Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Thursday, Jan. 27.
Girls basketball
Francis Scott Key 53, Century 45: The Eagles battled back from a 14-point halftime deficit, outscoring Century 25-11 in the second half to force overtime. Some layups from Ally Mathias and a 3-pointer from Summer Brooks in the extra session helped FSK complete the comeback for the road win, the fifth straight for FSK. Mathias finished with 21 points and three rebounds, Brooks added 14 points, three rebounds and three steals. Abby Rieger had nine points for FSK, while Drew Watkins grabbed 11 rebounds to go with six points and three assists. For Century (11-2), Eva Brandt led with 14 points, Mia Graff chipped in 12 and Erin Mellendick added nine.
South Carroll 49, Smithsburg 29: Freshman Leah Miller had a game-high 16 points, while junior Shannon McTavish had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavs (4-10). Junior Kylie Malone chipped in nine points for South Carroll. The Cavs jumped out to a 16-point lead at halftime and cruised to victory.
Havre de Grace 43, Edgewood 24: Senior Kaedence Bryant dominated with 21 points to lead the Warriors (6-6, 5-3) past the host Rams (8-6, 6-3) in Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Susquehanna Division play.
Harford Tech 33, Aberdeen 22: The Cobras (10-3, 4-2) beat the host Eagles (1-12, 0-7) in Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Chesapeake Division play. Anyia Gibson had a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds to lead Tech. She also had two steals and five blocks. Jordan Strang had a career-high 15 rebounds and four points.
C. Milton Wright 50, Patterson Mill 42: The Mustangs (8-4, 5-2) led early and never trailed in the road win over the Huskies (10-4, 6-2) in Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Chesapeake Division play. In the loss, Madison Knight scored 17 points and Kiley Wilhelm added 12 points.
Fallston 51, Bo Manor 23: The Cougars (11-3, 8-0) won for the seventh straight time, beating the visiting Eagles (7-6, 1-6) in an Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Chesapeake Division game. The Cougars were led by Julia Skinner’s 17 points. Jillian Crawford added 11 points and six assists. Emily Solomon also scored 11 points.
Mercy 65, St Mary’s 40: Toronto Williams scored 14 points and Baily Walden added 13, but it was not enough as the Saints (8-7) fell to undefeated Mercy.
Boys basketball
Baltimore City College 68, Meade 59: The Mustangs lost for the first time in 11 games. City jumped out to a 27-10 lead after a quarter. Meade (11-2) cut the deficit to seven at halftime, but City surged again in the third quarter. Junior Xavion Roberson led all scorers with 22 points to go with six rebounds. Senior Andre Campbell chipped in with 17 points while dishing out five assists.
Wrestling
Reservoir 48, Centennial 32: The Gators started out strong winning the opening four bouts, two by forfeit and two pins from Sam Vissers (120 pounds) and Sebastian Meza (126). However, the Eagles bounced back with six consecutive victories of their own. That was highlighted by pins from Nick Shapiro (145), Noah Whipkey (160), Aiden Bellamy (170) and a major decision by Zach Bellamy (152). Trailing 32-30, Dylan Wiegert (182) brought Reservoir back as it won the final four bouts, three of which came by forfeit.
Manchester Valley 72, St. James 12; Manchester Valley 66, Mt. Ridge 18: The Mavericks picked up two wins in the tri-meet. Travis Green (145) and Jake Boog (160) each earned two pins on the night. Connor Ryan (170) and Cru Boog (195) each scored one pin and one win via forfeit. Camdyn Yowell (132) and Blake Ray (152) also each picked up a win via pin.
Chesapeake 45, Northern 24: Northern scored pins in the three of the four lightest weight classes, but Chesapeake only dropped one bout the rest of the way. Chase Listorti (145), Colin Lewis (160), Dylan Lewis (170), Hunter Beck (220) and Delmar White (285) earned pins for Chesapeake.
Broadneck 51, Arundel 27: Arundel took four of the seven contested bouts, but a number of forfeits gave the dual to Broadneck.
