HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Lady Eagles open season with win; Central, Berea and Model fall

Madison Southern opened the 2022 season with a hard-fought, five-set victory over East Jessamine in Berea.

The Lady Eagles (1-0) won by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-14, 17-25 and 15-12.

Julia Bingham had 19 kills, eight digs, four blocks and three aces. Bre Dawes finished with 22 digs and two aces. Reagan Burns had 14 assists, seven digs and one ace.

Jordyn Walker had 13 assists and 11 digs. Abby McMullins had 10 digs and three aces.

Katelyn Bolin had nine digs. Abby Dees finished with two kills, two aces and two blocks. Addy Spaulding had two kills and three digs. Campbelle Price had two digs and Amber Short finished with one kill.

Southern is set to return to action next Tuesday at home against Boyle County.

Douglass tops Central

The Lady Indians dropped their season opener, 3-0, on Tuesday in Lexington to Frederick Douglass.

Central fell by scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 27-25.

The Lady Indians are set to return to action Monday at home against Berea Community.

Lady Patriots fall

Model Laboratory suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Trinity Christian in the season opener for both teams.

The Lady Titans won by scores of 25-3, 25-6 and 25-8.

On Wednesday, the Lady Patriots were handed a 3-0 loss at home by Lexington Christian Academy.

The Lady Eagles won by scores of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-7.

Model is set to return to action Aug. 25 in Richmond against Danville Christian.

Lady Pirates lose

Berea Community opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Lincoln County on Tuesday in Stanford.

The Lady Pirates fell by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-13.

Berea is set to return to action today at Menifee County.
