High school worker hospitalized breaking up fight, Texas district says. Student charged

A high school student faces felony charges after injuring a faculty member who was trying to break up a fight, a Texas district says.

The incident happened Wednesday, May 3, at Klein Oak High School in Klein, a suburb of Houston. Klein Independent School District said the worker was assaulted by the student when intervening in a fight.

“The coach was running to break up a fight between two students when another student stepped in front of him in an attempt to stop the coach, causing him to fall backward and hit his head,” district officials told KHOU.

School district officials said the worker was hospitalized after sustaining “bodily injury.” The faculty member’s current condition is unknown.

The student, according to the school district, was expelled. The student also faces unspecified felony charges.

“Additional charges may be pursued as the investigation continues,” the district said. “We have zero tolerance for this inexcusable behavior.”

Klein is about 30 miles northwest of Houston.
