawson each had 10 points for Chesapeake Science Point. On Monday, Bulluck had 18 points, seven rebounds and two steals, Chris Thomas netted 10 points and Joell Simmons grabbed six steals as Southern defeated Lackey, 44-41.

C. Milton Wright 84, Joppatowne 56: The Mustangs (10-5, 7-1) defeated the visiting Mariners (4-4, 2-3) in an Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Chesapeake Division game. Jordan Stiemke scored 27 points and added three assists and five steals to lead CMW. Jordan Tuttle scored 15 points, while Rocco Polesovsky (seven rebounds) and Dylan Sander netted 12 points each. Favor Okigweh led Joppatowne with 17 points. Daniel Webb scored 12 and Kenneth Hunter added 10. CMW led 34-23 at halftime.

Havre de Grace 73, Bel Air 59: The Warriors (9-3, 5-3) beat the visiting Bobcats (3-10, 0-7) in Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Chesapeake Division play. Four Warriors scored in double figures, led by Will Lawder’s 18 points. Also, Dominik McKenney-George had 15 points and five steals; Braydyn Malloy added 14 points; and Quintin Daniels had 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Aberdeen 87, Harford Tech 61: The Eagles (10-3, 7-1) knocked off the host Cobras (4-11, 2-6) in an Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Chesapeake Division game. Aberdeen led 45-27 at half. Junior Tylan Bass led the winners with 27 points, four rebounds and four assists. Kanye Stephens added 11 points and Artarus Brown had 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
