HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Indians open season with first place finish at Tomahawk Duals

Dec. 4—Nathan Hutchinson

The Madison Central wrestling team opened the 2022-2023 season with a championship performance on Saturday at the Tomahawk Duals in Richmond.

The Indians were undefeated in the 10-team event.

Madison Central defeated West Carter, 66-6, Green Co., 63-12, North Hardin, 48-24 and Bullitt East, 66-12, then beat Bullitt Central, 53-24 in the championship round to claim the title.

"It was a good start to the season," Central coach Chad Fyffe said. "We got a lot of mat time in. We are a young team. So, the more time and experience we can get in, the better."

Six Central wrestlers won all their matches on Saturday — Diego Pelletier (285), Gavyn Kinley (106), Logan Cantrell, Robert Nardelli, Sam Mullins (175) and Eli Fataua (190).

In the championship match-up with Bullitt Central, Pelletier, Kinley, Keenan Clevenger, Cantrell, Nardelli, Chance Mills, Lucas Hutchinson, Mullins and Fataua each picked up victories.

Central is set to return to action Saturday at the Ryle Raider Rumble.
